A swear jar for health & fitness - you save based on the way you behave.  VICEJAR is a savings and lifestyle tracking tool that has taken the concept of a traditional swear jar and digitized it with real cash.  Using cash as a motivator, people are more likely to change their behavior.

Current users of the app have successfully used it to run more, get fit, quit smoking, and drink less.  We also enable users to create their own “CustomJars” such as shopping, swearing, chores, drugs, junk food, studying, etc.

The silvering process involves several steps.  We wanted to tinnning then 3 different silvering solutions.  Spray painting a jar would have been lame.   There was several ideas behind this jar.  One was behavioral, a way to reflect, victory.  The other was to re-think the idea of a trophy.  The third was to bring about a challenge and inspire people to participate in events.  http://planetultra.com/portfolio/king-of-the-mountains/

Designs

We went through hundreds of designs: fun, goofy, playful, wait those are all synonyms.  We came to the conclusion of safe, secure, vintage feel logo.  As the idea formed, many friends and family loved the idea for it’s nostalgia: putting coins in a swear jar to change behavior.  Everybody has a vice, a bad habit that they wanted to curb.  The spacing and the caps give the logo a secure box-like view, font telegraphico.  We opted for this feel as opposed to this version which everyone seems to spell out: ViceJar.  I like to correct them by re-typing V I C E J A R, people don’t typically like caps cause it feels like you’re yelling at them but not this one since it’s spaced out.

One direction which was totally different was the art brush medium font.  This font was too playful but the idea VICEJAR was to gamify savings, health, and fitness so we squeezed the art brush in last minute.
