Art and Poetry by Vidya Premkumar
All feels so disjointed
distorted
The result of a slight
loss of balance in
the inner senses of reason,
familiar stable patterns
are
a jangle of strings.
Day 29: The Poeming: A Found Poetry Project from The Haunting of the Hill House by Shirley Jackson, 2009 Penguin Random House edition.
A little bit off centre -
The doors
upset the delicate
balance of the
invisible
and the visible.

Design-
The carnival of time
eludes us.
A showplace,
strange,
slightly wrong.
A degree off.

Two small children
lonely perhaps, but not unhappy
run in the meadow
and pick wildflowers
as
somewhere in the library,
a collection of postcards
sent to the two little girls
from their father
remained
until they were
grown up.
The children growing up like mushrooms
in the dark
felt differently.

I
looked oddly well,
comfortable
wearing
a vivid yellow shirt,
more light
in this room.
I feel
in this dreary place
it is our duty
to look as bright as possible.
Be visible.
Day 24: The Poeming: A Found Poetry Project from The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
The poem is culled by Vidya Premkumar from the Penguin Ramdom House 2009 edition.
Don’t feel rejected,
a message
this flower.
They carefully avoiding me.
I singled out again,
pretending it is nothing,
turn away indifferently
from the message,
comforting cold hand in
warm bed and little sleep.
Peace, what I want in all.
Young people living-
it is a shame
the way children grow up
knowing everything.
There should be more mysteries
for them,
more things
they have to wait to find out.
Then they find them the hard way,
and
they start on them
and
journeys end with lovers meeting.
