“ please do not hate me, a choice had to be made. it was not an easy one but it is the one your parents would have wanted. ” it was a lie though, it had been easy to choose the children would be given a chance and not the parents. life would always pick children over adults when given a choice. but saying such thing would not make her look kinder in the eyes of children who had lost their parents and thus she didn’t say it.  

and this wasn’t something often done. to meddle in death’s affairs and keep people longer in her world, to give a second chance. second chances could always backfire. it certainly felt like this one was backfiring but who could blame children for acting out after the lossof both parents. “ now we must keep on going,  i have already arranged your way out of russia. ”

“ i do come down here sometimes, there’s no need to be so surprised by my presence. ” though one could count the amount of times she had spend in her brother’s realm on one hand so to speak. it wasn’t out of dislike that life stayed away but rather it was a matter of guarding her own heart: if she were to see anyone whom she had loved more than most and then had to leave them again, such thing would break her heart in the most terrible way.

she was not prepared to put herself through such torture.

“ do you think me foolish, brother, for my unwillingness to let go and yet almost never having the courage to keep with me what i truly love? ” she easily could. all it took was a kiss, an embrace and she wouldn’t have to let go of those most precious to her, the sources of absolute joy in her existence. perhaps it was cowardice, the fear of being hated when interfering with the natural ways of the universe, of taking away the thing that had been desired: an end to what she had provided.

it wasn’t uncommon, this terrible melancholy sprung from her reluctance to let go. letting go had never been her strongest suit and no doubt never would be.  “ what a fickle thing i must seem in the eyes of humans. ”
