It was a late Friday night when you found yourself walking home from work. The closing shift at the bookstore you worked at was deemed yours for the night.
Typically, you would drive to work most of the time. Luckily, it wasn't too far from your apartment, which is why you decided to walk tonight.
Boy, what a mistake that was.
Your neighborhood was relatively safe for the most part. Sure, crime happened here and there, but you thought you'd be able to make it home safely within 10 minutes.
"Well, aren't you pretty?"
A quick shiver of fear ran through your body at the sound of a man's voice.
You didn't dare to turn around. The purse on your shoulder pressed harder against your side as you clutched it tightly.
"Hey, my friend is fucking talking to you!"
You internally screamed at the sound of the second voice, knowing there were definitely two men trailing behind you.
"I'm just trying to get home, thanks but no thanks," you stated as your feet started to pick up the pace.
You were only able to walk a few more feet before you felt a strong grip upon your arm. You let out a wince, feeling your body being dragged into an alleyway, the man tossing you against the brick wall.
"Damn, your front profile is even prettier than the back of you," one of the men said with a devilish grin on his face.
You couldn't help but throw the information out there that you were carrying a child. You were one month in, and it did not show on your stomach just yet.
Did you think this information was going to stop these men from whatever the fuck they wanted to do? You have no idea. Doubt it. But you were certain that you were going to try your absolute hardest to get out of this situation.
"Don't worry, we just want some fun."
His words sent a chill through you. As you watched one of the men start to grab the hem of your shirt, you immediately sent a knee to his crotch. He cried out in pain, hunching over as you attempted to book it out of the alley.
You let out a gasp once you felt the other man run behind you and grab a fistful of your hair. He tugged you back, his arm snaking around your waist as he held you back.
You attempted to get out of his grasp, thrashing around and letting out pleas to be let go.
"Who the fuck messes with someone pregnant? Seriously, guys? You're gonna make it so much more enjoyable to kill you now."
The guy holding you in his grasp turned around at the sound of another voice, your eyes landing on a man in a suit who you immediately knew was Vigilante.
Everyone knew who he was. People always talked about the man in a suit who goes around with no problem killing bad guys. You would have felt even more relief in that moment if you hadn't just felt a knife to your stomach.
"Fuck off or I'll kill the bitch and her baby!"
Your eyes widened at his declaration.
"How do you just decide one day you want to be a shitty person? Like, did you just wake up and tell yourself, 'hey, maybe I should harass a woman today?' God, what a waste."
The masked man rambled on for what felt like forever. The next moment felt like a blur. You watched as he quickly took a knife from behind his back, throwing the blade with ease as it lodged into the man's face.
You felt a small splatter of blood come from the man and land on the side of your face and cheek. His grasp on your waist faltered, his body meeting the ground with a harsh thud behind you.
An angry groan came from behind Vigilante. You looked over as you watched the guy you had hurt earlier try to swing at the masked man. With ease, Vigilante dodged the oncoming fist, sending a kick to his knee, followed by a brutal punch that sent the man straight to the ground.
"Your friend is probably alone and scared. Go meet him!" Vigilante cheerfully said before whipping out his gun and letting a bullet fly to the man's forehead.
You stood there, shocked, your eyes beaming at the floor beneath you. You heard light and slow footsteps make their way towards you, causing your eyes to look up at the man who just saved you.
"Are you okay? It is never safe for a woman to walk alone at night. Especially one who looks like you. And with a baby in the oven?"
He would have kept talking at the speed of light if you hadn't cut him off right there.
"Bun… the saying is bun in the oven," your soft voice replied, which made him laugh.
"You're right! I said baby in the oven. That's crazy. Babies definitely don't go in there. Anyway, can I walk you home?"
You watched as he picked up your purse from the ground and brought the strap over his shoulder. He walked over to you, his gloved hand gently wiping away the small splattered blood that was on your cheek.
You couldn't help but plant a small smile on your face from the funny sight of your purse on him. You gave him a small nod to his question, following him out of the alleyway as you began the walk home.
"Why were you walking out so late at night? Shouldn't your boyfriend or husband be doing the smart thing and caring for you?"
You couldn't help but chuckle at his idea of a conversation starter.
"I work at that bookstore down the street. I don't live too far, which is why I walked today. Also, I don't have a boyfriend or a husband."
Under his mask, Adrian made a sour face.
"Can I ask why he's not in the picture? If you don't want to answer, that's fine! I feel like I'll probably know the answer anyway. Men suck, so I am assuming he fucking sucked," he rambled.
You let out a small chuckle at his spew of words, deciding you didn't mind giving Vigilante all your lore.
You told him all about your ex. You were together for three and a half years, but knew each other for a bit longer. He treated you well for the most part, until you took a deeper look and realized how often he would 'go out with coworkers.' You didn't look into it further until you got pregnant.
His reaction was horrible. He was so certain his fun life was over, putting the blame solely on you. That's the same night you found out about him cheating on you for ages. You were typically against looking in someone's phone, but after his reaction, you needed extra fuel to leave him. Which, luckily, you did.
"Man! Only losers cheat. Seriously. I don't get why people do it! Like, if you're a horny piece of shit, just don't date! Do you want me to kill him? 'Cause I could."
You didn't notice you two had been standing in front of your apartment building for a while, just talking. You let out a pretty laugh at his crazy comments, which made a funny feeling grow in him.
"I made a pretty girl laugh, point for me!" He thought to himself.
A small sigh escaped her, followed by a glum chuckle.
"No, you don't have to kill him," you told him with a small smile. A beat of silence passed by before you spoke again.
"I genuinely don't know what I'm gonna do… b-but I guess I'll figure it out as time goes on."
A small sound came from him as he was about to reply, but you cut him off before he could. "Anyway, I really appreciate what you did for me. Truly. Thank you."
Your hand came up to the side of his arm, giving a reassuring squeeze that placed a goofy smile under his mask. And just like that, you quickly went inside your apartment building.
Unbeknownst to you, the masked man had taken a liking to you. He was dead set on wanting to help you, but he had to brainstorm some ideas.
A full month had passed since Vigilante had saved you. Ever since then, you drove your car day and night so a situation like before wouldn't happen again.
The bump on your belly was yet to be noticeable. However, the horrible nausea was starting to make its way into your life.
You were currently at work, coming in for a morning shift on a busy Saturday. The nausea had been so terrible, causing you to feel dizzy.
You carried a stack of books in your hand, the weight of it alone making you feel like gravity was pulling you down. As you took one last step, the horrid nausea feeling had you almost stumble to the floor.
A pair of hands steadied you, one hand on your arm while the other was on your waist. You look to the person who helped you, seeing a pretty, cute guy with glasses.
The stranger spoke, "Whoa! You almost fell there. Are you okay?"
You couldn't help but give a warm smile to him.
"I'm alright, thank you. I guess the not-so-fun parts of carrying a baby are starting to bully me."
Before you could speak up, he took the stack of books in your hand and held them on one side of his arm.
"If you need to step away for a second, I can hold these for you! Or even shelve them for you. Even though I don't work here, I don't mind doing some free labor if it makes you feel better!"
Your eyebrow quirked up at his odd yet kind remarks. He was sweet. A little dorky, but sweet nonetheless.
He was nice to look at, too, but you pushed that thought aside.
"That's very sweet of you, but no need. I'm off soon anyway, I think I just need to eat something greasy and unhealthy," you replied with a smile.
Adrian's mouth opened to respond to you until he took notice of your work lanyard that had your name. Along with a bunch of pins. He didn't think he was ever capable of developing a crush, but here he was.
Your lanyard was covered in various fandom pins that many would definitely deem as nerdy. From a Pokémon pin to a DnD pin, to a Star Wars pin, and more.
Typically, he would never dare ask a girl to hang out. Especially one with a face like yours. (He knew you were clearly and painfully out of his league). But your interests being exactly like his had him wanting to be around you more.
"Would you like to grab some food when you get off work? I have multiple food places we could choose from where the food is just greasy as fuck… but tasty, of course!"
You let out a chuckle as a surprised smile lit up on your face.
This is how you ended up inside a questionable-looking burger joint, sitting at a table with the stranger from the bookstore.
You both were devouring food, you practically scarfing down a double cheeseburger that had way too many pickles on it.
"You know, you never told me what your name was. Which is unfair since you saw mine on my nametag," you hummed as you stole a fry from the basket you two were sharing.
As if a light bulb went off in his head, a dorky smile appeared on his face before he spoke. "Guess it! I'll give you a hint, though, because we are friends now. It starts with an A and ends with an N. You'll never guess it!"
His bright smile disappeared in an instant, a small pout taking over his lips, which made you giggle.
"How the fuck did you guess it so quickly?!"
Your shoulders gave a small shrug as you took a sip of your lemonade.
"It was either that or Allen; those were the only two names that popped up in my head. Allen's tend to be ugly, so I figured you're an Adrian," you sweetly spoke, which made his smile come back.
"Are you saying you came to the conclusion my name isn't Allen because they are ugly and I'm not?"
"Oh, hush, you know you're easy on the eyes," you sincerely replied, which made his eyes bug out of his head.
After this day, it became a recurring thing where the two of you would go out to eat after your work shift.
You learned a lot about him, and he learned a lot about you.
The most recent outing you two had resulted in him giving you his phone number. According to him, he wanted to "be a good friend you can reach out to for any pregnancy needs." This gesture tugged at your heartstrings, which you completely ignored and deemed a factor of your now haywire emotions.
Not to your knowledge, Adrian had really been enjoying his time with you.
Your friendship felt different from his friendships with any of the 11th Street Kids. He wondered why he had the urge to just be there for you a lot. I mean, sure, he was always at Chris's side whenever he'd reach out for something. But with you, he would drop absolutely everything if needed.
Two things were certain. Adrian knew for sure he had feelings for you. And you had a feeling he was the masked man who saved you. Vigilante.
About a week ago, Adrian went to the store for you. Unfortunately, month three of carrying a child was basically like month two. Only the effects of nausea, dizziness, and morning sickness were more prominent.
It was a Sunday morning, and you were off work. He planned on coming over anyway, but after you sent him a text saying the effects were really taking a toll on you, he did a pit stop at a store nearby.
You left your door unlocked for him, which he thought was absolutely irresponsible, but it was the morning, so he let it slide. He walked into your apartment and noticed you in pjs, plopped on the couch.
"Okay, so I did some research on things that would make you feel better! I got some salty ass crackers that won't upset your stomach, along with some Sprite. I also got like three different types of anti-nausea pills, so we can see which works the best. Also, I read somewhere that pregnant women like heat for some reason, so I got you one of those microwaveable plush animals to cuddle!"
Once he stopped speaking, he noticed your strong gaze on him, making him feel a bit shy out of nowhere as he gave you a small smile. He was shocked when you got up from the couch, speed walking over, and throwing your arms around his shoulders as you hugged him.
"This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me," you spoke with small sniffles.
"Well, I see you're in the easily emotional stage," he teased as his arms gently wrapped around you a few seconds later to hug you. He winched once he did the motion, causing you to pull back as he clutched his right side. You frowned, "Are you okay?"
He let out a small 'duh' as he brushed it off, even though you could tell something was up. That's when it clicked.
The other day, your coworker told you how her roommate had a run-in with Vigilante. She told you how her roommate was almost robbed when getting into their car, but the masked man came and saved the day. She mentioned how, in the process, the robber did manage to stab Vigilante once in the side, before finally being taken down.
You kept the information to yourself. Until today.
It was nighttime as you waited for Adrian to head over. You both planned a movie night at your place, which is where you planned on interrogating him.
You had no idea how you'd go about it, brainstorming ideas for ages until he knocked on your door.
"You're Vigilante, aren't you!"
A small gasp escaped your lips as you slammed your hand on your mouth. This was certainly not how you planned on answering the door.
His eyes widened, his mouth trying to come up with words to say before he scoffed and walked into your apartment.
"No! What?! You're crazy. I don't even know who he is. Or she! We don't know! And we probably never will!"
After shutting your door, you walked over to where he stood, standing in front of him with your arms folded.
His eyes widened, his mouth dropping as his eyebrows furrowed.
"W-What for?" He stumbled over his words.
"Because you're him," you claimed as you pointed your finger at him.
He let out another scoff followed by a suspicious laugh.
"I am not—" he began to speak until you decided to poke his side. He immediately yelped, causing both of your eyes to widen as you quickly raised his shirt a little by the hem.
It was right there when you saw a bandage on his side. You looked up at him with a shocked expression as he let out a sigh.
"Yes, I'm him," he muttered sadly.
You could have reacted in a million different ways. Adrian was terrified you were going to have a problem with the fact that he had killed people. But that wasn't the case at all.
"Why'd you come to my work a month later as… well… Adrian?"
He gave you a small shrug, his eyes looking down at the floor with the occasional glance towards you.
"No one was looking after you, so I guess I wanted to be the one. I also just wanted to get to know you… But all in good will! Nothing with ill intent. Yes, I beat the shit out of criminals, but I have my morals!"
You couldn't help but chuckle at his answer. He felt his nervousness lessen when he noticed a reassuring smile on your face that was directed at him.
A flutter feeling grew in your stomach. That scared you. Bad. You knew what that meant, but you were trying oh so hard to push that down. Those feelings.
Without thinking, you stood on your tiptoes for a quick second to place a quick and gentle kiss on his cheek.
"Thanks for weaseling your way into my life, Adrian." Your gentle tone sounded like music to his ears. The most adorable yet goofy grin showed on his face. You could have sworn you saw a light flush on his cheeks, but you didn't think about it any further.
If you could devour a tower of the most unhealthy foods, you would.
Most of your effects from the pregnancy started to ease each day, which you were incredibly grateful for. The morning sickness alone made you think why you were ever born. One thing was for certain, though.
The pregnancy cravings happily continued.
It was currently one in the morning. You made the mistake of taking a fat nap during the day, which caused you to be awake at night. You were in the middle of texting Adrian, as he was currently out on the streets as Vigilante, probably killing people with a smile on his face.
He kept complaining how slow of a night it was, resulting in you texting him animal facts to quiz him. That lasted a whole ten minutes before you realized that man doesn't know much, but it's adorable how hard he tries.
Luckily, you were able to easily convince him to grab some food for the two of you and head over. He ended up bringing a whole pepperoni pizza for the two of you. When you first saw it, you weren't sure you'd finish, but the pregnancy craving kicked in and you were certain it would be gone soon.
The two of you sat on your couch, you in your loose pjs and he still in his suit without his mask. After devouring multiple pizza slices, all you two did was sit and yap about all sorts of things while the TV was faint in the background. This is when he finally told you about the 11th Street Kids.
For a while, he kept most of his Vij stuff to himself. He was afraid to either overwhelm you or scare you, which neither was true. He found it adorable how immersed you were in his retelling of the whole Project Butterfly mission.
"Hopefully, you get to live your dream one day of taking someone down with a chainsaw," you said jokingly, even though you knew how badly he wanted to.
"Eh, I can put that dream on the back burner for a while. I have way more important shit now! Like you," he said so nonchalantly.
He didn't realize how quiet the room got until he looked away from the TV and at you. You had a look on your face that he couldn't read. To be fair, he was never the best at reading anyone's emotions, but he felt pride in always being able to clock yours.
"You can't just say things like that," you spoke quietly with a soft chuckle. You looked down at your lap, fiddling with the hem of your shirt.
"What? It's true, though! One of my dreams now is to ensure you and that baby in the oven are safe and happy. Anyway, I've been waiting years to fuck someone up with a chainsaw, I can wait longer!"
He looked directly at you as he spoke, causing you to smile back at his smile, which he had already shot at you. Your eyes slowly wandered over his entire face, looking at his pretty features.
He grew shy, that flutter feeling in his stomach arriving once again. He couldn't help but let his eyes flash down towards your lips and back up to his eyes.
Your breath hitched at the scene. Before you knew it, your eyes did the same trail.
From his eyes to his lips, then back up to his eyes. Your body moved on its own, leaning closer, which you noticed he reciprocated. He stopped when there was the smallest gap between you two.
"Can I—" Adrian, being the consent king that he is, was going to ask if he could kiss you. You knew that question was coming, which is why you immediately stood up and let out a nervous breath.
"I-It's getting kinda late. I'm a bit tired, so I'm gonna head to bed."
A small smile of clear disappointment grew on his face as he mimicked you, standing upright in front of you. Before he started to wish you goodnight, his eyes caught the tiny bump that showed under your loose pajama shirt.
"Wait, you're starting to show now!" Adrian got all giddy as he laid his palm gently against your stomach over the shirt. His eyes were on it, a dorky smile on his face, as you were too busy with your eyes locked on his face.
"Why do you have to treat me so well?" You asked yourself in your head.
"It's so hard not to love you."
After that night where you two almost kissed, you'd be lying if you said you didn't distance yourself a bit from Adrian.
Which he noticed very quickly.
You two still texted frequently, but when he tried to plan to come over to your apartment, you made a bunch of excuses.
He knew he wasn't well knowledgeable about pregnancy, but he knew there was no way you had a million doctor's appointments each week.
At the moment, he was hanging out with the 11th Street Kids. The whole team clocked how quiet he was being, which was incredibly odd for him.
Adebayo and Harcourt shared a knowing glance at each other.
Adrian had no problem mentioning his 'absolutely gorgeous' friend to the team. They all felt like they knew a shit ton about her due to how much he talked about her. The women of the group easily knew he had feelings for her, but of course, didn't act on them.
"Earth to Adriannnn," Adebayo sang as she walked over and took a seat beside him. All he did was turn his head and look at her, a dorky frown on his face, which made her chuckle.
All it took was one simple question for him to yap her ear off.
"You know my very pregnant, very funny, very beautiful friend I told you guys about? Well, last month we almost kissed. And yes, you fucking heard that right. KISSED! But at the last second, she pulled back. And now she's been distant, and I haven't seen her in weeks, so now I feel like a bird whose wings have been clipped!"
Adebayo's eyes widened at his entire retelling. She couldn't help but smile to herself. She hasn't seen Adrian this far up someone's ass since, well, Chris. But in this situation, it was sweet how much he clearly cared for this girl.
"Have you tried just walking up to her door and asking her what's up? Sounds like she might be the type to hide her thoughts until someone rips them out of her. Like that one over there," she chuckled as she tilted her head in the direction of Harcourt.
The blonde heard this, a small smirk on her face as she flipped the two off. Adrian smiled as he looked down at his phone, debating on taking Adebayo's advice.
"Fuck it, I'm going!" Adrian stood up and waved at everyone quickly before heading towards your apartment.
You sat in your bed reading a book, barely able to focus because your mind kept constantly thinking of Adrian. You had gotten so used to how often you'd see him in a week that it felt odd to not see him at all.
While you were attempting to actually take in what you were reading, a loud three knocks at your door startled you.
You looked through the peephole, seeing Adrian standing there, which immediately made you nervous. You opened the door slowly, opening it to the point that all he could see was your body, but not the rest of your apartment.
You felt a small pain in your chest. He looked cute, and defeated, but mainly cute. You gave a timid smile, nodding your head as you let him in.
He stood in your living room, a good gap between you two as you stood with your back against the front door you had just closed. The two of you stood there for what felt like ages, until he let out a high-pitched groan.
"Okay, can you please tell me what's going on with you? I have missed you so fucking much, it hurts. Literally! My brain gets bored so easily when I'm not with you. Also, I've been wondering how you and the baby have been feeling. Since you know, all we have been doing is texting!"
Your mouth opened to speak, but no words came out.
Well, you couldn't lie. You felt your heart flip when he mentioned how much he missed you. You felt the same way. It was as if you could breathe easier when he was around.
You let out a sigh as you crossed your arms. "Things just… changed. I don't know."
You watched as his face dropped, a small frown and look of guilt written all over him.
"I'm sorry I asked to kiss you. I read the entire situation very wrong, and that is all my fault, I—" It pained you to hear him apologize.
You cut him off, "Adrian, I wanted to kiss you."
His face held a shocked expression, his eyebrows raised. "Oh!"
You couldn't help but feel your lips be pulled into a smile, until your thoughts raced again as you shook your head. "I just, I don't know. I don't want to feel the way I feel. It's scary as hell and I don't like it."
Adrian gave a small shrug as he looked at you, "How do you feel?"
"I feel like I wanna be near you, a lot. But, not like friends…"
You watched as your words made a huge smile light up on his face. He let out an excited laugh, walking over to you and grabbing your hands in his as he smiled.
"Well, fuck! This is great! You have no idea how long I've had feelings for you. Honestly, probably since like the day we met, which of course is fast, yeah, but I never thought you'd feel the same!"
You wanted to feel happy at his reciprocated feelings, but you couldn't bring yourself to celebrate. You pulled your hands away from his gently, both of your hands dropping to your sides.
"I'm sorry, Adrian, but friends are what we will continue to be. I can't."
His face fell, a look of confusion mixed with a hint of sadness. "I don't really understand. We get along so well. You like all the same nerdy shit that I do. We could just sit and talk for hours. If you feel the same, then why not?"
You felt tears threaten your eyes as you spoke softly, "Adrian, do you understand how hard it is to believe you? I think any pregnant, single woman would feel it's too good to be true that a guy is just going to come into her life and care not only for her but for a child who isn't theirs!"
Adrian just stared at her as she let out all her thoughts. It saddened him to hear her fears. He tried not to take it to heart too much, but it was a bit hard.
"Do you not trust me? Like when I tell you I have feelings for you, do you not believe me?" he asked quietly.
"No, I do. I do. It's just hard to really get it through my head that you want to be here."
Adrian let out a scoff, a hysterical smile on his face as he shook his head. "Was it not clear when I constantly took you out to eat? Or brought you food and medicine late at night? To be fair, I thought you knew pretty early on in our friendship how fucking in love I am with you. I'm like a little lovesick puppy constantly biting at your ankle for attention!"
Your eyes widened at his reply. A few seconds later, he quickly knew which part of his speech you were most shocked at.
"D-Did I say love?! I meant I'm in love with our friendship! Clearly. I mean, do I like you? Yes! But I love our friendship—"
"Adrian. Do you love me?" You asked him softly.
He mentally cursed in his head. And then screamed. Then slapped himself to gain the courage to answer.
"I do. Yeah, I fucking love you," he spoke quickly.
A small gasp fell from your lips, your hand flying to your stomach. You could have sworn the baby kicked.
"What's wrong? Are you okay? Are you gonna throw up again? I'll hold your hair!" Adrian uttered.
You took his hand, laying it flat against your belly as he gave you a confused look. He was about to question you until he felt the small flutter of a gentle kick. His eyes snapped to your belly, a shocked expression on his face, until he looked up and locked eyes with you.
You both had the brightest smiles on your faces, as surprised laughter filled the air.
"I love you too, Adrian," you said to him sweetly. His eyes bugged out of his head, a dorky grin on his face as he wrapped his arms around your waist and spun you around, hugging you.
You laughed, wrapping your arms around his shoulders as he set you down gently seconds later. His arms stayed at your waist, his hands gently gripping them as your fingers ran through the back of his hair.
"Can I kiss you now? Please?"
Without answering him, you pulled him down to meet you halfway. His lips met yours passionately, a surprised expression on Adrian's face at first, until he melted into the kiss.
One of his hands from your waist came up to cup your face, his thumb gently rubbing your cheek as you continued to run your fingers through his hair. After a few minutes, you both pulled back to ensure no one was going to pass out from lack of oxygen.
Your foreheads pressed together as you both caught your breath. He looked at you with an adorable smile as he spoke.
"Does this mean I can help you think of baby names?"
You knew some women dealt with body image issues, but you didn't expect it to hit as hard as it did.
A lot of your clothes started not to fit you anymore. Now, you practically live in pajamas.
When Adrian came over on a Thursday afternoon, he opened your door to see you on the couch with a fluffy white blanket completely covering you from head to toe. Your head was the only thing poking out of it.
"Baby, where are you?! There's a polar bear in your living room!" he teased.
You scoffed, a frown on your face as you succumbed to the blanket around you. You hid your face, hearing his footsteps walk over to you.
He stood there, unraveling you from the blanket that trapped you. He couldn't help but smile once he saw your pretty face that held a frown.
"I'm about the size of a polar bear. Gross," you complained.
"Polar bears are cute as fuck! Also, you got the pregnancy glow. I bet you if we go out in public, you'd get a lot of people gawking over you."
You couldn't help but smile at his words as you rolled your eyes.
To be fair, you hadn't left your apartment in a while, unless it was to go to the grocery store for necessities.
You turn your head around to look out the window, noticing how pretty the sky looks at the moment. You let out a small sigh as you felt the couch dip next to you.
"How about you go change and I treat you to that ice cream stand you're obsessed with that's at the park?" Adrian spoke sweetly.
Your eyes look over at him, an adorable and pleading grin on his face as you chuckled.
You stood up slowly and dramatically, "Fine. Let me go try to put on clothes that don't make me look like a whale."
"You're fucking beautiful and you're carrying a life in you, be nice!" You laughed at his comment.
The only thing that seemed to catch your eye was a pretty sundress that surprisingly looked both comfortable and stretchy.
You slid the floral sundress on, a small smile on your face when you looked in the mirror, and couldn't help but smile at the way the bump looked. You felt pretty.
Adrian sat on your couch, humming to himself as he waited for you. When he heard your footsteps, he turned to look at you and felt like his eyes were practically falling out of his head.
"God, if you think you look bad, I think I might have to take you to an eye doctor. Genuinely! You're so beautiful, it's sick," Adrian stated, making you laugh as he came up to you and snaked his arms around your waist.
"Now, let's get you an ice cream and see how many random people talk to you."
You hated that he was right…
To be fair, you saw it happen all the time in public, even before you were pregnant.
Strangers love to either compliment a pregnant woman or ask her questions about her pregnancy.
Oh my gosh! How long are you?
That pregnancy glow looks amazing on you.
Awe! Are you having a boy or a girl?
You and Adrian were stumped at the gender question. Your heads snapped to each other immediately when asked.
Back at your apartment, you started pacing in your living room as Adrian watched from the couch.
"I've gone to my doctor multiple times, and that fucker never asked if I wanted to know the gender!" you complained.
"This is why male doctors can't be trusted. They're pretty dumb," Adrian hummed as he nodded his head in certainty.
This is how you ended up leaving a voicemail for the doctor's office. Your appointment wasn't for another week, and they were fully booked, so you told them to please call you back with the gender of the baby.
Adrian slept over that day, and the two of you cuddled in bed together.
The moon took over the night, and before you knew it, morning had come to greet you
As well as the sound of a phone ringing.
You let out a small yawn, your eyes opening to see Adrian shifting next to you. He leaned over you, grabbing your phone and handing it to you as you uttered a small 'thank you.'
You answered it tiredly until you realized it was the doctor. Your eyes lit up as you sat straight in bed, Adrian doing the same right after as he saw your facial expression.
"Thank you for letting me know! Bye," you said before hanging up the phone and looking at Adrian.
"He said we're having a girl."
A huge smile lit up on Adrian's face. He attacked you with a hug, which made you both fall flat onto the bed. Your back was against the mattress as he hovered over you.
"She's gonna be a mini you! That's so fucking cute," he gleefully said as he placed a bunch of kisses on your face.
Your entire apartment was getting redone. By whom, you may ask? Adrian.
At one of your most recent doctor's appointments, you were being told of all the things you should be doing at this very moment.
You already had a bunch of baby necessities, for example, the crib that Adrian built, which was in the corner of your room.
However, the doctor mentioned baby proofing the place, and now here Adrian was. Baby proofing.
You heard him call you from your kitchen. You walked over, seeing him and all the low cabinets he put locks on.
He huffed, "Try opening it."
You looked at him oddly before attempting. And that's all it was… an attempt.
It took both you and him a good ten minutes before finding a 'good' way to open the cabinets with locks.
"If we can barely get into it ourselves, I doubt the baby will. She'll need a crowbar for it," you sighed, blowing air at the piece of hair that fell on your face.
You felt him come up behind you and wrap his arms around you. You smiled, leaning back as he kissed the side of your head.
"You know, if she's as smart as you, which she definitely fucking will be, she's going to rip that shit open. I bet all the baby proofing I'm doing won't even affect her! She'll find a way, babies are crazy," he stated.
You laughed, shaking your head as you turned around to face him. Your arms hung over his shoulders as you looked at him with a smile.
"Random thought… but have you ever thought about moving in?"
His eyes widened at your comment, followed by a huge grin plastered on his face.
"Have I thought about it? I mean, I already pretend in my head like this is our place. I waltz in here like it is. Even though I know it's not, but I mean if you're asking if I ever thought about it, well, duh!"
You let out a small laugh, gazing at him until you realize something.
"We never established what we are, huh?"
His eyebrows furrowed as he spoke, "Like… boyfriend and girlfriend?"
You nodded your head as you pursed your lips.
"Oh! Well, to be fair, in my odd mind, I always assumed you were mine," he admitted, which made you smile.
"I don't mind saying we've been together for the past seven months, then. We are an unusual couple, you know. But I love it."
Your comment made his heart jump, until a small frown appeared on his face.
"I feel bad, though. I never did formally ask if I can be your boyfriend."
That made your stomach flutter. You found it so cute that he worded it as 'if I can be your boyfriend' and not 'if you want to be my girlfriend.'
You placed a small kiss on his lips, which he immediately kissed back. His hands gently rubbed your sides as you shared a slow yet affectionate kiss.
"Don't feel bad. I like our way better. We said I love you before even clarifying we were dating. That's romance!" you teased.
He looked at you with a sweet smile before attacking you with kisses.
You were a month away from having your baby girl enter this world.
A bag for the hospital was all set and ready by the foot of your bed.
At this point, you were so incredibly excited to have this baby come out.
Each month brought a new situation to your and Adrian's attention. But month eight felt like it was just a waiting game. Which you hated.
You had a ton of restless nights, not being able to sleep. This resulted in you and Adrian just yapping the night away about everything.
You talked about movies, animals, babies, the future, and more.
When the topic of the 11th Street Kids came up, you couldn't help but feel guilty.
Adrian had spent a shit ton of time with you these past months. Sometimes he'd get a text or phone call regarding a mission with the team, which he would turn down.
You knew no one had hard feelings. You actually had the chance to talk to them over the phone occasionally when they'd call to ask Adrian if he wanted in.
Adebayo was your favorite, but you genuinely couldn't wait till this baby was out of you so you could meet them all in person.
While you two were talking, you saw how his face lit up regarding him and the group. It made you smile seeing how happy he was.
"Adrian, the next time they reach out with a mission, please say yes," you said as the two of you lay on your sides in bed.
His face grew confused, "Why?"
"I see how happy that life makes you. I just feel bad that you've turned them down repeatedly. I wish you had said yes at some point. You have a life too, Ade," you spoke sweetly as you ran your fingers through his hair.
"But, you're my life now—" he began to speak, which you had to admit, the comment made your heart warm.
"This world is big enough for me, you, this baby, and whatever interests and endeavors that we have. Okay?"
Your hand cupped his cheek, his head turning and placing a kiss on your palm as he nodded his head.
"Fine, fine. Only because I love you and I know that if I turn them down again, you'll probably kill me. Which I'd be okay with," he teased. But he definitely meant it.
You two eventually fell asleep an hour later. You were curled up in a ball with him behind your back, his arm around your waist as your fingers intertwined with his.
Adrian was currently with the 11th Street Kids…
As soon as the ninth month rolled around, you deemed yourself one of the women who tend to have a long childbirth. Most women you knew gave birth immediately as month nine rolled around. You were already three weeks in. Then it finally happened.
You had a mental battle with yourself, listing the pros and cons of calling him or not calling him.
To be fair, up until nine months ago, you knew you were going to deliver this baby alone. Until Adrian waddled into your life. You had no problem with that then or now.
You genuinely felt so happy for him when the team reached out again.
He tried so hard to politely fight you on declining, because he wanted to. Badly. It felt too close for him to just up and leave, but you told him he should be happy the mission would keep him within the area, not like he would be going a million miles away.
Now here you were, in a pretty nice hospital in a pretty nice-looking room, where you were having contractions for the past few hours.
The doctor and nurses introduced themselves ages ago, and you felt very safe and comfortable.
After what felt like hours of contractions and no movement, the doctor informed you it was time to push.
It was a grueling process. You honestly couldn't believe that some people pop out a bunch of kids. The pain was like no other, and really, you applauded that the human body is capable of something like this.
After what felt like years of pushing, your baby girl was out before you knew it.
You always saw it in movies. The moment when a mother locks eyes with their newborn. It always seemed so dramatic, but now you knew it wasn't. You felt your heart swell, and you couldn't believe your eyes. You absolutely couldn't wait until you could go home with your baby.
The doctors gave you your own private room after. They currently have your baby in another room, performing the needed checks to ensure your newborn is happy and healthy. That's when you decided to call Adrian. "Hey, baby… You'll never guess where I am!"
The door to your hospital room slammed open about an hour and a half later.
"Genuinely, what the fuck!" Adrian shrieked, throwing you off when he came over to you and immediately threw his arms around you. He began to place kisses all over your face and head.
"You can hate me forever, that's fine, but I don't regret it! You never would have said yes to the team otherwise. You know that!" You exclaimed.
He pushed your hair behind your ear, a small and loving smile on his face as he sighed.
"As offended as I was when you called and told me you just pushed a fucking baby out of you, it's really sweet you cared that much about me. Don't think anyone has ever cared that much about me and what I do," he admitted softly.
You gave him a loving smile, pulling him down gently by his neck as you gave a gentle kiss.
"I can't lie, I'm kinda glad you weren't here. I probably looked very unattractive while pushing… Plus, we have yet to see each other in that way, so I did not want that to be the first time," you stated sternly as you scrunched your nose at the thought.
Adrian rolled his eyes at you with much sass. "You could wear a potato sack and I'd still find you beautiful. Also, don't even get me started on how many times I've pictured you naked. Fuck!"
You let out a laugh as you wacked his arm, shaking your head at his words as he grinned at you teasingly.
A knock at the door startled you two.
You both look over and see that the doctor is carrying your baby. Your eyes immediately look up at Adrian since this was his first time seeing her. Your heart practically melted at the gentle and speechless look he had on his face.
The doctor attempted to hand her off to you, but you darted your eyes to Adrian to signal to give the baby to him.
As the doctor handed the baby to him, he immediately cradled it gently.
You were shocked at how well he was at carrying a newborn. Most people don't even hold their heads up. At this point, though, you aren't shocked when Adrian randomly shows how good he is at something so random.
The doctor headed out, giving you two spaces as you couldn't help but stare at Adrian, who had such a heartfelt grin on his face.
You scoot over in the bed, patting the side so he can take a seat beside you with the baby. You leaned your head against his arm as you both looked at the adorable sleeping baby.
"Did we decide on Y/D/N? Because you knew that one was my favorite."
You chuckled at Adrian's comment, nodding your head. "That was my favorite, too, Ade. So, yes."
He turned his head, and you felt his gaze on you. You met his eyes, noticing him smile and leaning down while gazing at your lips. You met him halfway as he placed a slow and loving kiss upon your lips.
As you pulled back, he touched his forehead to yours.
"Next baby we have, I will fricking be there, no matter what you say."
Your heart fluttered at him, even already thinking about 'another' baby. You also chuckled at the fact that he censored himself with the newborn present.
You gave him a warm smile and nodded your head.
