I like to post about my reactions, favorite characters, shipping, theories and opinions about my current hyperfocus! =)

I prefer to focus on the positive parts and the parts I liked, because first and foremost this is supposed to be fun. So I straight up block anyone who is trying to start a discourse/talking in bad faith/being rude to me, I don't want that negativity and futility in my life. Have a nice week and drink water!

Sometimes I also like to funnily roast some jerks characters that I like, I like them because they are terrible people, if they have a redemption arc it's just a bonus for me x)

If I misgender someone or some character, please tell me! It wasn't never my intention!! My native language doesn't have official gender-neutral pronouns, so sometimes google translate automatically translates to he/him pronouns. I always try to check before posting, but sometimes it can go unnoticed! :(

For some reason this also happens with Tenna, almost always his pronouns are changed to she/her for some reason, I always need to change manually. Sometimes this also happens with Spamton and he's referred as it/its. Pain. T_T

I post my own opinions and interpretations, feel free to respectfully disagree with them. But 99% of the time (unless I asked) I don't want to debate with anyone, so please don't start a debate with me, I just want to express my opinions in my corner, if someone agrees with me that's just a bonus. No!!! Why is Jax the focus in episode 9??? Why isn't the focus on the characters whose arcs have already been completed and who have grown as people? Why is the focus on the character whose arc hasn't been completed?? Why does episode 9 focus on the protagonists and the antagonist? Why wasn't the supporting cast given a focus on their already completed arcs? Well, I hate Jax, so I'm not even going to try to understand the character's message and theme. I'm not even going to consider that she might be a closeted trans woman. Clearly, there are no trans women with internalized transphobia and transmisogyny!!! Topics like that make me uncomfortable, so I'll pretend they don't exist!!! Queer rep should only be for flawless characters and perfect victims. And all the characters hate Jax!!! Everyone being visibly sad and upset about Jax's "death" means they hate Jax!!! They all made a huge tent for Jax, and Zooble sacrificed several of his arms because they all HATE Jax. They all forgave Caine, but clearly Jax was the only one who was irredeemable. I just hate one of the protagonists in this story, so I want the author to change the story to my liking instead of me accepting that it's not for me and watching (or doing) something I enjoy. /SARCASM, IRONY, SATIRE (please)

anyone considering that maybe, with Caine knowing a little bit more about the world, and with Kinger, who helped make the AI, being sane now, they could work together to figure out how to fix the code of the Abstracted? maybe Caine couldn’t figure it out by himself, maybe Kinger didn’t consider it could be possible, but maybe together they could find away. maybe there is hope. there is still time.

TADC the last act spoilers

I think everyone is entitled to their own feelings and opinions towards the finale. Ofc. But I just can’t fathom disliking how Jax’s arc unravelled. It felt so poignant and beautiful to me, and trans stories deserve to be expressed like this — even if they end in tragedy.

Jax is treated with so much respect and dignity I could cry. I’m still so overwhelmed by it. I can understand why some people are angry that Jax’s transfemininity only comes out after she dies, but it’s hard to take claims of transphobia seriously when Jax’s abstraction is treated so sensitively.

(Not to mention, the main writer is a trans woman herself. Uhhh … not sure any of you non-transfem people should be criticising how a trans woman portrays her own transfem characters)

There’s so much love here. I am so taken aback and happy. I love how stories like this can be expressed to millions of people now. Trans joy is beautiful, but the presence of sympathic, trans tragedies is important too.

I am also of the belief that Jax’s conclusion is a bittersweet one rather than a full angst fest… I like to believe her real world self is out and making strides to recover. And her digital self is being looked after as the main cast tries to rehabilitate her.

(there’s no explicit implication that the cast is trying to figure out how to “un-abstract” the others. However considering how Jax is positioned in the tent rather than the aquarium, alongside the fact it’s just a natural conclusion you’d make after Learning How To Conjure, I like to think they work towards it post-canon.)

Just wanted to point out:

When Pomni entered the room with all the Jaxes, the one at the piano was playing Daisy Bell

One of the merch items shows that Ragatha has a piano in her room

In the article Caine showed about Suzie (human Ragatha), her horse was named Daisy Bell

I am now choosing to believe Ragatha taught Jax to play piano, and even more specifically, taught her to play Daisy Bell :’)

I think if you understand TADC as a deeply personal and direct story centering on transness, emotional/self repression, the inner complexity of cruel people, ego, control, self-destructive tendencies, second chances, and what it means to live a meaningful life, all filtered through the core vision of one person, you'll find a raw expression of all those things, an experience being shared. You'll find a story that is consistent in its theme, subject matter, and quality throughout. Not something impossibly esoteric or flawlessly sophisticated, but a story that puts every piece it needs to into place. A story that completes itself, that says what it needs to and leaves a mark after it does.

Conversely, if you understand TADC as a story to take every single aspect, moment, outcome, and detail totally literally rather than in tandem with the thematic signficance it communicates. Or were looking for a more lore-driven story. Or were hoping for a more rounded exploration of its world and characters, a hollistic dive into the premise it sets up rather than a story barreling towards a specific end goal/a very pointed thematic stance. You're gonna end up disappointed with what you got.

And this is not a moral judgement, I don't think any expectation is at all more correct than another. I actually think my last point is probably even the most fair stance to have. Especially if you don't engage with any secondary material and just look at the show itself, since it doesn't totally establish Jax as a core focus until later in its run. Some storylines do feel very sidelined.

But if you view the show for what it was meant to be rather than what it was expected to be, I personally think it was rather beautiful. Not perfect, not the pinnacle of cinema, but as a trans woman, it was meaningful to me, dearly so. I feel like the standards its being held to aren't totally reasonable. I think it's a story that deserved to be told as it is, I think it's human.

Tadc ep 9 spoilers

No one's gonna read this but I had to write my thoughts (mainly about Jax) somewhere. Don't worry, they are positive.

I absolutely love the ending. It fits so well with the theme of TADC, which is... How important is acception.

Everyone in the circus has to accept that they can't leave, and then has to accept they're not real people too.

Being unable to accept the circus for a long time causes an incompatibility between their physical form and the brain files, causing abstraction.

That's why I think Ribbit's abstraction wasn't about Jax, but Jax could've prevented it and instead left her to "die" alone.

So the last episode HAD to be jax-centric. Because everyone else has accepted who and where they are. Jax never did: they hated themselves the whole time and only survived by convincing themselves that nothing was real.

Jax is the best representation I have ever seen of internalized transphobia, it's clear that Gooseworx had experience herself and was the best person to tell this story.

Yes, internalized transphobia makes you feel like you're "the evil one", then it makes you hurt others to fit with the evil image you have of yourself. It can be empowering as long as you don't care about others. But it also leaves you lonely.

Jax cared about his mom, about Ribbit, about Kaufmo, about Pomni. And they forced themselves to stop caring, hurting everyone in the process.

Jax's mom cared about them (as shown by the hug). Did that stop her from laughing at them when they came out and showed themselves? No. So Jax starts associating care and hugs with "eventually this person will see me vulnerable and laugh at me".

Jax never comes out to Ribbit, but Ribbit gets it on her own. That makes Jax panic, and think they cared too much and didn't hide themselves enough, so someone found out. They would never care again. They tried to gaslight her and preventively told Kaufmo that Ribbit would spread fake news, scared that Kaufmo would find out their secret too. It's fine that Ribbit and Kaufmo abstracted: no one would care about Jax again, no one would hurt them like their mom did.

But then he started caring about Pomni, so he had to push her away too. Pomni is with Ribbit and Kaufmo, laughing at their naked skinned yellow body, in Caine's nightmare torture sequence. Their worst fear, the "mom incident" repeating.

No one sees Jax's real abstraction, not even us. They try to handle the "brains scans" news alone, while the others are together. They fail. You can't accept something like that on your own. Not even us viewers are allowed in their space, there's no one helping them.

Jax is scared but no one can know they're scared. They don't even reveal it to Pomni until the very end of their conversation.

Then there's Caine, the one that accepts his destiny, accepts how the humans see him, lets himself change for the better, and is allowed to stay. They're opposites and that's why the last episode is THEIR story.

So I don't wanna hear "critics" being mad at Jax's screentime. Especially the ones that are mad at the fact that it's a "man" and want the women to have the screen time even though it would add nothing to the story. I'm not arguing with you, you're just wrong (and free to block me).

So many people are saying stuff like “oh, I think he’s trans but we’re not actually going to see him transition in the show so he must be transmasc”

Trans character should not automatically mean post transition

Trans character does not automatically mean that they have done all the emotional labour that comes with figuring yourself out, ESPECIALLY characters like Jax

It’s so easy for media to make being trans into some abstract concept and simplify it to “character that is X gender in the book/show/movie was born as Y” and not actually explore the difficulties that come with transitioning and accepting yourself

Show the depressing parts like pre transition dysphoria, show the messy parts like being terrified to come out to the people you care about, and yes, show the happy parts like being called by your chosen pronouns and name for the first time, show the gender euphoria that can come with a big clothes shop with your friends

TADC Ep. 9 Spoilers

Two very friendly reminders to everyone who just watched the TADC finale:

If you believe "bad people" (even abusers) can't or don't deserve to get better and make up for past mistakes, you don't believe in justice; you just want a class of people you can hate without consequences.

Being a trans woman (or any other minority) doesn't necessarily make you a good person, nor does an individual's actions imply all people of that minority behave the same.

Jax is the most beautifully written and viscerally hits-close-to-home representation of transfemininity I've ever seen, so I beg you all to practise some moral nuance here.

BONUS: Abstraction being a metaphor for suicide does not mean it is suicide textually. Nowhere does TADC say or imply suicide is an acceptable way to "avoid consequences."
