“No, it’s fine. I can take a break. This isn’t actually one of my cases. Just something Malfoy wanted me to look over,” he lied easily, looking over at his cousin. “Everything okay?”

James leaned forward in the chair across Reese’s desk. “I think I’m close to doing something stupid and dramatic about all the attacks going on. I need someone to talk me out of it. Or talk me into it. I think I trust you enough where I would actually listen to you.”

“Not only Potters don’t want blood supremacist pricks running around on the loose and attacking people,” Marcie sighed and rested her hand on James’s shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. “All right, all right, Banksy, chill,” she chuckled, shaking her head upon hearing his idea. Not that she didn’t think he was right – something needed to be done, after all. “If you want a revolution, first you need to gather more people, Jamie,” she mused.

James groaned. A revolution. Is that really what he wanted? He wanted action to be taken, something big. But to put a title of a Revolution seemed... revolutionary. “Join me? I think it’s obvious I need some help. You know, someone to help me think of a plan. What do you think of all this going on?”

She nodded, “Yeah, my mum.” Jacqui smiled fondly. The girl got along with both her parents fairly well. They were a big part of the reason why she’d stayed in France while working in England. “Don’t worry, she just worries too much. I’m going to call her back later.”

“Gotcha.” James said while crossing his arms comfortably over his chest, “Anyway, I wanted to ask if you wanted to get some extra practice in. I think I want to work on some new techniques and it would be a whole lot less boring if I had someone there with me.”

“Man, shut up,” Levi said with a click of his tongue. If he was feeling any better and more balanced he would have reached over and shoved the other. “I don’t normally get hangovers, let me die in peace.”

James laughed at Levi’s obvious discomfort. “You must have drank a lot then. Was there a special occasion or something?” He stood up from the booth and turned back to Levi, “I’m going to get myself a drink, you want anything?”

To say Reese was buried under paperwork was an understatement. He didn’t even really look up from his desk when he heard someone walk in his office. “Give me like – two seconds to finish this up and I’ll be with you. Is it important?”

“I mean, I guess it can wait two seconds if you mean actual two seconds. Not like two minutes. Busy as usual, I’m guessing. I can come by later if you’d like.”

“Nah,” Alexandra insisted, “That’s just a major benefit of being in the public eye. Although, I won’t deny that I have used my beauty during the game. The other seeker gets dazzled and then I get the snitch.” She walked over towards him, to stand by his side as she too checked herself out in the mirror. The blonde hair she was rocking for the evening was startling, not something she was used to, but it was a nice change. She listened to him speaking about his sisters new boyfriend. It seemed rather odd for James to be so against somebody he didn’t know, “So, you had no idea about this guy before she sprung it on you that they were dating? They weren’t friends at school or anything?”

James looked into the mirror at Lex’s reflection, “Ah, you finally admit that is your tactic. Distract the other seeker with your good looks.” He laughed, “I guess as long as we win.” He much preferred to talk about Quidditch than Lily’s new boyfriend but there was a bit of relief to share his discontentment about him. “Well, I knew him from school, same year as me. I don’t know if they were friends... I hope they weren’t friends. Anyway, enough about that guy.” James tucked away his belongings and grabbed a small bag to throw over his shoulder. “Ready to go?”

“Regarde maman, je dois y aller. Je te rappelle plus tard? Au revoir, je t'aime.” She spoke into the phone quickly, ending the call quickly as she turned to the boy. “Sorry about that,” Jacqui laughed awkwardly. 

 James walked up to Jacqui and waited for her to end her phone call. He didn’t know much french but took a wild guess, “Talking to one of your parents or something? Hope I didn’t interrupt anything.”

Levi’s head sat in his hands, his elbows resting on the table of the far corner booth in the Three Broomsticks. He was still groggy from the night before, and his back was killing him. “I am so glad practice was canceled today,” he mumbled into his palms as he ran his hands over his eyes. “I just cannot do it today.”

James leaned up against the table and put his elbow on top. He tilted his head and rest his head into his palm. “Aw, is the baby tired?”

“Well, we’ve been on a team long enough, you should know that I like attention.” If people had an opinion on her? Well, let them have it. When he got dressed, Alexandra looked him up and down, “Jeans and a simple tee is so hot,” she observed. Intrigued the girl raised her eyebrow at James, “Of course. So who’s the infamous Lily Potter dating? Somebody who doesn’t have her big brother’s approval, that’s for sure.”

“I feel like you joined Quidditch just to have everyone’s eyes on you instead of the actual sport.” There were a couple of mirrors nearby, James walked over and adjusted his hair so it would dry how he liked it. Occasionally a random hair would stick out but that was something out of James’ control. he walked back to the lockers and pack away the rest of his stuff while he continued to talk. 

“I’m sure if it gets anywhere serious you’ll start hearing about it.” James remembered the conversation earlier with Arlo and it was apparent that they were being cautious about who knew about them two. Even though James cared little for Arlo, he didn’t want to upset his sister by sharing to everyone who she was dating. “It’s only been a few weeks anyway, I think. Literally just came out of nowhere. I think he’s just gonna bring trouble.”

Lex considered refusing to turn around and see what he would do, but instead, she simply raised her eyebrows, huffed and turned her back to him. “I’ll just have to use my imagination I guess,” she teased, unable to help herself.

“Why would I mind being seen with a potter?” She lied. For now, it was important to keep her beliefs hidden. Being seen with the enemy’s son would ensure that nobody figures out where her alliances were. She allowed an appropriate amount of time before turning back, just as he seemed to pull his boxers into place. “But that sounds amazing, do you have an outfit with you, or will you need to go home and change?”

“Because we are Potters. We attract attention everywhere we go. Everyone has an opinion about whoever is seen with us, but I’m sure you’re aware of that already. No need to tell you about it.” He pulled out some dark jeans and a simple shirt and quickly got dressed. “Would I stick out too much wearing this? I’m avoiding being at home because I’d rather not see this guy my sister decided to date. I think I look alright, what do you think?” He spread out his hands and took a small step back. “Party material?”

“Hopefully, next time we hang out will be earlier than next year,” she chuckled. She listened to him explaining what was going on in his head, biting down on her bottom lip. With everything that was currently happening, she just wasn’t sure what was the right path to follow and what was the right way to do. “Something big, you say? Of course you’d say that, you’re a Potter after all,” she teased but deep down inside she was worried that his knack for dramatics will land him in trouble. 

“I mean, it’s not just cause I’m a Potter.” James sighed, “I’m just tired of all this happening. I mean, my dad didn’t go through all that shit just so that we can have some blood supremacist running around attacking people...maybe it is cause I’m a Potter.” James didn’t know what to do, he needed to find someone that was just as determined to do something and not scared to be loud about it. It seemed like most people he came across were too fearful to stand out. “We needa make our own symbol or something. That would look cool. Stick it on all the walls and let those guys know we’re after them.”

“And I’ll try to refrain from taking a cheeky peak,” she winked as she strutted outside, ensuring she didn’t promise that she would wait for him, even though she had every intention of doing so. She tried to wait as patiently as she could although patience wasn’t one of her traits, she did believe that it would be worth it in the end.  

Lex saw through the door wait that he had returned, wearing just a towel, so she stood from her seat and made her way back into the changing rooms, “How ever will I sleep at night?” she asked, she made no sign of hiding the fact that she was checking him out, “Oh, an old friend. Luis Rodriguez, keeper in the Spanish Leagues.” She twirled her hair around her finger, her eyes fixated on his chest rather than his face, “He’s over here looking at teams, we go way back. He said I could bring a plus one.” What she didn’t say was that Luis was her ex of sorts and by plus one Alexandra meant eye-candy.

James rubbed a towel over his head to dry off his mess of hair. It was obvious that he inherited he unruly hair of his father’s. He gestured to Lex to have her turn around as he dropped the towel and slipped on his boxers.

“A plus one.” James pondered, did he want to go out? He wasn’t planning on it but he couldn’t turn out an evening with Lex. She looked good in her short dress and he had to hold himself back from running his hands all over her. “If you don’t mind being seen with a Potter, I’m available to join you.”

Lex twirled on the spot as he checked her out. The dress itself was silver, short and lowcut in both the front and the back. In short, it was incredibly revealing, as most of her clothes were. She had used a temporary potion on her normally dark glossy locks to turn them blonde. Once she turned to face him once more, she smirked, “Come on, Potter you should know I’m the biggest party animal on this team,” she raised her eyebrows challengingly. “Tempting,” she replied, and it really was tempting to join him, nobody was around, they’d never know. “But, I think I’ll get you out much quicker if you’re not distracted by my being in there with you.” She turned her back and walked towards the exit, “Where’s the fun in it if I don’t make you work a little,” she winked and giggled, “I’ll wait for you out here.”

It was a big contrast. Lex’s party dress and her dolled up look while James stood covered in dirt and sweat. He smirked and started heading over to where the showers were located. He looked over his shoulder, “I’ll try not to take too long. I might be a little heartbroken if you’re gone when I’m back.”

Ten minutes passed as James emerged back out with a towel wrapped around his waist looking much cleaner. “You missed out Lex, should of joined me.” He wondered where Lex was heading to and if she wanted company. He knew that there had to be some reason that she had stopped by to the locker room.  “So who’s party are you going to?”

“How much time do you have? Because I can go on about that for days,” she looked at him and shrugged her shoulders, smirking lightly. “Jamie…” she moved a little closer to him. “Honestly, I see that something is bothering you… do you want to talk about whatever this is?”

He glanced at the clock, “I’ve got plenty of time. It’s been a while since we got to catch up, who knows when the next time will be.” When she had moved closer, he bit the inside of his cheek. He knew that he was not the best person at hiding his feelings. When something bothered him -- it was usually obvious. Sometimes it wasn’t worth the battle pretending like everything was fine when he was clearly lying. “It’s nothing specific.” He shrugged, “I just think something bigger needs to be done and everyone is just sitting around and letting all the bad stuff happen. But I don’t even know what to do. I just want to do something.”

“Well now that would be telling,” she smirked, biting down on her lip. She really shouldn’t be here. He was the enemy, whether he knew it or not. But when she’d heard somebody still in the changing room, she was curious as to who it was and whether they would consider keeping her company at the party she was attending. “I’m sure you could, but not quick enough to use in any form of defence.” Lex continued to keep her eyes trained on him, “Hmmm, I don’t know about that…” she began before she broke off with a shriek and dodged out the way of his sweaty towel. Her heels clattered on the floor as she moved out the way. “Sweat can be quite sexy, depending on how it’s made of course. Sweaty towels on the other hand-” she used the toe of her show to kick the towel in the direction of the laundry, “Not so much.” 

James smirked as his eyes followed the small towel that got kicked toward the side. Someone else would probably pick that up. The conversation was quite suggestive, but that wasn’t anything new to James. “You look like you’re all ready to go out somewhere.” He said while eyeing her attire. He wondered how she managed to even have enough energy to still go out after practices - but he honestly didn’t know much about Lex outside of their scheduled practices and games.

He grabbed another larger towel and swung it over his shoulder. “I’m going to rinse off... mind waiting for me? I think I’ll be a lot more enjoyable to be around after I freshen up. Feel free to join me if you’d like.”

“Quite quiet, yeah,” she mused and sat up a little bit more straighter. Tilting her head to the side, she glanced at James. “Oh,” she let out a little sigh when he mentioned the attack and then just shrugged her shoulders. “It’s old news now, new people have been attacked…” she bit on her bottom lip. “But I’m okay, well, as okay as I can be with everything going on,” she mused. “Had to start dating your cousin because you won’t love me,” she teased with a small smirk, hoping to have him smile again and bring the light mood back again between them.

“That’s good.” James mumbled, not really knowing what to say. He was glad that she was okay, or at least that’s what she said. It was hard to be truly ‘okay’ with all the crap going on.  “Oh yeah, about that.” James said, “How’s that going?”

Arlo flinched at James’ harsh words. It wasn’t as though he had been expecting friendship, or even kindness from Lily’s brother. But he hadn’t been expecting such brutal honesty either. It hurt. It hurt because he felt the same way. Despite how often Lucy and Lily tried to convince him otherwise, he knew he wasn’t worth the trouble he was causing them both. He lived in fear that they might one day wake up and realise that. It seemed James already had. “I’m not.” He breathed, his voice cracking with emotion. “I’m not. But Lily doesn’t believe me. She refuses to.” He swallowed thickly, he hadn’t read Romeo and Juliet, though it was one of the books he planned to borrow from Lucy’s shelf. Though he knew the story was considered a tragedy. A love story with a painfully unhappy ending. “I don’t know- I can’t tell you-” He admitted, his desperation clear in his tone, in the tears that blurred his vision. “I don’t know. I- I only know how much she means to me..”

“Mhm...” He was probably a bit more blunt and harsh than he needed to be. If Arlo was just a friend, he most likely would be at least a little bit nicer. Since it was a person that his sister was dating... well he just wanted to see how Arlo would react. James glanced over at him and noticed the desperation in his facial expression.

“Look, you don’t need to get all emotional with me. But if you don’t know the answers to what I asked, I suggest you get started on thinking about it before you do anything serious with my sister.” James looked at Arlo and stood back up straight from the counter, “Anyway, I’m tired. There’s some beers in the fridge you can drink while you’re waiting for Lily.” He walked forward and stared at Arlo directly in the eyes, “See you around.”
