January Birthstone: Garnets of Many Colors

Garnets have been used for centuries in jewelry. According to the GIA, in ancient times, garnets, along with any red stone, were called carbunkle. These were one of four precious stones thought to have been given to Solomon by God. (Garnet History and Lore) In Victorian times, garnets were commonly used in necklaces, rings, and all sorts of jewelry.

Most people recognize garnets by there signature rich, red color, which can look maroon, burgundy, or a deep wine tone. But, did you know that garnets actually come in many colors?

Some are familiar with Rhodalite garnets, which come in a lovely purple-pink color.

But, few have seen Demantoid garnets which are a brilliant yellow-green color and are very rare. Another green garnet is the more commonly found Tsavorite garnets, which are also a bright green color.

There’s even a variety of garnet that’s bright orange called Spessartite. All types of garnet are unique. Those with January birthdays know that traditional red garnets are the most beloved.

But now you can explore a wide variety of garnet colors.

Beautiful Pools of Light Watch Pendants
