Tonight, I chanced upon my final interaction with the Adoring Admirer in ESO, and I won't lie, I cried when I heard what he said. I don't know, I guess I really needed to hear that or something. Text dialogue below.
Adoring Admirer: Right, so turns out vampires are in fact not immune to fire. Who would have thought it? And, I forgot to tell you which part of Elsweyr I was going to again, didn't I? I'm so forgetful--especially when I'm in front of my heroes, I get all nervous! Player: You're dead. Adoring Admirer: As it turns out, I am. A shame really. Never did much with my life now that I think about it. But I did have some great adventures recently! Can't say I would have ever had those if I stay cooped up back home. I learned another valuable lesson, too! Player: And what's that? Adoring Admirer: You've got to live your life. I mean, not just literally live it. Really experience it! Do things that make you uncomfortable. Things that make the hair on your arms stand straight up. Feel the thrill as a wamasu chases you through the swamp! Player: You seem happy about this. Adoring Admirer: Truth be told, I was afraid of the world. I didn't want to leave Bravil, my home. But then I'd read tales of adventurers and heroes, like yourself. They'd slay beasts. Save towns. Fall in love! I never thought I'd have something like that. Player: So you got yourself killed? Adoring Admirer: I experienced more in these past weeks then I have in my entire life! It was never really about being saved by you--it was about giving myself the courage to go out and do things myself. I'm not sure I ever really wanted you to save me. Player: Then why did you ask? Adoring Admirer: To find my courage. I knew if I thought you'd come along, I'd be brave enough to venture out. Even if I lied to myself. And I did it! I found my adventure. So thank you. Thank you for finally letting me live the life I always dreamt about! Player: Goodbye. Adoring Admirer: *bows and fades away*
I was so afraid his death would be a corny moment of him realizing he fucked up, and he'd be comedically sane for once as he recognizes that he's made a mistake, and regrets being so dumb in life that it got him killed. But no. He goes into an existential monologue about how life has risks, and if you remain sheltered to safety instead of accepting risk to experience more than your comfort zone has to offer, then you'll never live your life at all. Hope is a guide, and will help you through fear, and your heroes, even if they don't know who you are, can be the light against the shadows of fear. And even if you end up dying young as a result of the risks, so long as you found your life worth living at all, full of memories that made it worthwhile, then your death will not be meaningless, and you can move on knowing you did the most you could with the time you had.
Sorry, I gotta go cry again. That is... a lot.
Seasons Direct
ICYMI, ESO switched to a Seasons model this year, away from their chapter model. Seasons are 90 day windows of themed content rather than one big release on the update day, they're free for everyone, and not temporary. Season Zero goes live April 2nd and we will have One and Two in 2026.
Season Zero
Season Zero will have the Night Market, releasing April 29th and lasting 7 weeks until June 17th. They've already gone over the Night Market before and you may have seen it on PTS. Challenging PvE zone with a competitive (not pvp) element that I'm really excited for (go gilded goad). While it is temporary, it's planned to return at least once and could become permanent based on player reception.
Challenge Difficulty (previously known as Overland Difficulty) goes live June 8th. Also already gone over, optional toggle on the player themselves for reduced damage done and increased taken in overland (plus delves, public dungeons, story instances, etc), in exchange for increased gold and exp gains. No separation of players into different instances based on difficulty toggles.
New PvP reward system called Veterancy. New titles, perk, skill styles and more exclusive to this reward system, based on exp and AP gained in PvP. Rewards update every 6 months with some carrying over.
Quickly went over the remaining class refreshes and class mastery system coming, more details given previously here and timeline below.
Season One: further details given about some new systems previously went over here. Releasing July 2026
Favors are new daily quests associated with specific characters and guilds. Sort of an homage to the original hireling letters, getting a new letter each day with each Favor that continues the story. NPCs mentioned or shown were Telenger the Artifacer, Holgunn One-Eye (with Walks-In-Ash with him), Lady Arabelle Davaux, and Urcelmo.
Rumors sound like unmarked quests with a scavenger hunt, mystery, clue following element. You can track the clues in your journal under the Rumors section, but it's on you to solve them. No UI telling you who to talk to or where to go, said to be rather TES III Morrowind-esque. Some may have multiple endings or more to discover after you think it ends.
Sage's Vault is described as this space between realms that guards Sage Varnet's most prized possessions. We will learn more about it during the Thieves Guild storyline, and gain access to it with Nowhere Keys acquired by doing Season One activities (and other means). You'll tackle each of the three wings of the vault in any order, and they seem to be built to be handled not with damage, but through handling traps and puzzles, using stealth, and traversing the environment. Lots of secrets to uncover in the rooms that help solve the greater mystery of the Vault.
The new stories in Season One are a Thieves Guild sequel and a Sheogorath storyline. The Thieves Guild story has the return of Quen and takes place in Glenumbra. Antagonist is the Koldane Cartel and you'll discover what they're after. New places to hide like flower pots, new ways to stun guards and npcs called somnopowder, and get a new upgradable mythic item during the questline. As always, play in any order is allowed, but you will get more dialogue playing in order and reminder that the OG Thieves Guild is basegame now! The Sheogorath questline is about Sheo wanting to be a mortal for a while and you taking him around Tamriel doing mortal things (and of course things go wrong). Six quests long.
Dynamic World Events, sort of a mix between random encounters and incursions. They scale based on the number of players there and may have different goals than just "kill it until it's over". Some examples given were "rescue animals, defend a farm, team up to hunt down an epic vampire". System plans to be expanded beyond Season One.
High Seas of Tamriel: new event introducing naval combat/ship battles, undersea exploration, various oceanic encounters, deep sea fishing, puzzles and combat on the ocean floor. No date given, but was part of the Season One preview list originally.
Crimson Veldt, the new trial, will be base game. It is set in Hircine's Hunting Grounds and introduces a hardmode difficulty to "basepop" (which i learned today means trash/adds between boss fights... oops)
Season Two, releases October 2026.
Moon Hunter Keep and March of Sacrifices as solo dungeons. Can go solo or with a companion, optional difficulty toggles at the start, and new monster mask and cosmetic rewards
Mention of storms over some of Tamriel's coldest most wintery regions later this year into 2027. An iconic region never before explored in ESO. Stated to be Skyrim but nothing further. I'd guess Winterhold (finally) but who knows! Will be the first season of 2027. New kind of zone mentioned called an "Excursion" zone within it, a "new take on what a zone can be".
Again I'm so happy with this increase in communication and all this new stuff we're getting, there's a lot to be excited for going forward!
New look at the upcoming Thieves Guild sequel from today's livestream!!!!!!
ESO Seasons Direct 2026
Just want to say I had a shout out to everyone on Tumblr that ended up on the cutting room floor, but much <3 to everyone here who are so passionate and share their thoughts, their art, their stories and so much more. We have so much exciting stuff coming up this year and beyond!
Come join us on March 31'st! We're going to be revealing all the details on things coming up this year (including deep dives into the new content and new content systems).
Shivering Isles Tomeshell...
QUEN BACK FOR THE NEW THIEVES GUILD STORYLINE!!!
It is confirmed to be a sequel from the original eso thieves guild story, with an otherwise new cast.
I also noted this new TG icon looks kinda ayleid themed 👀 wonder how that's going to be relevant...
Beautiful drawing of Viintaas and Darien made by Digital_Replicant
ZeniMax on Elder Scrolls Online's future: free new content, the Tamriel Tomes Battle Pass, and moving beyond Chapters to Seasons.
Good interview with Nick and Susan from ZOS about all the stuff mentioned in the livestream and further explanations
Some stuff I found of note ⬇️, though I recommend reading the full interview
Regarding overland difficulty and soloable dungeons:
Future releases being free and the inclusion of older dlcs into base game in the future
The status of ESO+ in relation to Tamriel Tomes existing
Crossplay
They're a bit hesitant to give details on new zones and the traditional year long story, but promise there to still be overarching narratives
And the sad one: no dungeons in 2026. It's the tradeoff we get to have the dungeon team working on soloable dungeons this year 😔
I can confirm the Thieves Guild and Sheo content are 2 separate things. That's about all I'll say for now though :)
ESO Reveal Today!
Hey all! Hope everyone enjoyed today's big reveal. I wanted to clarify because I've seen some misconception, the Night Market is not the only new Content coming out this year. That's the focus of Season 0 (with all the other updates). Season 1 is going to have a lot of the quests/story you know and love (and some really cool new stuff). Not going to turn this into a full blown Q&A, but if there are any questions and I can answer them, I'll try when I'm near my PC. Hope you all enjoyed it <3
