Lena’s eyes opened when that sweet smell hit her. She sniffed the air and lifted her head off the mattress to look behind her at.. Mary? Marie. “Are you smoking my pot?”
Marie gave a smile with a look of ease that only marijuana could provide, “Yup.” before she coughed but tried to look… Lena wasn’t sure. Was that her version of sexy or cool? Dear God.. it was.
She started to sit up and saw the other woman fumbling with the joint as she blew out a puff of smoke. Lena wanted to offer help but she made herself stay seated on the bed. She wasn’t taking any charity cases right now. And this one… she shouldn’t have brought her back to her room. Marie had been so.. clumsy in her flirting. She’d definitely had liquid courage flowing strong but there was something endearing about her. A fragile beauty.
"Was this your first time…?" she trailed off with a slight assessing raise of her brows.
Marie swallowed, “Being with a woman?”
Lena’s eyes rested on the gold band on Marie’s finger, it hadn’t been there the night before. But truth be told, it wouldn’t have changed a thing. , “…cheating on your husband.”
Marie followed her line of sight with an, “Oh.” she put down the joint and fiddled with the ring. Her bravado, which hadn’t been much but Lena didn’t want to shatter Marie’s illusion, fell. “It’s kinda a first for both..” she twisted the ring around on her finger, mumbling, “Sorry, I feel naked without it..”
Lena could see cracks crawling along Marie’s composure and sighed, pushing herself up off the bed, “Don’t. Don’t, don’t, don’t.” she said as she quickly padded barefoot over to the ugly hotel bedroom couch.
"What? I—" Marie started, excuses ready for how strong she was and how she could handle this, how she was a different person from who she was. But Lena sat down next to her, picked up the joint and put it to Marie’s lips, "Inhale."
Marie took a moment but then inhaled the smoke. Lena said, “Hold it in.” and while Marie did that, Lena leaned back and put one foot up on the couch, her knee bent in front of her chest. She took a hit herself and blew the smoke out the side of her lips, “Now let it out.”
Marie coughed as she opened her mouth and let it pour out.
Lena narrowed her eyes, “No, let it all out.”
Marie looked confused and Lena leaned forward, her eyes on hers, “Who’s Georgia?”
When Marie’s face fell, Lena inwardly thought ‘Fuck Me’.. but looking at Marie, who finally was starting to show her true nature, Lena couldn’t help it. They’d had one night as strangers, maybe one morning as real people wouldn’t hurt..
For a moment Marie contemplated shutting her mouth (which had fallen wordlessly open), gathering her things, and rushing out in a flood of excuses, and maybe it was the pot making her head spin unnaturally, or the memories of rushed intimacy that wasn't really all that intimate, but she wanted to tell her. She had no one else to talk to...
"My best friend," she answered obliquely. Wanting to talk wasn't the same as actually having the courage to open up. "She's... I haven't seen her for a while." With a dry swallow, she tempestuously plucked the joint from Lena's hand and took another long drag, holding it in as instructed for a long moment, feeling a little woozy before she let it out, barely coughing this time. "She just got married," she continued, passing the joint back. "She moved away."
And then suddenly her knees were pulled up to her chest, ankles crossed, and her head is in her hands, fingers combed through her hair. "I just... I feel so alone without her. My husband... I love him, he loves me, but..." It was like her mind was trying to protect itself from her and refused to finish the thought. She took a deep breath, feeling like she was slipping away.
"And then you... actually, you're nothing like her. But... you are? I just..." A hand clumsily reached out and on the third try, managed to trap Lena's. "I've got no one to talk to. I feel... It's just so empty." Her thumb ran over Lena's knuckles, a comforting gesture for the one of them that needed no comfort.
It hadn't occurred to her before why Lena was even bothering to ask. Not that she'd ever had a one night stand before, but she was fairly sure that emotional distance went part and parcel with the deal. Biting her lip, she snuck a sheepish glance at the other woman... and was caught almost immediately. With a resigned sigh, she rested her cheek against her knee and laced her fingers comfortably with Lena's and stopped questioning. If she was offering comfort, Marie would take all she could get.
It was definitely the pot, she decided, when memories of last night flooded back to her, but instead of Lena, it was Georgia who touched her, kissed her palms and eyelids and thighs. Georgia's lips that whispered to her and her fingers that pushed deep inside until Marie was groaning and grasping and crying. She imagined Georgia's eyes, mossy green, looking back at her when she smiled and soft, pink lips kissing hers. It was troubling only because she'd never consciously thought of her best friend that way before. Georgia was special and so important to her, but touching her had never entered into the equation. Until now. But even as she thought it, somewhere she knew that wasn't entirely true.
"I think I might love her."
That she said it without hesitating at the word made her smile.

Marie and Jackson were supposed to go on a vacation and she was looking forward to it cause Georgia is busy marrying Nolan and Marie is having feels about it but the day they are supposed to go, the kids are packed off to whoever sits for them, but jackson gets called away at the last second but marie cannot stay by herself at home and she needs jackson right now cause she doesnt want to think about georgia and nolan but jackson is like I cant right now babe and she just goes on the vacation herself (which isnt a real vacation, its a bad hotel a few hours away most likely) and yeah
"I was wondering when you'd wake up,"
Lena sat up, confused and still in yesterday's makeup. Marie's smile was wicked as she brought the cigarette to her lips.
"Not exactly how I imagined our first magic lesson," she confessed with a low chuckle, head tilted back as she blew out the smoke. "But I can tell you'll make a fine student." The younger witch refused to meet Marie's eyes and kept herself modestly covered with the crisp white hotel sheet.
"You take direction very well, dear."
With cheeks colored pink with memories from the night before, Lena finally turned shyly to her teacher, eyes making tentative contact. Marie smiled softer then, reassuring her. Lena smiled back.
There was so much about the younger woman that reminded Marie of herself that it hurt until she fucked her. That it was not how she'd imagined the evening going was a bald lie -- she had planned on this. She knew Lena because she knew herself; knew what buttons to press, which strings to pluck, until she was helpless and in her arms and then underneath her.
Lena's husband never had to know.
That had been Marie's first mistake.
"Who's Georgia?"
"What?"
The question was asked innocently enough, but Marie was entirely unprepared for it. To hear her name spoken so casually. From a girl she'd fucked until she screamed her name (Marie! Marie!) so loud the couple in the neighboring room complained. Her response was unfair and the girl (in truth, she was long past girlhood, but to Marie everyone less world-weary than she was somehow still a child) recoiled, but Marie did little to sooth her, even if she was sorry.
"You... called me Georgia last night. I'm sorry, I just wondered who she was." Here she paused and tilted her head, growing bolder. "Someone special?"
Marie was quiet, the cigarette back at her lips. "Someone I knew." The smoke curled in her lungs, burning and calming and familiar, until she couldn't hold it in any longer and exhaled. "Someone from a long time ago."
