I think this is really, really true. I feel like, the minute I stopped expecting one person to be my everything, I started being able to appreciate who my one person actually is without comparing him to a fictional everything that I had constructed in my imagination. It also sets one free to seek the things she needs without feeling guilt, and if everyone in the marriage understands this, it makes communication about these matters less fraught and less threatening, which is comforting, I think so, too!
