i feel like another transmisogynistic element of discourse around femboy/trap/otokonoko/etc characters that goes under discussed. take the screenshotted tweet in this post.
the original tweet, the "which seat on the plane would you take" meme format and the characters are, some explicit trans women, characters who present as women and hate their maleness but are said to be boys in the text, transmisogynistic jokes, and venti genshin impact, who is like small and has braids. Mostly all depictions or abstractions of transfemininity . this obviously made to appeal to the transmisogynistic fetishization that makes most of these characters are popular as they are. this is the most discussed element of the transmisogyny present in common attitudes towards "femboys."
the quote tweet is a trans man saying these characters are the type of man he wants to be. this is the common transmasculine version of the above. transfemininity becomes a type of aspirational manhood to people who do this. its frustratingly less disussed (in part because its less common) but more pernicious as a result. they wrap their transmisogyny into their identity, so criticism of that transmisogyny is taken as "invalidation" of their identity.
But there are other qrts and replies, and in them you can find a third pattern. less often than the first, but more than the second, you will find people expressing a desire to enact violence on the depictions and abstractions of transfemininity. and not sexual violence, like some of the fantasies you might find the first crowd doing. its a lot of "i would kill all of them." some of that can be chalked up to regular perfmorative disgust of someone ashamed of their attraction to transfemininity, but you can even find people who style themselves as progressives doing it. the association of these characters with fetishization has allowed people who do not fetishize trans women but still hate trans women to disguise that hate as being against the fetishization.
so much talk about the transmisogyny with these types of characters is focused on the transmisogynistic way of liking them, but so much of the dislike is just as transmisogynistic.
"i want to fuck effeminate boys you can treat like women" and "i want to kill effeminate boys you can treat like women" arent really that different
this is why you cant discuss anything about these characters or the trends surrounding them with anyone other than trans women. even the people who dont fetishize them or deny their transfemininity still use them as receptacle for their brand of transmisogyny
A similar thing you sometimes see in tme yuri spaces is discourse over some popular f/f ship gets commonly depicted with one of the girls have a huge penis she used to top the other, but many of the loudest voices complaining are tme people who find the idea of a woman with a penis disgusting
