The above clip is from the Gaiden Drama CD. Kenren and Tenpou talking just before attempting their escape. This, as far as we know, was their last moment together, just the two of them. The way Tenpou says Kenrenâs name is just⌠I have no words. (And his eyes are closed while he says it and does it get any more obvious??) Itâs a little different from the OVA version, more⌠everything. They say so much without really saying much. Seems like they always do. (My ship is showing, and I am not ashamed! :P) Tenpou: Kenren? Kenren: Hm? Tenpou: Do you remember? Kenren: You mean the first time I met you? Tenpou: To be honest, I donât remember much about that. Kenren: Thatâs because you were half-asleep at the time! All right, so if youâre not talking about that⌠then you mustâve been thinking about that time we took our men to the World Below for a yakiniku party. Tenpou: Ahaha. Yes, that did happen. At the time, I really hadnât thought that I would be expected to pay for everyone. It was for fifteen people, wasnât it? And you ate enough for three. And I couldnât write off the grill restaurant bill as an entertainment expense. Ah, it annoyed me again, now that I remembered it. Kenren: Hey, so what did you mean to say? Tenpou: What indeed? Kenren: Oh come now. Tenpou: âŚactually, anything is fine. As long as you remember. Kenren: Is it? Tenpou: Indeed, it is. I always wondered what Tenpou was actually thinking about, when he asked Kenren if he remembered. Because it sure as hell wasnât the yakiniku party. And then: âAnythingâs fine, as long as you remember.â They are so beyond canon. And why are they so good at breaking my heart again?
I wouldnât even know where to start talking about the feels, and I definitely wouldnât know where to stop, so Iâll just leave it at that.
âĽ
I will never not reblog this. âĄ
"Cho Gonou and Yi Lisou. There is always something about them I likeâ the twisted connection. I wish there were more of them though."
âŚmaybe I shouldâve taken this more seriously.

My...Isn't this decidedly...awkward? Hakkai raised his hand. One solitary index pointed at an angle that formed a forty-five degree to his slightly tilted head. It could almost be an attempt at a wave -- could -- if his hand wasn't too frozed in its place.
"Er...Hello."
Well hello, Cho Gonou.
Beyond the face, there's the voice: how could he ever forget? Beyond the face, there's also the scent of blood dripping red -- dripdripdripdrip -- and the sound of his own thumping heart as his gut was being twisted, inside out. Beyond the face, there is him. With his own bile rising in his mouth, Hakkai spatted out the name. The nature of hate lingered there; yet, his tone felt perceptibly calm.
Perhaps, if only he can bring himself to look beyond that face.
"...Yi sou."
He clenched his fist.
Gojyo was a little surprised that Hakkai was actually touching him. It happened every once in a while, but not as often as Gojyo leaned on his friends. It was nice to see, even if it was only every so often. Smiling at Hakkai, âIt would be an interesting job. Iâm sure that they would have rules against letting their employees flirting or drinking on the job.â
It would be interesting to try out, but he doubted that it would be any fun. Going out in the evening would lose its appeal in the end. It wasnât like he would be going out to have some fun; it would be going to work. And that was one word that he didnât like. It held way too much commitment for him. There was also the responsibility that it held. He didnât want that. It wasnât something that interested him. He was perfectly fine going out to the pub and playing cards. It was an easy way to live.
He guessed that he might find something that he would like to do, that would mean he would have to tie himself to some place. He wasnât about to do that. It would restrict what he could do with himself. He figured that he might try it at some point, but that wasnât going to be anytime soon.
His face went from smiling at his friend to confusion, âWhere are we going?â He didnât remember any plans of going anywhere. If it was mentioned while he was slightly drunk or if his attention had been wandering at the time, it was unlikely that he would remember anything about it. He would have agreed to something without even noticing it. Which Hakkai had done to him more than once before.
He had just come home from a night of drinking and Hakkai was still up and had suggested that they go over to Sanzoâs the next day. Gojyo had agreed to it and he regretted it in the morning, though he really didnât remember agreeing to it. He was hung over and he had to spend the day with the blonde and his pet monkey. It wasnât a fun day. He wondered if Hakkai had pulled that on him again or had he simply forgot.
It wasnât too hardâ touchingâ really, or interacting, to converse, pretend, and carry on as if all things in life have never so much changed. Take this moment for instances, wasnât it so, that Hakkai was performing all that was expected of him with such ease? The touching, while could be rare, hadnât been as difficult as it once was, and to this, Hakkai smiled.
He is getting better.
At the pretense, perhaps?
"You donât remember now, do you?" Serenely continuing, thought the brunette did allow a fine grain of exasperation to as well escape, Hakkai held up one of his arms, in betwixt slender digits the edge of his own yukata carefully caught. "Why we are wearing this in the first place?" He gave the piece of freely flowing magenta cloth a tiny shake. "A fair, tonight, Gyojo-san." Viridian irises were lifted, meeting his others. He added, amused.
"I thought the condition was to go, or considering my figurative puny arse kicked off the house.âÂ
It really was a sign of how much Gojyo trusted his friend. He hadnât even questioned the reason on why he had been given these clothes. He had just put them on as he was asked. He figured that he would be given a reason sooner or later. It wasnât like Hakkai to try and make a fool out of him. Or at the very least he hadnât thought he had given the brunette a reason to take some kind of revenge. So hearing that they were going to a fair, his spirits lifted.
âDoes this mean that I get the change to try and get you to drink some alcohol and make you socialise with people you normally wouldnât?â It was rare that they did anything outside of their small house together and even more so when it was Hakkaiâs suggestion. He would try to make the most of the opportunity that he had been given.
Hm...Maybe after all that had been said and done, the brunette was not entirely sure now as to where this blame -- their decision to go to the fair -- should be proficiently placed. Still, did it matter now? Hakkai had agreed, as had his red haired companion. With Gyojo around, he supposed, the green eyed youkai supposed it won't be too much a trifle.
It's not as if Hakkai would be hit on, though there had been known occasions that such happened. Nonetheless, red, when is placed in comparison with green, green often blended, like the juicy treats they earlier shared, you only ate its sandy offer and never the hard breaking shell. "I was thinking more about buying some groceries to last us our week, and perhaps a game or two for you?" At least to keep it from being too dull, and me, having to endure you complaint at the least. "Of course, we may get some drinks if that is what you really want.", he added with a smile. Hakkai handled his drinks well enough. Maybe he wouldn't mind socializing either, if that was what he really have to endure.
He chuckled. "Hn. Maybe I can convince the little miss from the Dango stall to give us something special this year, hm?"
âMy, my, I must confess I have never expected so many visitors. What may this humble servant be doing for you, hm?â Hakkai lifted his index, offering a pleasentary of a smile.
âHumble servant, hm? Â Is that what theyâre calling it these days.â Â But he nodded in a semblance of a courteous greeting.
âTrue humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself lessâŚthough I really must sayâŚâ With a hook of his knuckle and a cautious pull, Hakkai slipped the age-worn spectacle off. The reading to his front remained, at least for the moment, forgotten. ââŚwe really could do with more supplies, Sanzo. Iâve asked around and they said the next town is more than two days ride.â
âYou know how the others do.â
âSo take the card and get whatâs needed, Iâm not the errand boy. Â You know what to get.â Â He set the card down in front of the other before brushing past him on his way to a chair by itself. Â He was tired, and as per his usual, not in the mood for social niceties, not even with Hakkai, whom he got along with at least decently. Â He settled in the chair and lit a cigarette, glancing out the window. Â
âTwo days ride with those two.  Fun.âÂ
So it is to be a grouchy-I-am-in-no-mood-for-chat-and-the-niceties kind of day today, isn't it? Hakkai's smile remained unchanged regardless of the blonde's dry response. "I, on the contrary, was having other thought in mind." With a small chuckle, he shook his head. The book beneath his hand went to closure and the silver rimmed glasses slipped back on. Having tapped one dainty index twice across his reading's cover, Hakkai reached for the card the blonde's left to his front. "More than two days ride, Sanzo."
"Even I cannot carry those alone."
âMy, my, I must confess I have never expected so many visitors. What may this humble servant be doing for you, hm?â Hakkai lifted his index, offering a pleasentary of a smile.
"This is gonna sound stupid, but you look exactly like a very good friend of mine," Kenren laughed.
"Do I? He must be a joy to be around and you couldnât possibly contemplate to prospect of living without him then.", Hakkai smiles. Whether thatâs meant as sarcasm or not, his tone never shows. Still, heâs always thought itâs up to menâs interpretation.
"How would I know? Iâm not a mind readerâŚ" This guy was strange. Kenren couldnât tell how he meant it, all he could think was this guy had one hell of a pokerface on him.
"Oh?" However the other man had meant to say it, his denial did almost sound like one acceptance. Strange, huh? Perhaps Hakkai really is. Still, of all the eccentric individuals in the group, he had always entertained the notion of himself being the most ordinal one. "Ah, how rude of me. Cho Hakkai, at your service, and you are?" He extended his hand.
