Above all, both you and your husband are upholders of the Lotus Sutra. You will surely bear a jewel of a child who is going to inherit the seed for the propagation of the Lotus Sutra. I wholeheartedly congratulate you. The child is the one who will inherit both your physical and spiritual aspects. How could you possibly suffer a prolonged labor? I expect that the child will be born quickly. If you take this medicine, there can be no doubt. Even the darkness becomes bright when a lantern is lit, and even muddy water becomes clear when the moon shines on it.

The Myosenji website’s treatment of the Ten Worlds is theoretical and lugubrious. “Even though the world of Buddhahood exists as a potential within us, it is hidden in the depths of our life. We need the seed of the Buddha to activate our Buddha nature.”

Where is the natural optimism of Nichiren! In this letter to Shijo Kingo and his wife the Daishonin is so upbeat, so confident. Buddhahood is so accessible and roaring to emerge!

This is the doctrine of original cause and original effect. It teaches that the nine worlds are all present in beginningless Buddhahood and that Buddhahood exists in the beginningless nine worlds. This is the true mutual possession of the Ten Worlds, the true hundred worlds and thousand factors, the true three thousand realms in a single moment of life.

No, Buddhahood has nothing to do with priests’ sanctions. It is inherent in life itself!

It seems that the editors of the Myosenji Temple website are just accelerating etheir priest-centric viewpoint. Three images of priests in one banner? Can this really be something that the editors believe in or are they just trapped by convention?

Of course the Daishonin had no illusions about the sanctimoniousness of priests. In the Gosho “The Tripikaka Master Shan-we-wei” (WND-I, p. 176) he warns us:

Accordingly, the Nirvana Sutra, which was preached in the grove of sal trees just before Shakyamuni Buddha’s passing, states that there will appear fghtful persons whose offenses are graver than the ten evil acts or the five cardinal sins—icchantikas, or persons of incorrigible disbelief, and those who slander the correct teaching. We also read there that such persons will be found nowhere else but among the company of wise men who observe the two hundred and fifty precepts, wrap their bodies in the three robes of a Buddhist monk, and carry a begging bowl.

Praising the united efforts of the Ikegami brothers, the Daishonin writes, “Could there ever be a more wonderful story than your own [that will be recounted by future generations]?” (“Letter to the Brothers,” WND-1, 499). "Let us unite to write a triumphant story of kosen-rufu that will continue to shine into the eternal future of the Latter Day of the Law. And as we do so, let’s joyfully and harmoniously accumulate great benefit day after day—each more wonderful than “a hundred years of practice in the Land of Perfect Bliss” (see “On Repaying Debts of Gratitude,” WND-1, 736)—on the unsurpassed stage of our mission!

What victories!

It has been 85 years since the Soka Gakkai, dedicated to realizing the Buddha’s intent and decree, was born.

It is also 70 years since second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda stood up amid the devastation of postwar Japan to rebuild the Soka Gakkai, carrying on the vision of his mentor, founding President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, who died in prison for his beliefs.

And it has been 55 years since I set forth as the third Soka Gakkai president, together with my fellow members, comrades in the shared struggle for kosen-rufu.

Today, the humanistic network of the SGI encompasses 192 countries and territories. We are helping people all over the world form a connection with Nichiren Buddhism and sowing the seeds of happiness in their lives. Nothing could be nobler than this.

The development of our movement is a triumph of the faith and unity of our members everywhere.

“Three times a charm” or “Three times a bomb”?

Rev. Murata must be so busy!!!! He has a whole month and it seems he cannot find anything to say...he has to plagiarize the speech of Priest Kimura in San Francisco. There is deception on top of deception because he copyrights his handouts as being the property of Myosenji Temple when in reality they were written in Pinole, CA.

Grab a hold of a copy of Rev. Murata’s May Oko lecture. Then compare it to this.

“The Plagiarist”

Hmmm....Rev. Murata’s Oko lecture in March was also plagiarized, word for word, from Rev. Kimura’s Oko lecture in February.

Is the plagiarism from a lack of something to say? Is it from pure laziness? Let’s call it Priest PacMan Syndrome, just eating up other people’s words.

OMG....How did Rev. Murata start his New Year, ushering forth fresh vitality?

In his January Oko lecture he copied the December Oko of Rev. Kimura of the San Francisco NST Temple.

The only difference? In referring to Nichiren Daishonbin, Rev. Kimura uses the pronoun “he.” Rev. Murata insisted on changing references to the Daishonin in the pronoun reserved for royalty or divities: “He.”

Mr. Toda is always in my heart. I constantly derive immense courage and wisdom from the life of this great lion king. Because the mentor triumphs with the courage of a lion king, the disciple stands up with lion-like courage. Because the mentor takes action with the vigor of a lion king, the disciple also takes action with lion-like vigor. Because the mentor speaks out with a fearless lion’s roar, the disciple also speaks out with a fearless lion’s roar. When mentor and disciple are united in their commitment to kosen-rufu, their lives brim with the life state of Buddhahood of the lion king. "Nichiren Buddhism is a teaching that enables anyone to become a lionhearted champion, leading to the creation of a network of such champions around the world dedicated to the realization of happiness and peace for oneself and others. It is a teaching for empowering each individual to become wise and strong, and to act as a protagonist in spreading happiness to others. It is a teaching for helping each person become a lion king.

Nichiren points out the one factor that determines the direction of not only each individual but also of the nation and society as a whole: that is, whether people are enemies of the Lotus Sutra or whether they have faith in the Lotus Sutra. If we express this in contemporary terms, it means that everything depends on whether the principles of respect for the dignity of life and respect for human beings taught in the Lotus Sutra become the spirit of the age, or whether society descends into a callous, coldhearted era in which life is devalued and people disrespected.

It is an immense source of pride for me that so many of my beloved members in Japan and around the world say that, through practicing Nichiren Buddhism, they have become happier than they could ever have imagined possible. Cherishing the Daishonin’s words, 'Those who now believe in the Lotus Sutra will gather fortune from ten thousand miles away' (WND-1, 1137), there are now countless “experts in the art of happiness” in the SGI, who have triumphed over the darkness of karma and sufferings such as financial hardship, illness, trouble with relationships and personal weaknesses. The Mystic Law is the great teaching that enables us to transform any hardship into happiness, as Nichiren assures us when he says, 'Misfortune will change into fortune' (WND-1, 412). Nichiren Buddhism enables those who have suffered the most to attain the greatest happiness.
