“Babe, I’ve caught you snoozing with the girls. Hardcore evidence against you. It was right there on the couch and everything.” A smirk came along with the rather adorable memory. Spending the rest of the drive time going back and forth, enlightening her how a lot of the so-called ‘witches’ of both men and women were also of color making it a hate crime. (Not surprising in his eyes.) The man saw injustice everywhere for people of color and was always the first to speak up about it as well as defend those taking such things because of that stupid prejudice.
But, that subject was set aside when they got to the Salem Hotel. A dimpled grin carried them through checkout along with the bags he’d taken upon himself to get so they could reach their fantastical yet modern suit. Awaiting them inside being some white wine chilling on the kitchenette counter and little Dove candies in the shape of “Happy Birthday, V” on the bed. Special details he had made sure were there to help add to some romantic element of surprise.
“I have zero clue on what you are talking about. We weren’t sleeping. We were just laying there with our eyes closed,” she shrugged innocently. A small smile formed as he spoke, almost feeling a sense of pride for having someone that cared so much about getting justice and exposing things that most people wouldn’t notice. She was guilty of it from time to time, but being with him has helped her see it in a new light and stood beside him in support. There was enough racial violence now when everyone was said to be free, she knew that it was so much different in the past. The best she could do is stand beside him and support.
Once he took the bags, the redhead took the room keys, her eyes staying on him as they walked, noticing the smile that never faded. As she opened the room, a face of shock formed as she looked around, a smile quickly forming as she wrapped her arms around him once he dropped the bags. “I love you so much. Thank you, Jackson. You’re perfect,” she pressed her lips against his, softly pulling away. “You shouldn’t spoil me. You could get yourself in trouble. Want one?” She took one of the candies, a small memory forming from when he brought the chocolates to her at the hospital. Pausing for a moment, she moved back to him, pulling him into another kiss.
