Eden snorted, laughing. “Why the fuck would she wanna do that? What have you done?” She tilted her head, amused. “I gotta say, it would be a pretty fuckin’ place to die. So much beauty, scenery. Maybe she’ll push you off one of the nice ass cliffs and you can wave at a moose while you fly past.”
“I don’t know. She could secretly have been a it man this whole time. or well, hit woman. That’d be kind of hot, if yanno she wasn’t trying to kill me.” Vi let out a laugh and looked at her friend. “Now that would be one hell of a story that I would never get to tell. Maybe the moose would save me. You never know. Crazier things have happened. Would you come to my Alaskan funeral?”

V: Ugh even he's starting to annoy me.
V: Tonight. Please. I'll be home early. We can get dinner.

“Parents liked their pompous sounding names…I know, I know I’m not going to die but I can feel my broken bones…it’s so freaky…might I get to know your name?”
“Viola, I’m Viola” she said as she got to her feet and waited for the paramedics to help him into the ambulance. She lifted herself into the truck behind him and instinctively reached for his hand. “Is there someone I should be calling to meet you at the hospital?”
“Denali? I think that’s a place,” Eden said, chewing. She didn’t know a lot of people in Lanford, and really that had been by choice, but she was grateful for Viola and Kate and the attention they gave her, and in a weird way admired their relationship, even if she knew she would never have that with anyone. Not that she wanted it. “It’s a huge ass national park and it’s supposed to be really pretty. Although I’ve heard of murders there, too, so bring a gun if you go,” she said almost nonchalantly.
Viola let out a loud laugh and shook her head. Every time she and Eden talked she became less and less surprised with some of the things that came out of her mouth. She enjoyed it, though. Vi was grateful to have met someone like Eden and even more grateful that she was someone Kate and Viola knew mutually. It was always a breath of fresh of air when neither of them had to hide. “That makes me feel so reassured, thank you. Maybe Kate is bringing me there to kill me. How exciting would that be?”
I don’t know, Lancaster, I don’t lose either.

“What a name. Know, you know you’re not going to die. Look at that, the ambulance is coming. Stay with me, big guy.”
“Yeah, the taco place,” she said, pointing down the street. “I asked if they wanted some kind of sign, or ad, or anything like that but they just said draw something colorful and go wild,” she said with a shrug. “Plus it’s $100 more than I had yesterday, so.” But Eden didn’t do it for the money. She had enough money coming in from her job, sometimes more than she knew what to do with (drugs, that’s what she would’ve spent it on in the past, but she couldn’t do that anymore). She leaned against the ladder, placing the bag in her lap and digging out some fries, eating. “How’re you? How’s Kate?” she asked, directing the focus of the conversation to Vi.
“$100 dollars is never a bad thing,” Vi commented with a laugh as she looked around and smiled at the half completed painting. She was always in awe of the work that Eden could do and was happy to get any sort of chance to witness her in the process. “Me? Oh you know, busy, crazy, trying to take on the world every second. So the usual.” Viola ran a hand through her hair and sighed as she shifted her footing. “She’s fine. We’re fine. We’re going to Alaska soon, actually. Last time I let her book a trip. Is there even anything to do in Alaska?”
That sounds like bullshit, Vi.

“Burgers, fries, and a shake? Well slap me and call me Aunt Sally,” Eden said, her fake enthusiasm cutting through her voice. She finished up the next coat of paint she had been working on, and put the brush down, climbing down the ladder. “Suppose a ten minute break wouldn’t hurt,” she said, wiping her hands on her paint stained shirt. “Gracias.”
Vi rolled her eyes and laughed as she held out the bag and waited for Eden to grab it. “De nada. Now was that so hard?” Vi pushed off the wall and stood upright as she looked at the piece that Eden had been working on. “It looks good. Who’s it for? The restaurant?”
