As I get to know my new collections more, I come across notes like this and just have to take a minute…or three. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Violet couldn’t be sure what time it was exactly when she finally snapped out of her entrancement with the book she’d found earlier that afternoon, but she was sure it had to be late. All the other library patrons had already left, and Violet had to let herself out with the key she was trusted with by one of the librarians.

It was a cool night, with a warm breeze coming in from the sea. Violet could smell the salt in the air, and she paused for a moment to savor the feeling. The streets were deserted, and most of the buildings along her route to the bus stop had all their lights turned off. Maybe I stayed out later than I thought... I hope the buses are still running!

As she approached her usual spot, she nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw somebody else waiting. Her eyes narrowed a little bit in suspicion as she moved closer.

“Oh, hello!” She spoke aloud slowly while signing, hoping that she could read the person’s lips in the dim street lamplight. “Lovely evening, isn’t it?”
