Hey friends I need advice again! I received an offer for an internship/full time temp job for the summer in Portland that pays and will provide great experience. I’m really worried that this may push back my graduation date, but I also think I could reframe my thesis such that the internship adds to it. What do y'all think? I would love to hear other folks’ opinions!

Hi there y’all! I know that I am actually welcoming myself back to the studyblr + gradblr spheres, but I thought I might create an about me post for my new followers (s/o to y’all that still started following even during my leave of absence!)

Education: First year MA student in Public History, with a focus on historic preservation
Thesis topic: How collective memory of racial and ethnic groups is often ignored by written narratives by people in power, such as town governments or other governing bodies. I have a special interest in the ways urban renewal projects displaced those racial and ethnic groups and how preservation projects can help to preserve not only the historic integrity of a neighborhood, but also the cultural integrity as well.
Goals: I’d like to continue my graduate education by getting my PhD in American Studies. After that, I would like to either teach Public History at the graduate level or open up a preservation non-profit.
Five little facts: 1. I have a chihuahua named Gomez Addams; 2. My favorite tea is peppermint; 3. I drink 6-8 cups of coffee a day on average; 4. My favorite author is Joan Didion; 5. I am only 22 and already wear reader glasses like a granny!
Talk to me! I love chatting with people who are interested in a history, public history, or historic preservation graduate degree! I had the opportunity to work for three people that attended the school I am at now and I want to pay it forward. I would also love to chat with folks that are currently getting their PhDs in history or American Studies so I can get an idea of the process.

Today I cold-emailed the center I really want to intern for this summer. They don't actually have formal internships so I took a big risk emailing the executive director a letter of interest and resume. Considering I have to complete 300 hours this summer for my program, I'm super nervous. Could y'all please send up positive vibes, good juju, and prayers for me? It snowed last night and I was hoping school would be canceled but it wasn’t that much snow ❄️I’m feeling really lazy today which isn’t good because I have a report to write and some things to do for my dissertation! Feat. my planner from last week.
