So we're gonna jump around a Lil bit in here, but real quick let's give a hand for creationist Mymo!
No but actually i do think he is a fascinating and obsessive character and I appreciate his utilization to fill us in more about the lore of the world and current circumstances. And actually I might just make this a reblog chain to take it chunk by chunk as I see fit rather than trying to do it all in one shot.
We sort of have 3 facets going on here:
Power/ magic system explanation
Religious ideology
The loss/censorship of history and culture
And I think i have the screen caps to start in on two of the three... but the one I need more of is how anima and the vital instruments work which requires going back to early chapters (haha, oh nooo~ I have to reread? Oh? How terrible~♡)
Ok and maybe there is a secret 4th facet which is who Mymo is as a person because we do see is fanatical and obsessive as a character. His desire for knowledge and what is perceived as an injustice that so much information is just erased and non-available to the ground has turned into a full on obsession with omnicience, with control, and with power.
In the absence of the answers, he seeks to become the answer himself.
Knowledge is power, an absence of knowledge is a lack of power. And in a dangerous world it is very easy to feel weak and small in the face of the vast unknown. Like that's some cosmic horror shit. And how better to cope with the fear of some great entity than to become the thing you fear itself? (I mean, assuming there is a 'fear' component. I do think there may be an inferiority aspect to it. For certain there is a sort of obsessive anger too but that might be projecting from a time I was developing a character very fixated on uncovering the mystery of their own diety.
I mean our good buddy here quiet literally gives up his control, his most precious thing, in pursuit of this.
Because damn that is frustrating! To want to know something that feels unobtainable! To have those blockages, to learn that someone/something is systematically preventing you from knowing something, from knowing your own history. That has to be maddening.
(because it is. In real life, so many stories are erased and/or are censored much to the deserved anger of those who are forced to live with the consequences of having their past stolen from them and to those who dedicate their lives to trying to uncover and learn about it. That is a very real and common global experience)
Remember Arkha shows us the gaps in an earlier chapter after seeing Kuro (and he already seems to be clued in about the chokers listening in)
I have more of this section that I can add on later, but he does go on to question all those missing peices and divulges part of the Cleaners true purpose is to uncover them and figure out the "truth" of the world.
And its no wonder Rudo is shocked by the state of this book.
No wonder he's shocked by Mymo's frantic fanaticism
Because bro never missed a Bible study
So when Mymo says he wants to become a god, our boy of course....
So books up on the Sphere don't seem to be censored... or at the very least, Retgo had access to uncensored texts (if they were allowed/contraband of some kind is so far unknown.) Mind you the guards up there are also called "Apostles", the whole aesthetic up there is very clean and uniform, very controlled. Very there may not be a separation of church and state.
We are starting to step out of the experience of Rudo "Everything I knew about the ground was wrong and I know nothing. Help" and stepping into the zone of "Oh wait shit, that's right! The Spherite knows shit that we have no fuckin clue about."
Anyway, thanks for coming to the meandering rambling zone! I'm gonna put a pin it there and I'll come back to things as I actually key in and focus on specific things I wanna talk about (and you know, maybe actually organize thoughts on.)
