SEALPELT MITTENS
Reykjavík, Laugavegur 71
We have always been very conscious about utilizing all material and minimise any waste. When we make the Sealpelt, some cuttings are unavoidable but we have kept them handy. After almost 10 years of producing the Sealpelt we introduce the Seal Flipper Mittens. They come in one-size fits all and are available in four colour combinations like the Sealpelt. And are now avilable on our online store and at most of our retailers.
Paly Nordic: Conteporary Collected at Felleshus
Felleshus, Berlin
The Sealpelt was chosen to be part of the Contemporary Collected exhibition at the Play Nordic Festival at Felleshus, the Nordic Embassys in Berlin. Contemporary Collected is an exhibition concept curated by Katrin Greiling.
The selection at Felleshus highlights the strength of Nordic design, raging from one offs to mass-produced and limited edition items. Represented are both recognized Nordic design practices as well as young emerging talents, working in different design disciplines. Other typical daily life objects from each country accompany the selection. The selection of 100 objects from all five Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, includes both contemporary design and every day objects.
ENLIGHTEN ME - ONE DESIGN WEEK IN PLOVDIV
Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Vík got an interesting invitation to take part in a collaborative design project called Enlighten Me during the One Design week in Plovdiv Bulgaria, bringing in studios from Norway, Finland, Iceland and Sweden; Companyfrom Helsinki, Marte Froystad and Runa Klock from Oslo, John Astbury and Katja Pettersson from Stockholm, Vík Prjónsdóttir and Brynjar Sigurðarson from Reykjavík.
Brynhildur travelled to Plovdiv in Bulgaria on behalf of Vík and stayed there for two weeks working together with this great group of designers, getting inspired by the wonderful smells of Linden trees that filled the air, the local graft and all things Bulgarian. We are very grateful for this change to experience new places, working together with wonderful fellow designers and meeting the great people behind One Design Week in Bulgaria.
Enlighten me is not about light. This project is about educating and enlightening ourselves. It encapsulates our discussions, interviews and research of a Bulgarian thesaurus through senses not objects. Recontextualizing the common as new amongst layers of transition. Representing histories, the present and possible futures. Enlighten Me is a meeting place, a miscellany and our document.
IN PRODUCTION - EXHIBITION AT BOX LYNFABRIKKEN
Aarhus, Denmark
We are very happy and excited to be in Aarhus at the LYNfabrikken putting up the exhibition for the BOX gallery called IN PRODUCTION - a collaboration project with Theresa Himmer and Maibritt Borgen.
IN PRODUCTION a material collage printed on carpet.
The installation takes 19th century principles of spatial decoration as a jumping-off point to explore relations between technologies of production and production of subjects. Today, through the lens of late modernity, the aesthetic choices of the 19th century appear archaic; like leftover scraps from a time where social relations were ingrained in dust-ridden, musty, and excessively decorated interiors. IN PRODUCTION juxtaposes this domestic ideology with another product of the 19th century, psychoanalysis, and its quest to peel away the layers of repression that hide the human unconscious.
Maibritt Borgen, based in Brooklyn, New York, is a PhD candidate in the History of Art Department at Yale University. Theresa Himmer, based in Reykjavik and New York, is a visual artist and architect. The collaboration explores the intersection between spatial relations, design and aesthetic theory. The project began in the summer of 2012 and explores traditional techniques of production, taking Aarhus Possementfabrik, which used to be located where LYNfabrikken is today, as a starting point.

THE WARMEST BOOK COVER

You are all welcome! // Næsta laugardag, vetrardaginn fyrsta, verður gefin út bókin Stína Stórasæng eftir Lani Yamamoto. ELEY KISHIMOTO collaboration
Þjóðmenningarhús, Reykjavík
We are extreamly proud to present our collaboration with Eley Kishimoto. Since last summer we have been working together with Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto on the new seal. And now finally we are presenting the new Seal Pelt along with new products at our exhibition in the Culture House in Reykjavík during Design March 2013.
Mark and Wakako came to Iceland to take part in the opening and they gave a great lecture on their work as a part of the Design Talks lecture day during the Design March festival. We got the change to go for a little drive together to visit some waterfalls.
