look. he was feeling pretty proud of himself-- it was hard keeping up with some quirks and teleportation quirks? those were cool as hell but he had been feeling less than confident. and then he did it! he had her pinned! he wasn’t even really thinking of much else until her question. a squawk of “what?” left shinsou as his face turned bright red. what the fuck? look-- he was startled out of his thoughts and the surprised squeak that left him absolutely does not leave this room. ever. but there’s a smile that forms on his lips as he processes what’s going on. “hey. what’s going on?”

he was still young, wasn’t he? maybe dreameater had taken all of the hurt, all of the bad. shoulders droop and he looks up with a weak smile. “are you still sad? does it hurt as much as it did back then?” dreameater asks carefully.
at least dreameater wasn’t lashing out at him-- not in the way he felt like he deserved. “it’s not nearly as bad as it used to be. i can handle the things people say better. . . i’m not happy yet, but i’m way less sad. living still hurts but not as much as it used to and i think i’ll be able to live the life i promised i would.”

he didn’t ask for this, and maybe he should HATE shinsou, he should be SCARY but he can’t. dreameater doesn’t have the heart as he scratches weakly at his neck. “why did you make me?” he asks, weak. it’s not just shinsou, but he avoided everyone else. he can’t believe he was found.
“i. . . i wanted to stay here. and help them. i didn’t know. . .” but that wasn’t much of an excuse. “soul splitting seemed to go so well for fable that i didn’t think it was possible for me to make you feel like this. i didn’t mean to make you like this, i thought. . . i thought you would be happy like i was but i was inexperienced and overconfident. i’m sorry.”
