Madeline normally studied in the common room alone, or in the greenhouses alongside her father while he graded papers or tests, but it was sometimes necessary for her to go to the library. This was one of those times. She needed a book for a transfiguration paper, but she had no idea where to start. Transfiguration had never been her best subject, but she liked it well enough to not mind searching through books.
Sheâd barely noticed Victoire before the other girl spoke, even though they were just across the aisle from one another. âThat sounds fascinating, but I canât read french,â said Madeline, turning around to face Victoire. âOr speak it, for that matter. Iâm afraid youâd have to translate the whole thing for me as I read it. Probably easier for the two of us if you just summarize it.â
Victoire nodded and leaned back against the bookcase, holding the book against her chest as she gave the other a smile. It was a shame more people did not know the French language. To her is was one of the most beautiful of languages, but she was most likely biased. Her mother made sure that she spent as much time in France as she did here.
âWell, if you ever have time it is a wonderful thing to learn.â She said with a smile, fingers running gently along the binding of the book. âWell, it is about the beautiful clothing from the Renaissance and French plays and everything that makes up the beautiful country.â
