echo thought for a moment. “why did you want to see the body anyway?” he asked. “it was pretty gruesome.” truthfully he wasn’t all that upset. echo cared mostly about nailing the right person for the crimes. some person sneaking into the morgue just for shits and giggles wasn’t high up on his list of priorities. but since there was a slim chance this might cause trouble for him later it would be best to make sure that nothing had been tampered with.
she had been conflicted on whether the truth or some scrambled lie was needed. she shrugged her shoulders deciding on giving him the truth just hoping he wouldn’t tell her father about her mischievous ways, “just to be sure that the wounds matched the first victim, which would prove my theory for my article that we’re dealing with the same murderer.” she explained.
she laughed at that and said, “really? you expect me to believe that? nobody is that good of a person. nobody.” nix’s anger rose in a fresh wave again when she kept prying, and she took a couple steps closer, a glare plastered on her face. “is your skull three inches thick? did i not make myself clear that i’m not giving you shit about him?”
“you’d be surprised on how much of a good person I am.” she managed to stand her ground even when her body shivered with fear from the other aroma, she was stubborn and wasn’t going to let this go. “why not, wouldn’t you want people to know that he’s more than just a body in the morgue?”

“she burned too bright for this world.”
“so the kid that died. —- what exactly happened to him?”
" he was found in a ditch by some locals, well that’s what being said so far. the story changes everyday. “
“you’re not sorry at all, so let’s not pretend like you are. you’re just like every other scummy journalist – you want your big story so you can get that shiny promotion or whatever the fuck else.” nix narrowed her eyes at the woman, seeing right past her innocent question. “i’m not telling you shit. if you really want to waste your time writing about this, you can go on and find a different source for all of your gossip.”
“just so you know, i’m writing this article for any sort of promotion, i’m an intern.. i don’t even get paid for this. so, i’m doing this because i want to make change in this city.” it was like she was pulling this out of an ultimate sad film, everything that came out of her mouth had been bullshit. she did this for the excitement & thrill, not for the city. “you’re the only person that knows him, was he your brother or boyfriend? just give me something.”
echo’s eyebrows rose slightly. “y’know i’m a cop right?” he asked, slightly amused by this situation. technically people weren’t supposed to see the corpse, but echo was willing to let it go so long as nothing was compromised. “i just hope that you didn’t touch him because then my job gets twenty times harder.”
she smiled innocently, she had to deal with cops almost everyday so she knew how to talk her way out of it if she had to. “promise you that i didn’t touch anything, just observed.. wouldn’t want to make your job any tougher than it is” she nodded along with her words, “i mean, you are the one making our streets safer each day.”
nix shook her head and laughed once, but it was devoid of any humor. “yeah, you could say that.” he hadn’t been much, just a rookie that was only barely starting out in the 212, but ever since she’d become adrian’s second every single member had become more important to her. “he didn’t get murdered just so you could have the luxury of having the cool experience of getting to look at his damn corpse.”
this had certainly peeked her interest, her head nodded as she knew that viewing his body was wrong except she had to know how identical it was to the previous murder. “how’d you know him?” she knew that the boy was apart of a gang though she didn’t know any other details besides that, though she figured this could of been great source from the stranger. “well.. i’m sorry.. i’m just writing this article on his murder so it was great evidence by seeing the body for myself had to be sure that the wounds had been the same as the previous murder.”
“That’s - so messed up. Why does it even matter to you, anyway?” He frowned, crossing his arms across his chest.
"Usually when death occurs then you’re suppose to care, right?”
she rolled her eyes, clenching her fists at the mention of a body. “i’m so fucking happy for you, let me tell you,” she said viciously. “in case you were wondering, ‘the boy who was murdered’ has a fucking name, and it’s lucas.”
"lucas, lucas winters yeah, i know that. his name was released to the public except that was all that’s being said about the death.” she tilted her head, noticing that the girl was hostile towards the subject which made her question. “what, did you know him?”
“well, at least corpse don’t kiss and tell. right? an article? what about? let me guess, the governor is running for reelection but was involved with insider trading.”
“wish that they could, it’d of been nice to know about what he had to say.” she shrugged before slowly shaking her head, “no, no something much more interesting than that trying to piece together the mysterious murders that have been occurring. ”
her head continued to shake in fake disappointment. “that’s unfair and you know it. –you know they don’t think with their REAL head.”
“and what’s so wrong with taking advantage of that ??”
“ridiculously gross. interesting, but gross. so what —– ? are you into necrophilia?”
“you’ve surely caught me red handed.. kidding, it’s a joke that’s worst than flirting with old men to get keys. actually needed a primary source on an article i’m working on.”
clearing her throat, she gave her friend a look, before shaking her head. “HOW many times must i say this, jules?” her tone matching one of an owner punishing their dog. “we do not use manipulation, it is mean.”
“not my fault, it’s just SO EASY.” her shoulder shrugged along with her following words, “boys need to learn to not think with their second head.”
