Rocky's feats of engineering
Project Hail Mary (2026) dir. Phil Lord, Chris Miller
(insp.)
Iron Lung is great bc it asks the question what if the sacrificial lamb was evil. What if the lamb thought itself evil. What if everyone else thought the lamb evil. What if the lamb wasn't evil what if the lamb is just a lamb, bleeting desperately to escape its undue sacrifice. What if the lamb knew it was a sacrifice from the start. What if the lamb just wanted to live. What if the lamb wanted to live so fucking bad. What if the lamb wanted the flock to live more. What if the lamb accepts its own sacrifice, leans into the glinting knife, in the hopes that the flock survives.
Simon "the butcher", who is horrified when he finds out he sentenced a man to death by pressing the camera button.
Simon "the butcher" who keeps apologizing for not knowing better, for causing harm to the people in the room, for being rightfully angry and lashing out, turning every knob and lever and pressing that damn button because why would it work when he doesn't have any power and why didn't they just Tell Him??
Simon "the butcher" who gets teary and has the look of a hurt child on his face when ava mentions filament station and his voice trembles when he is quick to say "that wasn't supposed to happen"...
Simon "the butcher" who apologizes to the sm-13, an inanimate object, after hitting the console.
Just... Simon being so unbeliebably human throughout the whole movie, it makes my heart ache for him
Something something the religious imagery in phm with the whole "hail Mary, full of grace" sacrificial lamb something something
something something Eva Stratt being named after the first woman, the first scapegoat, the reason the garden died (paving the Sahara, nuking Antarctica) while simultaneously being the reason any of them are alive
Idk
Mentally making a cup of tea and giving a gentle forehead kiss to every struggling writer on my dash right now.
Your story matters, your ideas are good, and someone out there is going to fall in love with your world.
America has a weird relationship with cults where they’re terrified of small cults (or organizations they think are cults) but completely normalized massive cults that hurt many more people (eg: LDS Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Amish, Scientology, most Megachurches)
To anybody asking if the Amish are a cult, the answer is yes, very much so.
They’re a high control group that isolate you from society. The cult decides how you dress, how you behave, who you marry and how. They control what you know, blocking all information from the outside world. They control how you feel and what you’re allowed to think with threats of both social and supernatural harm. They’re a cult.
The best method to determine if a group is a cult, in my opinion, is Steven Hassan’s (cult expert and former cult member himself) BITE model.
BITE stands for Behavior Control, Information Control, Thought Control, and Emotional Control.
The more points a group “scores” on the model, the more of a cult it is.
I think this model is the best one for several reasons:
It’s more nuanced than “cult” or “not cult” and doesn’t make false equivalences between groups
It’s versatile, applying to groups big and small, and cults of all kinds, religious, political, financial, etc.
It focuses on what’s important, which is what the cult does to its members, and those members’ experiences, and not on irrelevant details like how uncommon their doctrines are or whether they have a charismatic leader
This is a great example of Thought Control used by cults whenever they’re confronted with criticism.
#you might notice that there are a lot of similarities between cult techniques and those of abusive partners#and that is an important thing to be aware of
yah that goes in the post
The creator of the BITE Model considers abusive relationships to be two-person cults.
It’s important to note that almost every sect of evangelical christianity in the US today fails the BITE Model.
This was the post that lead to breaking my JW mindset. Been a while since I seen it.
I’m glad I could help in your deconstruction, if only a little bit. I wish you all the luck in your journey moving forward.
It’s tricky with parenting, because parents have to control their children’s lives to start with, since newborns are incapable of taking care of themselves.
A healthy parent will gradually relinquish control as their child grows and becomes more capable. And even while they’re in charge, they will treat their child with honesty and transparency and respect. They’ll prepare their child for independence, giving them the tools they need to live their own life.
A culty, abusive parent will go far beyond the level of control that their role requires. They will use manipulation and undue influence, taking advantage of their child’s naivete and malleable mind for the parent’s own benefit and agenda. They will continue to exercise this control well into their child’s adulthood, possibly their whole life.
I’d like to think that Rocky can crack every one of his “bones” super loud since he’s made of rock and it scares the fuck out of Grace. Rocky starts doing it more just to get a reaction out of him.
(Grace cracks his back once in retaliation and freaks Rocky out because why can you do that your body is soft and leaky nothing should be making those noises)
it's midnight and I'm practically in tears at the thought of rocky becoming sort of a patron saint of safety in the dark back on earth
Weighted plushies of Rocky being made. Parents giving them to their children, telling them "It's okay! Rocky's here to watch over you. He'll make sure to keep you safe."
Wdym you hate Stratt? Without her you don’t get a story
Omg I love this piece. Grace the hanging man, content with his life but cannot avoid the changes coming; the ship his noose, the rope that binds him to his fate; the blood red stars beside him, Olesya and Yáo the angels haunting him in the background. Eva Stratt, the one who holds it all on her back, the world is literally on her shoulders, the Petrova line on her neck. She will not falter, cannot afford to move, and yet still she glares at us. Eva challenges us, daring us to ask if we could do better, if we could hold her burden for even a fraction of the time.
Eve, the mother of sin, who held the world in her hands and was cursed for not knowing.
Eva, director of the task force, who now holds the world, and still must curse man to save it.
In the end, it always falls on a woman. I could never hate you Eva Stratt
i love the project hail mary fandom because everyone is on board with the delusion. ryland has a twin thats just ryan gosling from another movie? sure. markiplier is here too? why not. plot twist, they're actually triplets and there's a third brother who works for the cia who, again, is just ryan gosling from another movie? absolutely spectacular.
Rocky holding up Grace: Leaky.
Adrian: No, don’t be mean.
Rocky gently swaying Grace: Leaky space blob.
Adrian: No!
Grace grinning as Rocky sways them in the air: Very leaky, squishy blob.
Adrian, warbling: Noooo!
you are my solution
No no no no no okay so I know I already reblogged this, I know! But I just saw it again and realized.
She's gagged. I saw that she was bound I saw that she was praying, but she is bound and gagged and praying and Grace has turned his back on her.
This man who was her second in command.
This man who stood up to the most powerful woman in the world and demanded to help her save it for the sake of his kids.
This man who she probably hoped would find that desperate need to fix this a second time when she asked him to die.
And then he doesn't. He can't. He's afraid. And she has to send him to his death anyway because she has no other choice. Because she is desperate to save the world.
the urge to write is like a cat meowing for dear life for someone to open the goddamn door, who then shows utter disinterest in said open door
One thing that I've noticed and appreciate about the PHM fandom is how much Grace gets passed around like a blunt.
That man is every color of the rainbow.
The man gets taken out of his fandom just to be passed around like a blunt in other fandoms.
He is the most aroace and pansexual agender man I have ever seen.
So far the running list that I've seen:
Rocky
Simon
Adrian
Carl
Rocky and Adrian
Stratt
Dubois and Shapiro (do not separate them, they come as a pair)
Ilyukhina
Yáo
Dimitri
Dr. Lokken
Tom Ryder
Driver from Drive (2011)???
Engineer Mark from In Space With Markiplier?
Din Djarin????????
Rocky again, but instead he looks like James Ortiz (i love seeing this one actually lol) (it's also good if human!Adrian looks like Meryl Streep)
More Markiplier????
Mark Watney
The 9th Doctor???
The 10th Doctor???
The 12th Doctor as well???
Like, let the man breathe 😭😭😭 he's practically just stumbling around, dazed, with a crazy amount of comical lipstick marks covering his face at this point lol
Edit: I've been told to add Tony Stark to the list. I don't know how this man got here, and I hate that I can see it
Edit 2: apparently I should also add Superman to this list??? Where are you all getting these ideas from??? (But, please, continue. I like wherever your crazy little brain's at)
Edit 3: okay, yeah, I guess Armando's on this list now. Didn't know that this guy was that freaky. (Also, apparently I need to add the three Captain Americas (Steve, John, Sam) which is kind crazy ngl. Where are all getting all these ideas from??? Please continue making Grace the fandom blunt, this is entertaining)
Edit 4: Odysseus. I don't have anything else to say bc I'm just... In shock
Edit 5: Shiro. From Voltron. How do you guys even come up with this stuff???
Edit 6: Robert Robertson III
The one where Grace can't help falling head over heels for the owner of the plant shop he booked a field trip with, but the skeletons in Simon's past are coming back to haunt him.
Chapter 1: Meet-Cutes, Milkshakes, & Motorcycles
“-are you fucking kidding me? Those little gremlins you’re so eager to bring in would tear my shop apart! Don’t even get me started on the insurance. How am I going to explain it to them? And I’d be- no, the plants would be stressed! You’ve gotta be the biggest fucking -”
Click.
I took no small satisfaction in hanging up, and marked a small red x next to Juniper Jungle Florist & Nursery with my favorite grading pen. It could join Pride & Peonies Floral Gardens, The Green Thumb, and a bunch other cheerfully named plant stores in the long list of firm no’s I’d received. While most of them had been more polite than Mark of Juniper Jungle, absolutely none of the nine shops I called had been thrilled with the idea of thirty rambunctious middle school students wreaking havoc in their place of business.
I sighed.
They were good kids, but middle schoolers had a reputation. Too old to be cute enough to coo over, and too young to know how to operate in a society. I deliberately chose to teach their age range because some part of me still understood what it was like to not-quite-fit where people wanted me to, and I wanted to give them a place they felt they belonged.
I was three from the bottom of the list, down into the dregs of what I could find for places with names that felt child-friendly and were within an hour drive of the school. I could make it through three more before I gave up on the field trip idea. Next up was The Last Tree. I punched in the number and let it ring.
Once.
Twice.
Three times, before a gruff voice answered. “This is Simon.”
Holy snowballs.
Three simple words and I nearly forgot my entire reason for calling. I was pretty sure I could listen to that voice narrate absolutely anything. It was rich and smooth with just a hint of a growl that sent a shiver down my spine.
“Hello?” He prompted.
