There were so many great scenes in this issue. I love seeing them have a great night-out together from time to time! Just a simple threat and some entertainment. You know, I think J might not even have to make a threat at all if the Bat would simply ask him out. Doesn’t that sound something like… a solution to the killing clown problem?

I like stories like this. It reminds me of the ‘date night’ story Tom King wrote in the main Batman title. I don’t need crossovers. Yes, I know that this issue is connected to he Year of the Villain but I enjoy one shots like this.

What I really hate about younger people in fandom asking older fangirls why they’re “still” in fandom is that it’s the outcome of a misogynistic lack of representation for older women to be seen as people who have fun and fuck off.We never ask dude fans the same question. We have all kinds of cultural narratives of dude’s fucking off, playing videogames well into their 40s. And even when these narratives aren’t 100% sympathetic (ie: the perpetual manchild), there’s always this sort of exasperation around it like, what can you do? Boys will be boys. But when women age into fandom, there’s a whole lotta confusion around her very existence. When a younger fan wants to know why I’m here, in this space, they seem genuinely confused and uncomfortable. Because what are our archetypes for older woman: wife, mother, cougar even. Not womanchild. Not fuckoff. Not fangirl. Men are allowed seemingly childish pursuits but women better get in the kitchen and start scrapbooking.

I feel that I have aged out of fandom because I desire more thoughtful commentary and a safe space to discuss ideas. The younger fandom seems to focus more on GIFs, memes and to police ideas. Don’t get me wrong, fandom can’t grow if there aren’t newbies to keep it going.

Endgame spoilers/opinions:

Captain marvel deserved more screen time, but I understand that this was the conclusion of the OG avengers therefore it’s forgiven.

Thor’s character development went to shit under the Russos direction. He just became a joke in this movie. They didn’t let him grieve over loki, DIDN’T EVEN MENTION HIS NAME. I feel like they took away what taika gave him in Ragnarok.

Black widow deserved a legit conclusion if this was the end of her story. At least a funeral!!! Even if her story is continuing in the black widow movie, she deserved closure.

The “first openly gay character” just being the director cameo with an unnamed character is NOT representation. Thorbruce and Stucky scenes in previous movies were 100000x gayer than that.

When I see people saying Steve Rogers deserved “one selfish act” it’s so clear they don’t understand the character at all because this would be Steve’s one selfish act.

If Steve Rogers decided to use time travel to fuck up the timeline, this is how he would use it. He wouldn’t insert himself into the life of a woman whose full life he celebrated and who he’s already mourned. He would go back and save the best and closest friend he’s ever had from seventy years of torture and brainwashing. He would risk it all — Howard not dying and Tony not becoming Iron Man and everything else removing the Winter Soldier from the timeline would entail — if it meant saving Bucky.

Saving Bucky would be Steve’s one selfish act. Saving Bucky has always been Steve’s one selfish act. The whole damn Cap trilogy is about it for god’s sake!

Yeah, Steve did deserve one selfish act, but it wasn’t the one they gave him. It was one that actually fit his character. It was one that resolved the story they wrote. It was the one he’d repeatedly shown he would actually do. It was the one that would have been both selfish and selfless.

It was saving Bucky Barnes.
