“I keep thinking about this river somewhere, with the water moving really fast. And these two people in the water, trying to hold onto each other, holding on as hard as they can, but in the end it’s just too much. The current’s too strong. They’ve got to let go, drift apart.”
— Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go
“In Georgia, this orange light is actually very present because the street lights are orange. I wanted the film to feel celebratory and warm and just loving, because of all the bad stuff that was happening. I never wanted [Merab] to ever question his sexuality, he just falls in love and he’s happy. Also, I never wanted him to get hurt or anything… You can feel that there is a tension and violence in the background, but I never wanted to have his character be part of that. So, the whole idea for me with the film, I wanted it to feel like a warm embrace. I don’t like when things get too dark, because I think it’s so dark in the world as it is.” — Levan Akin
AND THEN WE DANCED / და ჩვენ ვიცეკვეთ (2019)
“They want each other but they would never be intimate in that way, until [Irakli] sort of acknowledges what happened and that that’s okay with him. Which gets to the Robyn “Honey” scene when [Merab] does the dance and he’s comfortable in showing him that he really wants him, and that’s when they kiss the first time.”
— Levan Akin, writer and director of And Then We Danced (2019) on withholding the first kiss

Just looking at you smiling, just watching over you makes me feel at peace
I wonder… All these mornings you’ve been sitting in my study. Sitting. Have you had any moments of stillness? Because you’re right, Ruben. The world does keep moving, and it can be a damn cruel place. But for me, those moments of stillness, that place — that’s the kingdom of God. And that place will never abandon you.

Back then, I didn’t know that my choices would end up hurting me forever. I’ve never really been sick of living like this. Because I wasn’t interested even though it was my life.
“All I wanted tonight was a “thank you”, Malcolm. That is it. That’s all. “Thank you, Marie. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for making my life better, thank you for getting your life together. Thank you for watching a hundred cuts and reading a hundred fucking drafts. Thank you for your notes, your experience, your patience, your authen-fucking-ticity you bring to this film. Thank you. Thank you for being a drug addict. Thank you for being clean. Thank you for dumb shit, like buying toilet paper and milk and organizing the shit with the movers. Thank you. Thank you for doing the shit I don’t wanna think about. Thank you for making me coffee. Thank you for making me smile. Thank you for the good sex and the cuddles. Thank you for doing the laundry and picking out my suit tonight and making my ungrateful ass some mac and cheese after I forgot to fucking thank you. Thank you for the mistakes you’ve made…for the charm you bring, for the life you bring. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for getting over this, for moving forward, for being you. Thank you for all the shit I forgot to thank you for… and thank you for looking so goddamn sexy in that dress tonight. You make me look good. You make me a better person. Thank you for understanding that I’m not always great at expressing how I feel, and it comes out in my work more than in real life. Thank you because… I know it doesn’t always feel good, so I hope you can live with that. Thank you. I know I’m emotionally obtuse sometimes, but I’m grateful you don’t hold it against me. Thank you…for assuming the best. I love you Marie. I’ll always love you, my Marie. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.” “

I feel like once you know someone’s there for you, and once you know they love you, you never actually think of them again. It’s not until you’re about to lose someone, that you finally pay attention.
