"It’s a dragon, like everything else I create. If you were to walk into my art shed you would probably be overwhelmed by the number of dragons in there - it’s like a nest or some shit." he explained. "Perhaps if you can’t get your painting right you should just paint a dragon or something on it. In my personal opinion, and from previous experience, pretty much anything can look instantly better if you stick a dragon on it. Their whole majesticalness just sort does something to improve it. Do you get where I’m coming from? Or am I just talking out of my arse as usual?"

She laughed. “That actually sounds pretty cool… I mean dragons are great animals.” She smiled. “I’ll think about that. Thanks for the suggestion.” She smiled. “No you’re not talking out of your ass. Don’t worry.” She grinned. “Yeah dragons can spice up anything.”

"So, what do you think your next art projecty thing will be?" Harrison asked. "Do you only do painting? Do you draw? Or..." He fired questions at her, whilst finishing off the remaining blobs of ice cream in his cone. "Is it landscapes that you usually create?" He was desperate to avoid an awkward silence.

"I made it mostly with wire, but there’s a few other bits and bobs thrown in to help it keep its shape." Harrison told her, remembering the stress and annoyance he had had during the building process. "And I think I might need a few more tons of ice cream. It’s so good - probably the best I’ve ever eaten! You have to try the coconut one!" he exclaimed, thrusting the melting cone in poor Kara’s face. "Oh, and what are you painting? Is it that thing with the pink paint?" He continued to force the ice cream in the struggling girl’s face.

"That sounds really intresting!"She said. "What is it? Is it a person or a thing or is it really abstract and even you aren’t  sure what it is?” She asked before cringing. “Sorry I’m a bit nosy.”She laughed at his comment. “If you do end up getting some you’re paying this time. I think if I buy you ice-cream again I’ll be broke!” She pushed it away. “No thanks. I might get some another time though. “Yeah it was supposed to be a weird sunset thing but now it just looks awful. I’m might just end up finishing it and calling it abstract!”She said with a laugh.

"Yeah, I’ve been doing a lot of that too, although my Dad got fed up with it and started waking me up to do stuff." he said, slurping his ice cream. "Done a bit of art stuff, sketching and models. I finished that model that I bought that wire for, do you remember? I think I showed you. Or you saw me buying the wire at least… Anyway, I finished it and it’s sitting in my shed."

"Really?" She asked with a grin. "What’d you make with it?" She sighed quietly. "I’m still not done with my painting. It’s been sitting unfinished in my room for weeks now." She sighed. "Hopefully I’ll find some motivation soon." She licked her ice-cream. "So how do you like your forty tons of ice-cream?" She asked with a teasing grin.

This woman was sort of weird, Harrison thought to himself. She must be super good at reading body language or facial expressions or something. How could she even possibly have been able to tell that he didn’t really like Camomile?

"Okay…" He began. "Can I just have regular black tea? With milk and no sugar, please. Now, can I sit down? Please?"

Much better. “Yes, you may.” Aisa responded patiently, biting back the  immediate retort that was so classically Lachesis or Clotho: 'I don't know, can you?', and opting to order her own rosehip tea instead, as well as the boy’s second request. She stood by the counter as the fairly common teas were prepared and then approached as soon as she had them. 

"There. Now, are you feeling any better?" He was still shaking, but his breathing had at least slowed down a bit, so that was progress.

"Marginally, I suppose." he replied, trying to get his breathing somewhat more normal. He'd managed to wind himself slightly. He sipped his tea. He fidgeted a bit. He tried to avoid eye contact. Harrison was really the worst at interacting with anyone, especially if he didn't know them. "I'm really sorry, but I've forgotten your name. Also... Could you possibly explain what happened, please? I'm a bit lost."

"I hope their pizzas are really big. I’m starving." Harrison said, as they went inside and were led to a small table in a corner. The waitress handed them both a menu and skipped off into the back somewhere, leaving the two of them to decide.

"There’s so much choice! What do you think you’re going to get? I’m leaning towards a pizza, but the pasta sounds so good too!"

Ash chuckled. She liked a good pizza as much as the next girl, but it sounded like it was one of Harrison’s favorite foods. She found that unsurprising. “I’d say the same, but about the salads.”

She followed the hostess and Harrison to a small corner table. She slid into the seat opposite him and immediately picked up her menu, sticking her nose in it and scanning it way too closely. “Uh,” she said, only half listening as he asked about her food choice. She shook herself and smiled at him over the menu. “I think I’ll start with a caesar salad and then go for the cheese ravioli. It’s been so long since I had those!”

Harrison looked at her intently as she told him what she was planning on eating.

"That sounds like a good idea." he told her, sticking his nose back into his menu. "Hmmmm. I might just have a pepperoni pizza. And maybe garlic bread to start. Oh, do they do milkshakes? I could murder a milkshake."

He saw the waitress tottering back over towards them and glanced at Ashlyn. "Are we ready to order, do you think?"

"Um, I like ice cream." He stated, mouth covered in the stuff. "I think I can finish it. I get told off for eating the whole tub at home." 

They walked out of the shop, filling their faces. “Where are we going now?” Harrison asked. “I think we should sit down somewhere and eat them. Because that’s a nice sort of relaxing thing to do. Not because I’m a walking disaster and will inevitably bump into something or trip and have the whole thing fall on the floor.”

She laughed. “Sure, sitting down sounds good.” She took a seat at a bench next to the shop and patting the place next to her for him. “So what have you done this summer?” She asked. “Other than sleep I mean because that’s practically all I’ve been doing.”

The immortal moth, the eternal centipede, and the really huge undying spider that reside in my shed that I can't get rid of despite the amount insect spray I use to try and exterminate them.

Harrison was stood there absolutely agog. He had never seen so much ice cream and such a great variety of it in his life. It was bliss. He couldn’t make up his mind.

"Argh, there’s so much choice! Can’t I just have it all?" he was getting really excited. How had he...

Leaky Roof || Open

Harrison was sat inside his shed, when it began to rain, softly at first, then becoming heavier as the minutes passed. It wasn’t long before it started to completely bucket it down, but that didn’t matter to Harrison, as he had a nice cup of tea and a couple of biscuits and was perfectly nice and dry inside, working on a new drawing, putting emphasis on was dry. A couple of drops of water soon leaked onto his paper, ruining the watercolour pencil, much to Harrison’s annoyance. He looked up and noticed that of course, there was a leak. He couldn’t do anything without something like this happening.

He moved his drawing to a shelf, and then put his mug under the leak, to try and catch it. He’d have to go back into the house and find something to temporarily fix it. He got up and locked the door to try and keep more rain out, before running madly across the lawn to the house, and tried to open the back door, which to his surprise and dismay, was locked. He knocked a couple of times, before dashing round to the front and ringing the bell. Several times. His parents had clearly gone out without informing him, as they usually did. Still, that wasn’t a problem, as he had had his keys, putting emphasis on had had, as he’d only gone and bloody dropped them as he was running to the front door. And couldn’t find them when he looked. He collapsed in a soggy heap on the doorstep, wondering what on earth to do.

"I can’t wait!" he said, smiling from ear to ear. Harrison liked ice cream. A little too much. He was known for eating an entire tub in one sitting, which annoyed his parents greatly, as there wouldn’t be any for them. And that Harrison never seemed to put on any weight, despite the fact that he ate more than a hippopotamus (assuming hippos eat a lot, that is) and moved about as often as a sloth. "Maybe I’ll get four scoops and try a load of new ones!"

"Good plan. They also have this amazing chocolate one called French Silk which is one of my absolute favorites. It’s got a vanilla swirl in in and little chunks of chocolate and it’s divine! And I’m not usually one for chocolate ice-cream." She said with a grin as she led him inside. The bell chimed as they walked in announcing their presence. "Hi!" She said to the man behind the counter. "I’ll have a cone with French Silk and Strawberry." She looked to Harrison, waiting for him to make his order.

"Uh, yeah. We will." he stammered. Was there even another music shop in this tiny town? Where would he go for his piano stuff now? He shrugged off the thoughts and images of his father fuming about his stupid actions and changed the subject back to ice cream, which was much more interesting. "What sort of flavours do they serve? Do they serve interesting ones? I had a Smurf flavoured one when I was on holiday in Normandy a few years ago. It was bright blue!"

"Yeah, they have amazing flavors. I’ve always loved their strawberry but they have tons of other ones like mint-chocolate chip, moose tracks, rocky road and just about a billion more." She said with a grin.

  "Oh, I’m taking a year off. To work more on my art stuff. You know." Harrison told her. "I was originally going to go straight into uni, but I didn’t feel I was ready."

Harrison was immediately reminded of the horrendous arguments that had been necessary for his gap year, and grimaced as the scenes were played back to him.

"You’re going into the army, I heard. Right?" he asked her, trying to force his thoughts elsewhere, and being genuinely interested in what Ashlyn’s plans were. "That’s really cool. I wish I was able to do more athletics-y stuff without tripping up and falling everywhere."

Ash wasn’t really surprised by his answer. It seemed like something he would do. She couldn’t really imagine doing that since she had a constant need to be doing… something. It could be nice, though, too, she supposed.

"Yup, I’m going the army route," she confirmed. She shrugged at his compliment to her choice. "Yeah, I guess. It’s in the family. I guess that’s one of the main reasons I’m doing it." They arrived at the little Italian restaurant and she stopped outside. "Here it is!" she announced cheerfully. "Come on." She led the way inside.

Harrison sighed with relief when she reminded him that she was going to pay. How he had managed to forget what she had said in such a short amount of time baffled him a bit, but then again, he didn’t have a brilliant memory, and his mind and thoughts did go a bit crazy and disoriented when he was around Ashlyn. 

They walked on in silence for a bit, Harrison noticing a slightly concerned expression on Ashlyn’s face. It didn’t last long though, as she asked him about his grandma. 

"She’s nice. A bit odd, I suppose, but nice. She lives in the next villagey-town thing along, so we see each other quite often. Too often, sometimes."

"That must be nice," Ash replied. She didn’t really know her own grandmother. Then again, as far as she knew, most of her extended family lived far away. Or at least, too far to make it worth a visit in her parents’ opinion.

Ash’s brain raced for a new topic before things got too awkward. And knowing Harrison, if she didn’t think of something, they probably would.

"So what are you doing after the summer? I mean I know what the others are doing, but you never seemed to talk much about after graduation," she remarked. Yes, school was a safe topic. Besides it gave her the opportunity to satisfy her own curiosity a bit.

Harrison started panicking. He didn’t like it when strange people spoke to him, let alone shout at him. 

He stood up quickly, swearing a little under his breath, and grabbed Kara by the arm. He dragged her out of the shop, and marched down the street, trying to get away as quickly as possible. When they were a safe distance away he let go of her, leaving her to stumble around and find her footing.

"So, where’s the ice cream place?"

Kara was laughing as Harrison dragged her out. “Sorry!” She said, “Sorry, I just-” She took a breath. “I haven’t had that much fun on the piano in a while.” She smiled, her eyes twinkling. “Right. It’s this way.” She said, leaning him down the street. She glanced back again. “I guess we’re not going to be invited there anymore. I’ll have to find a new music store.”

Harrison’s brain felt like it was probably going to explode. He hoped that it wouldn’t though, as it would cover Ashlyn in teeny tiny bits of human spaghetti, and also quite definitely kill him in the process. Neither of which seemed very pleasant an idea, so he tried to calm himself and take a nice deep breath. 

"Bella Notte sounds good. Uh, I haven’t actually been there myself but uh, yeah. I’ve only ever been to Granny’s before, so change and all that." He positively spewed at Ashlyn. "I’m not too hungry, I ate way too much at my grandma’s, so uh, I probably won’t eat much, so don’t worry about paying for me." He fumbled around in his pockets and in the basket to make sure he actually had his wallet with him, but seemed to have left it behind at his grandma’s along with his phone. How useless of him.

"Actually scratch that, you’ll have to pay for me as I’ve forgotten my wallet. If you don’t mind. Uhm. Please?"

Ash laughed. “It seems you forgot that I already offered to pay,” she remarked. She turned back around to lead the way. “Come on! Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m starving.”

As soon as she wasn’t facing him anymore, she let the nervousness settle in. It wasn’t that she was nervous about eating lunch with Harrison. Far from it. There were certainly worse people to share a meal with. No, it was the risk that people might see them together and jump to the conclusion that they were on… oh gods be good, she couldn’t even think it. As much as she was willing to admit Harrison was a friend, she was not willing to venture into that territory. In an attempt to redirect her thoughts, she asked,

"So what’s your grandmother like? Don’t think I’ve ever seen her around before."

The two of them sat there for a minute or so, not saying a word, their focus only on the piano and the notes it was spewing out at a hundred miles per hour. The melody kept getting faster and faster, until it was at a point where if they had gone any faster then the piano itself probably would have exploded. Harrison, amidst the song that was being churned out heard a somewhat angry voice call out from somewhere in the room. He began slowing down, much to Kara’s delight, seeing as it might give her an opportunity to win this competition thing, but then nudged her when he was becoming worried about the mysterious shouting.

She smiled as he slowed down. She was winning. She pressed down on the keys harder, not conscious of anything but their rapid playing. She felt Harrison tap her and glanced around the room to see a man staring at them. 

"Um..hi?" She muttered a bit awkwardly.

"Hi?" He said in a sad impression of her voice (much too high and too whiny. Kara would never speak like that). "GET OUT!" He bellowed. "You’re disrupting the other customers!"

As they played the tune, he noticed that Kara was starting to go faster and faster, forcing to him to keep up. He glared at her, before he noticed that it had turned into some sort of competition. She was smiling somewhat slyly, going faster still and playing louder. He wasn’t going to let his fourteen years of vigorous piano lessons and exams go to waste. He wasn’t going to be defeated by Kara.

It was on.

She looked over at him, pressing the keys and smiling as she played vigorously. She hadn’t had this much fun in years. He seemed to be playing faster as if it was a competition.
