First, I would like to state that everything I am about to say has been reviewed and vetted for accuracy and can be verified by my former senior guild officers and co-guild leaders. Since much of what has been said about me concerns events that took place nearly six or seven years ago, it has taken some time to contact old friends and colleagues to get their input, review and verification of facts. However, I am now confident that what I am about to say is precise and verifiable by third parties.
Therefore, keep in mind that this is not only me speaking in this post, but about a dozen other people (plus more if necessary) with direct knowledge of situations or who were present during meetings, calls, recording sessions, ect.
Since this is going to be a very, very long post with lots of information (and since Tumblr does not allow me to upload huge amounts of data in a single post), attachments and other evidence will be placed in either a separate post or drop box or some other place.
First, I would like to reiterate that what I am about to state is something that can be verified by Anaveya Blackcrest, Talandriel Sunchaser and Tellaria Evensong. Again, since much of what I am about to relate took place between ten and five years ago, there is a lot of history and each of the previously-named individuals can verify the parts that they were witness or a party to at the time.
In terms of what has been accused of me, I would like to state that yes, of course I got angry at people when they did things that warranted anger. Yes, I raised my voice at people. Yes, people were removed from the guild when it was justified.
Did I talk about situations in the guild or concerning other people to my senior officers? Sure. Did we all vent together about certain people or situations going on around us? Sure.
But to state that everything always and only originated from me is disingenuous and not true.
Also, when you are in close quarters with other people who you trust, you talk to one another. You shoot the breeze.
After stressful situations, Anaveya and I would sit down and have “a good reaming” review so that we could turn stress and anger into laughter and move on from situations. That’s the healthy way to do it.
I bet that there is not one person reading this who hasn’t vented or exploded about someone or something to another person in private before. It’s natural. It’s healthy. In fact, most people do that all the time to people they trust with regards to work, school, life, family, relationships, money, politics, ect.
This also leads me to my next point about supposedly being “two faced.”
To say that my private rantings about other people in the guild, server, role play community, gaming community or people or things in general was somehow more sinister or manipulative than anyone else that does it is not true.
Here’s another example. At a workplace, even if you hate your coworkers, you have to be civil and professional while on the job. If you work retail, you might have to deal with Karen on a daily basis. Yes, you might want to tear their head off, but you smile and reply politely that they have to wear a mask.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, you’re going to have to come back tomorrow,” is what you might be saying out loud.
“Oh my God, you stupid shit, I told you three times that we are out of stock and no, you may not speak to the fucking manager, you asshole,” is that you might be thinking or vent later to your partner when you get home from work.
Again, there is nothing two-faced about that. In fact, it’s better to think that way now rather than let it build up and not deal with it at all.
Here’s another example related to role play. Every guild leadership team discusses other guilds and role players on the server. Yes, we try to remain professional and polite, but behind the scenes, we are honest and frank about our opinions of people, stories, guilds and other community members. And truly, that’s how safe we should feel to talk about these things among friends.
So yes, there have been many times when I’ve posted something on my Tumblr blog or the guild website that is as professional as possible, but behind the scenes, the discussion was more similar to something like, “OMG, there is no fucking way we are role playing with these shits, I think the one dude just got out of prison for murder.”
Again, it was not JUST me that would make comments like that. Also, there is nothing wrong with talking among your trusted friends and officers like that either. There is not a person alive on Earth who does not do this. It’s natural. Sure, it might not be to the degree or as profane as stated in my hypothetical examples above.
Here, I would like to clarify that behind the scenes, dirty jokes were not an everyday occurrence by anyone. The idea that Skype and officer chat was a madhouse filled with hourly lewd jokes, stories and images is false. Sure, they happened on occasion (by everyone, I might point out), but not as often as is being portrayed. Also, I cannot remember one time when an explicit image was shared on Skype (I certainly never did that) or other platforms.
Again, before everyone’s mind starts to wander, as far as I know, no one ever shared any lewd images of themselves (I would have removed people for doing this) or solicited these types of images or content from anyone else (again, a removable offense). As far as I know (and I can only speak for myself), there was no ERP or private intimate Skype calls either.
By and large, we joked and discussed other things throughout our Skype calls.
I should also point out that by “dirty” jokes, I mean things like:
“You know Khadgar is old now, right?” - Someone
“I’d hit it.” - Someone Else
Talandriel, Tellaria and Jaedan would not have been comfortable with more explicit jokes and, for the most part, neither would I.
Also, many of these jokes were directed at me or at my expense. The idea that I was the “initiator” of every single joke (dirty or not) is certainly untrue.
Of course, you can snip out screenshots and cherry pick one, two or ten images out of hundreds of hours of conversations to make it seem like this was a constant occurrence. But again, that’s misleading.
“On Air” Persona vs. Behind the Scenes
With regards to this topic, all I can say is that anyone who has ever had a YouTube channel or Twitch.tv stream and has gotten videos demonetized can explain perfectly why it is necessary to keep your online content clean and family-friendly.
In fact, you cannot even mention “COVID-19″ or “Coronavirus” on a YouTube video without the risk of your video getting demonetized, taken down, or lost in the YouTube algorithm. That’s how fickle they are over at Google these days. And this was even true BEFORE the latest “adpocalypse.”
Thus, all of my content is family-friendly and ad-friendly for YouTube.
After recordings or between sessions, are there “let your hair down” proverbial smoke breaks? Of course! That was true of ALL of us. Of course there are certain things you cannot say on air that you can say during a commercial break.
Again, before anyone’s mind starts to wander, it’s not like during commercial breaks or off the air we all started to run around naked and scream racial epithets. But, if I said, “Oh my God, that was a fucking long ass segment,” that does not make me a “completely different person than on air” or engaging in any behavior that is out of the ordinary.
The same applies for talking about other guild members. If we had to remove someone from the guild because, as an example, they were engaging in public ERP on the server, then of course behind the scenes I might say, “What a fucking fuck ass,” to the rest of the officers on a Skype call. Again, it’s called shooting the breeze and blowing off steam.
Also, there are times when you have to do something for the purpose of doing your job where you remain professional but really have to fight to be in that mental state. For example, if I had to interview Adolf Hitler, sure, I would try to do my best to remain professional but you cannot help but feel disgust and a whole boatload of other emotions while doing so. After the interview, I might need to shower for three weeks straight and bleach my ears out ten times.
Yes, that is an extreme example, but again, being professional in the moment for the sake of doing your job or something important and then blowing off steam or venting about it later is not uncommon nor is it “two faced.”
I would also like to point out that, again, everyone engaged in this type of behavior. It was not only me. Lyrinel and Thradia both at times said, “This [guild member] needs to get their shit together,” or something to that effect. Again, it’s one thing to point out every time I said something bad about someone else but then ignore every time you also said something bad about another person.
Again, I think that this accusation was supposed to be a “big reveal” or “gotcha” moment, but most people who know me already knew that I vent to them or others or to the wind. In fact, on Twitter and Tumblr and everywhere else, Anaveya and I have stated repeatedly that we both are students of the “Art of the Ream.”
It’s not some hidden secret.
Recording Calls and Other Data
As my former guild officers can attest to, we had an incident within the guild about seven or eight years ago where someone was using a fake identity to attempt to procure financial assistance from me personally. At some point, we determined that they may have been using a minor to solicit this type of assistance from people online. After this incident, anything and everything became subject to recording.
This person (”Jamie”) began using their in-game character to role play with us and eventually became a junior officer in the guild. As they became more comfortable with us, they started sharing photographs of “themselves” on Skype and attempted to engage romantically with me on an OOC basis. I should state very clearly, I do not ERP and I do not do any OOC ERP with anyone (it would take in-person identity verification and a background check for me to even consider it - think I’m paranoid? Read on.). None of these photographs were sexual in nature as I do not solicit nor wish to receive these types of photographs.
Ironically, the photographs that "Jamie” was using turned out to be photographs of someone who worked in Las Vegas as a show assistant for Anthony Cools (hypnotist comedian who had a show at Paris Las Vegas). Since I travel to Las Vegas quite often for work and have a business relationship with Caesars Entertainment (casino ownership group that owns Paris Las Vegas and other casinos in Las Vegas and around the country), I figured that we could meet up in public after a show one evening. Of course, I always got the runaround or an excuse as to why this would not be possible.
Eventually, I did order a pizza for "Jamie” and her “mother” and allowed my credit card to be used on Dominos.com (I placed the order - I did not give them my credit card number). This is where my suspicions began as they left a tip of nearly $20 for a $10 pizza order. To make a long story short, soon after this, I was asked to send them $5,000 to help “her” and her mother get out of an abusive situation. I declined, and began an investigation into the matter. Shortly after, I saw another charge from Dominos.com on my credit card online banking portal for $100 (the tip had apparently been amended after the sale).
I filed a police report with my local police department. They called the local Dominos in Houston, Texas and the charge was removed from my credit card. My local police department then considered the matter resolved since I had received my money back. I wanted to pursue it further, but as many people who have suffered identity theft can attest to, the buck often stops as soon as you get your money back or the credit card company removes the fraudulent charge. Yes, in a perfect world, my local police department would be able to convince the Houston Police Department to drive out to the delivery address and interview everyone involved. However, they are simply not going to do that over a $30 pizza charge. It is a waste of their time, in their eyes.
At this point, my fellow guild officers and I set up a “sting” meeting on Skype with “Jamie” where she admitted to using a fake identity but now claimed that she was actually 14 years old and their housemate (who was 19) was making her solicit money from people online. She even sent photographs of a new individual to Anaveya and myself holding up a sign that read, “Coram.”
That evening, “Jamie’s” mother called my cell phone and explained that it was their housemate who was behind everything and that he liked to role play as a “Jamie” character and was forcing the other individual to pose with the signs for us.
At this point, none of us knew what to believe. However, it was time to report this to higher authorities. What if this 14 year old girl and her mother were being held captive? What if the “mother” was in on it? What if they all were in on it? There were too many bad possibilities to simply let this go. Thus, the following morning, I called the Houston Police Department and sent the detective who opened the case everything we had on the situation.
Obviously, at that point, we were out of the loop as to what happened afterward, since this was no longer just a simple guild matter and the police or district attorney are not going to give us any updates on open cases. We removed “Jamie’s” characters from the guild and that was the last we heard on that matter.
After this incident, everything would be recorded and archived for years after it occurred. That includes in-game chat, Skype calls and other conversations. I wish I had recorded the call between myself and “Jamie’s mother.” I wish I had recorded the call between myself and the police.
While that may seem excessive to most people, it sure as hell does not sound excessive to me given what you experience on the Internet if you hang around long enough.
Thus, although it has been portrayed that I recorded people’s calls to play them back as jokes or in jest or something more sinister, you never know with people on the Internet (or, in cases such as this, when things might be useful even years later).
Also, New Jersey is considered a “one party consent state” so I am legally free to record any type of call that I wish.
My Health, Lyrinel and the Tattoo
One part that both of us agree on is that towards the end, we had enough of one another. Lyrinel claims that this was because I was “invading and claiming” her entire life. I assert that it was because of other reasons.
First, I do not talk about my personal health struggles because I used to be a very skinny, athletic person in high school and the first part of college. By the time 2015 and 2016 came around, I was not very healthy at all. I weighed almost 280 pounds (compared to 138 pounds in high school), my ankles were becoming swollen from unknown causes and I had just been in a car accident where someone ran into my rental car and caused me to skid down a hill and over train tracks. More on that later.
After dealing with all car accident, the very next day Lyrinel had the nerve to ask me to buy her a $600 tattoo for her birthday when she and Thradia came to visit me in New Jersey that winter.
Now, you have to imagine, after paying $700 a month for health insurance and now a $3,000 deductible on my personal auto insurance policy because they could not find the person who slammed me off the road, how ridiculously insensitive and offensive this was to me.
Fast forward, it turns out that not only did all of this madness happen, but after I moved back to California a year later, the Office of Student Health at UC Santa Barbara finally decided that I had cancer growing in my ankles and that’s why they were getting worse and worse. Thus, after JUST moving across the country and paying for school and an apartment and everything else involving the car accident, I would now have to move BACK across the country, change health insurance policies again (which means new deductibles and out of pocket maximums) and, oh by the way, deal with cancer.
The total cost for this when it was all said and done was $37,000… and that was WITH health insurance and auto insurance.
As it turned out, when I got back to New Jersey and they performed a needle biopsy, the “cancerous” growth was actually chronic tophaceous gout and not some form of PVNS or other type of cancer. However, the financial and emotional damage was already done.
Why is this offensive, you ask?
Because now Lyrinel is claiming that all of health issues were made up simply to abuse and gaslight her and Thradia.
Is this what you do to people who tell you (in confidence, mind you) that they have health issues and potentially a cancerous growth inside them?
Is it your place to come out and tell people what your “advanced diagnosis” of my medical conditions are in a public space?
Quick frankly, that’s akin to a friend saying, “Hey, I may have cancer, guys,” to you in private and then you going to Tumblr or Twitter and being like, “Hey, look, someone’s making up a cancer scare for sympathy and to gaslight us.”
And yes, I understand that people do make up disabilities and health conditions on the Internet and in real life but if someone was so involved personally with my life or claimed to care then they should know better. Also, anyone can call my doctors listed at the bottom of the post if they want.
Also, I found it irritating that Lyrinel would constantly talk about how I was lucky to have a job and money and as much as I tried to educate her on how expensive it is to own a house and pay property taxes (especially here in New Jersey) and federal and state income taxes and copays on prescription drugs, it was always about that $600 tattoo.
Most people who are reading this who do not understand personal finance or economics probably are not aware that we are all on the financial brink right now. In the United States, if we do not pass universal basic income or medicare for all, and if Medicare and Social Security for the elderly are dismantled (like conservatives desire), most people will be in financial ruin (and many people are already on that path at the moment). The average American family cannot afford a $750 emergency.
Most financial advisors tell people retiring today that they need to have their houses, cars, loans, credit card debt and everything else paid off and $1.7M (million) in retirement funds available to them. And that’s WITH Social Security and Medicare in tact. And that’s to replace about 75% of their income in retirement.
Now project that out to 2065 when I retire. Inflation, rising costs of goods and everything else comes into play. Plus, let’s say conservatives get their way and I have to pay for my own health insurance and I do not receive Social Security. Health insurance premiums for people who are age 70 can be like $2,400 a month if you have to buy it yourself and do not qualify for Medicare Parts A and B.
Thus, every expense that can be reduced, every budget adjustment that needs to be made, every penny that can be saved… should be.
Now I’m all for a single-payer medicare for all system that is free at the point of service for patients and universal basic income and expanded Social Security. However, after just laying out $37,000 on medical care, it is not cool to ask for something that is not a life-essential expense.
Lyrinel claims that I would use alcohol as a vehicle to manipulate her and others. She calls my health conditions here again “alleged” and thus insinuates that they were all made up.
Actually, I DID have an undiagnosed condition that caused my body to be unable to process purine properly and therefore create an excess amount of uric acid. This is what caused the gout to form everywhere inside me.
This went undiagnosed because normal blood panels do not test for uric acid and because gout traditionally forms in the joints of your thumbs or large toe (my tophi formed in my ankles and wrists and knee joints).
I do not drink anymore because NOW I know what the issue is (I’m allowed like a few glasses of wine every few months and don’t even partake in that, really). I take the maximum dosage of Allopurinol to fight my uric acid production. This is ON TOP OF not drinking alcohol or soda or lots of red meat and certain types of shellfish.
Again, to shame someone due to a health issue that is beyond their control is offensive. To tell people that their health conditions are all just “made up” excuses to manipulate people is offensive.
No one should be forced to relate or justify their health or physical ailments on a public forum.
Also, knowing that no one else was going to drink alcohol during our future trips together (more on that later), I actually made a point to compliment Lyrinel’s mother’s sweet tea and consume that during the trip. Also, I was driving everyone around, so of course I was not going to drink and drive.
There are several points here that need to be clarified. I’ve been reviewing the history of the show with current and past show hosts and if you wish to get their input then you can all contact them directly. They are all listed on the show’s website, Tumblr and other social media platforms.
First, I never stated that “we needed to have a female voice” to make the show more marketable. What all of us said is that we did not want to have a show that was just a bunch of “gamer bro dudes” because there were already 100,000 of those podcasts and YouTube channels out there and that it would not be inclusive the entire role play community to just have us two on the show.
Second, all of the “mysterious” emails that only I received that I have been accused of making up to cause drama or gaslight individuals were in fact real emails, private messages and other forms of communications. As can be verified by current and past hosts of the show, each of us often receive individual feedback or feedback about the show at our own respective private social media platforms. Each of us pull from a different group of people in the Warcraft universe, and therefore we receive our own criticisms individually from people we know. This is not uncommon for any podcast or media production. Also, current and former show hosts have seen emails, messages and other forms of communication that have been critical of each of us individually and as a show in general and can verify this
Again, I have reviewed all constructive (and not so constructive) feedback with all current and previous hosts, and we all remember receiving individual feedback at different times from different members of the community who only knew us individually and felt more comfortable voicing their feedback to us in a private, one-on-one setting.
No one was ever singled out with specific commentary over and over nor were there these long sessions of brow beating that have been alleged. Again, this can be verified by current and past hosts.
The suggestion that Lyrinel would move in with me was a suggestion that would not have worked given the fact that I was planning on moving back to California the following January to re-certify my travel writing and finish a second B.A at my old university (UC Santa Barbara) - which I did a year after my intended timeframe due to health reasons.
Also, the idea was not mine exclusively. Lyrinel had even looked up pet grooming places near my house on Google and had asked if I had a spare car that she could use while staying with me.
Again, this narrative that I was some “creepy guy” who solicited Lyrinel to move in with me is simply not true. In fact, as she stated hundreds of times throughout the course of her time in Coram Populo, “I am [your] mother. I am going to come clean house in New Jersey.” This can all be verified by Talandriel and Tellaria.
Either way, if I had suggested that it would be okay with me at some point, to suggest that she was horrified by the idea is not true. She had even stated that it would be good to be closer to Thradia (the other individual mentioned in her post) and it would get her away from her housing situation at the time.
Actually, now that I’m remembering things again (keep in mind that this was over half a decade ago), that’s exactly what happened. She had been talking about how her current housing situation at the time and how there was an abusive man in their house and they (her and her family member) needed to get away and how it would be perfect for them. That’s how the conversation started. Yes, she had just moved from Oklahoma to another state to live with another relative and that relative was seeing some abusive man. So yes, either one of us might have brought up the idea of her and her family member staying with me.
The point is, even if one person was the first person to suggest it or not, it was not something that was “pushed” on anyone and Lyrinel was definitely not horrified by the idea and there was certainly no propositioning or solicitation or pressure on my part. An offer, sure. But again, most people in that type of situation would offer to help their friend in some type of way.
Also, my house has multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, so even if people were to move in with me, there would be no sharing of private spaces. Again, not that anyone insinuated anything about that thus far, but it needs to be stated. I enjoy having my own separate bedroom and bathroom on a completely separate floor of the house.
Trips to Alabama/Oklahoma
Before I go into details about in-person visits, I want to state very clearly several points:
- No one was ever alone in any public or private quarters with another individual. The exception would be in the car driving to pick someone up from the airport or a house or place of residence.
- 99% of the time, I have my own hotel room when I travel, whether it is for work or leisure. Sometimes I share a hotel room with my mother if we are vacationing together and the prices for hotel rooms exorbitantly high. These trips were not exceptions to these rules. No one was ever alone in my hotel room or anyone else’s private living quarters. There may have been moments when we all raided together from Lyrinel’s bedroom, but again, no one was alone in those few hours and no one felt as though that situation was awkward or uncomfortable (we all agreed that it would be fun to raid together in-person on raid night).
- Although they were both adults at the time, I insisted on meeting their parents before hanging out with them. THIS IS IMPORTANT. I would later find out that one of them told me that they had explained their trip itinerary in full detail to their parents only to reveal that they had not told their parents the complete story, so to speak. Again, not that anything horrible happened during the trip, but it would have been nice for her parents to have additional emergency contacts and know the full scoop.
- There was never any inappropriate sexual conduct committed, physical or otherwise, during these trips by anyone. Yes, I know that this was never something that was stated by anyone, but I’m stating in just in case people’s minds begin to wander off course.
As stated previously, Lyrinal self-appointed herself my “mother” and that was the nature of our relationship (at least that is how I viewed it).
The first trip mentioned was actually first and foremost a trip to see Talandriel and Tellaria. Before they moved to a new state, Talandriel and Tellaria lived not too far away from where I flew into Atlanta for work. Because Lyrinel also lived near them, it was convenient to pick her up as well.
Even though Lyrinel was 18 at the time (and thus an adult), I still felt the need to meet her mother (real life mother). I did so and her mother was fine with me. As someone that travels frequently, I understand the need to have emergency contacts and someone who knows where you are supposed to be, even if you are not leaving the country.
Again, I would like to point out that at no time during these trips did anyone make other people feel uncomfortable or attempt any unwanted advances or to force unwanted social situations on another person. Talandriel and Tellaria can back this account up as well.
The second trip to see Lyrinel was actually a trip to see multiple guild officers. The idea that the entire premise of the trip was to somehow to isolate one or two specific individuals is untrue and without basis. No one was ever alone with a single person except when we would drop people off and I would be driving people back to their houses at night.
In fact, during that trip we took a drive out to remote mountains that overlooked the Oklahoma plains. Everyone returned safely and no one mentioned feeling uncomfortable, even when isolated 75 miles away from civilization.
The assertion that my lifestyle is all for a show and without substance is unfounded as well. Yes, I took photos with tiger cubs. Is that a problem? Who is anyone else to tell me what I can or cannot do in my free time?
I travel a lot. Is that also a problem for people?
Also, in terms of the ONE TIME that I won a raffle drawing at a casino, no one else knew about that but Lyrinel and Thradia at the time because it was on the way to see them.
Did I post that on social media? No.
Did I mention it on YouTube? No.
Did I talk about it on the podcast? No.
In fact, I bet anyone reading this is JUST hearing about that prize raffle win for the first time.
This all seems like cherry picking to try and take cheap shots at things that have no bearing on anyone’s character or persona.
Capitalist Guild and Lifestyle
Again, I have no idea where the accusations concerning me being a “capitalist guild leader” come from or what basis they stand upon. For reference, you can again speak to Talandriel or Tellaria about their perceptions of my leadership or management style. Since my words really do not matter here, speak to them directly. Or speak to other current guild members in Coram Populo or the Azeroth Trade Federation.
Also, I would like to point out that people are free to hold whatever political, religious or other spiritual beliefs that they want and should not have to suffer harassment or judgement because of them.
In addition, just to be clear, I am a Democratic Socialist and a populist leftist. I supported Bernie Sanders in 2016 and 2020. Again, none of this should matter and no one should be shamed or harassed due to their politic affiliations or beliefs. I do not even understand why any of this was brought up at all.
Is this some type of Tumblr purity test? Is this supposed to be a “gotcha” moment?
Finally, you can speak to current podcast hosts who work with me (and who have worked with me for years) about my style as a producer and host. Again, they will tell you the exactly opposite of what has been stated about me. Their words mean more than mine do in a situation like this.
Lyrinel claims that I somehow made veiled threats by “hacking people’s blogs or IP addresses.” Again, this is either hyperbole or an exaggeration.
What I have ALWAYS maintained is the following:
1. I use Google Analytics on my blogs, websites, podcast pages and social media sites. This allows you to view people’s demographics who visit and interact with your websites, pages and social media platforms.
2. I use Statcounter in the same manner described above. Statcounter data includes the information described above plus an individual’s IP address and browser information when they visit.
3. Yes, there are people who can track a person’s IP to their computer and address. They are called the police.
I am not afraid of going to the police if people stalk my blogs to harass or threaten me.
Yes, that means going to and/or above the local police if someone doxes or swats me.
Yes, that means going directly to a district attorney or a U.S. attorney if that does not work.
Everyone is entitled to use whatever legal tools are available to them to report crimes, harassment, threats, hate speech or other types of communication that are not covered by the first amendment. That includes me.
Of course, I am all for radical change in the way we police in this country. However, there are certain, very specific use cases where using the police is necessary.
Many of the things that have been said about me are simply not true. Some of these allegations are not even “he said/she said” moments, but simply not based in factual events (i.e podcasting replacements, recording calls solely for “funsies,” ect.).
I know that they intention here is to paint me as an abuser, a manipulator and the “creepy guy” but I am not going to lie down and allow people to walk all over me. I know that these individuals tried to do something similar to this six or seven years ago when they left Coram Populo and I stayed silent, but that is no longer going to be the case. I am no longer sickly, dealing with undiagnosed Diabetes and gout and hypertension and heart disease.
I am strong and I am back.
No one is, or will ever be, forced to interact with anyone else. However, my plans for returning to Wyrmrest Accord are unchanged as are my plans to start creating podcasts, streaming and YouTube content again.
