The moon is just as important to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles identity as much as pizza and ninjitsu. I say this because the turtles are shadow warriors who work and live in darkness and are seen as monsters by humanity; making it virtually impossible to walk around in broad daylight without being attacked or feared by human beings. BELLE 2021 VS Beauty and The Beast 1991

I finally got around to watching the most recent Studio Chizu movie (BELLE) and let me just say, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It’s everything I love about anime movies and just animated movies overall done well. They were able to take an already well known story (Beauty and The Beast) and make it feel fresh and exciting with a virtual reality setup while keeping the fantasy aspect intact.

Throughout this movie, it felt pretty different and new from what I was used to with the fairytale I knew by heart. There were moments, however; that felt eerily familiar as I was watching the scenes between Suzu/Bell and The Dragon/Beast. Scenes that felt a little too close to another fairytale movie done by Disney back in 1991 titled Beauty and The Beast (no shocker there) which gave me a strong sense of deja vu with how they practically mirrored each other. The scenes that particularly stuck out to me the most were . . .

2. Beasts room scenes

3. GET OUT! scenes

4. Regret scenes

5. Rescue scenes

6. The Ballroom Dance scenes

Not to mention all the the colorful servants in the backgrounds trying to set up the two couples, the castle’s similar setups and how at times the main antagonist of BELLE Justin comes off a lot like Gaston from BaTB whenever he tries to “Kill The Beast” by unveiling the Dragons true identity online to the world. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing at all, I just couldn’t help but notice it and I truly believe the artist and makers of BELLE were inspired by Disney. I still enjoyed the moments and I will admit that I’m completely in love with this movie that truly is a tale as old as time
