The show definitely dialed down the horror factor in the show, especially irt Eros -- it's more ethereal than horrifying, but still fantastic

I enjoyed Daughter of the Forest but was also unsure about starting book two for fear of second book syndrome. Thanks for the encouragement to pick it up!

Sorry I’ve been gone for so long… between Christmas, work and a cold that can only have been birthed in Hell, I have been a little negligent of Tumblr. Anyway!

I loved this. I found it so enjoyable to read, enough so that as soon as I finished I immediately ordered the tv series adaptation (the 1981 version with Jeremy Irons). So far I’ve only watched the first episode, but it seems incredibly faithful to the novel so I can’t wait to continue. This was a very nostalgic read, and just in general the sort of thing I love. I can’t seem to get enough of privileged young people in the 1920s… hopefully that doesn’t make me a horrible person. I will definitely be picking up more Evelyn Waugh.

Reasons to read Robin Hobbs's Realm of the Elderlings

. Lotta material (it’s a series of series) . Characterization so good it literally feels like real people . Lots of POC (including most of the main characters) . A genderqueer prophet is one of the major recurring characters . Multiple different cultures and political systems (there’s a matriachy) . Hella feminist (especially Liveship Traders) . Telepathic powers and communicating with animals . Most unique take(s) on dragons I’ve ever seen . I cried. A lot. . Last book in the most recent series is coming out this year . Please
