It's been forever since I've posted but now is a fantastic time to finally share the lovely piece I commissioned @vireja for. Such an amazing job with all my girlies and captured my vision perfectly.

She's an absolute joy to work with and I have been staring at this piece ever since I first got it. The details!!!!!!! It's sooooo long and sooooo perfect. My absolute favorite piece! Check under the cut for close-ups of each of the girlies.

Tea Time with the ladies in Jaheira’s house is a post-BG3 HC I had in my head.

It’s basically just Shadowheart being dropped by Balehrys in Jaheira’s house for tea. This is probably years after and Karlach is fixed and all, Jaheira’s retired, Lae’zel coming as some astral projection and Minthara as I said before is a thriving political figure in Baldur’s Gate

Does Balehrys worship any god (I know he's Jergal's chosen but ive always read thier relationship more as an employer and employee)?

and does he push his children to worship Selune as she is known to help werewolves control their urges (as with shadowheart's father)? So I would imagine he would in hopes she can help protect them against Bhaal.

Jergal is actually the closest he has to worshipping a god post-BG3, and yeah best description of them is like an boss and employee in friendly terms kind of way 😂 In post-BG3 he is actually the sort that leans more on his Oaths than being too devoted to the god he worships, unlike what he was like pre-BG3 where he follows Tyr much more than his oaths and to an extent, Bhaal, even when he is an Oathbreaker by then. Years spent being too devoted to a deity took its toll.

For his kids, he isn’t really the kind to push a singular worship of a god to them. More often he’s just going to teach them about the gods if the children asked or what Balehrys felt necessary to teach them, like Selune’s guidance as you mentioned. I personally feel like it’s more like Shadowheart to be the one to introduce the small ones to Selune and the other deities more than him.

Balehrys would just be like a second voice when they ask about the gods, the only one he’s going to be very hands on with teaching about is Bhaal. For obvious reasons that he needs to hammer in that they need to avoid that one at all costs 😂

On that note, he’s going to be very swayed to letting them fully follow Selune if one of the children manifests lycanthropy 😂

I found the Act 2 part where you convince Gale not to sacrifice himself (at the end of the Illithid colony) to be underwhelming, so I re-imagined it with more drama. 😩

A discord discussion inspired me to also interpret this as Sumi embracing him right as he was blowing up. One desperate final act of love before they die together. And that is an even more tragically angsty interpretation which I absolutely adore.

Reading your fic and seeing all your Balehrys art is inspiring me to take a stab at redoing my durge run after expanding on her further! And maybe share about her as well. I almost never see anyone make content of their own durge on tumblr and stick to the default dragonborn look which is fair, but makes me feel weird having such elaborate lore for my own lol. Seeing you do your own thing makes me feel far less nervous about it!

Aww thank you! Honestly, I’m nervous whenever I actually post anything lol. But it’s even more frustrating if I can’t have any outlet to put out any lore stuck in my head so I just post whatever.

And yes! Please do expand your durge’s lore! It’s great to actually get those ideas out !

Hi there, just read through some of your chapters of your fic. Really awesome stuff. While reading Balehrys's backstory with the order and events that happened after, I realized something: Others have pointed out the similarities and paralels with Guts, but Balehrys also have similarities with Guts's arch enemy Griffith. Think about it: Both of them used to be a part of noble order(though Griffith was their leader); both of them then had an incident that made them fall from their grace(Griffith with Guts leaving and then him sleeping with a princess, and Balehrys killing his comrades for Saera and running away with her); both were tortured and imprisoned for their actions mentioned here; and both decided to give themselves to dark powers(Griffith becoming Femto and sacrificing his friends during Eclipse with a beherit, and Balehrys giving into his dark urges for Bhaal to escape). Also, from what I understood, Balehrys did some… morally questionable things with Saera, similar to what Griffith did to Casca during Eclipse. It's interesting that Balehrys has similarities with both Guts and Griffith

Hello! I really really loved reading through takes like this about the fic!

Yes, I did read when I was still writing the fic before about the similarities between Durge and Guts. I honestly haven’t gotten around finishing the manga THEN, and his design is obviously inspired by Guts lol. But after writing the fic, I decided to jump and actually read the manga.

Boy, now that you mentioned it, Griffith actually does fit Pre-BG3 Balehrys! And now that I think about it, Present-BG3! Balehrys is now much more similar to Guts. I did not even realize stuff like this until you guys point it out and that is so amazing!

Hello, I really like the artwork of your Durge. A quick question though: Balehrys is supposed to be half-drow, right? But why does he look like a normal half-elf(aside from being pretty buff and the scars on his chest) with brown skin, when half-drow usually have purple/dark skin?

Hello! Yeah, that was very intentional. I always thought that Bhaal practically designed Durge on how they would be treated as and seen in the realm. Balehrys is a half-drow that bears little to no resemblance to a usual half-drow. The only thing that gave it away is the other Lolth-red eye of his. He was made to be a half-drow since lorewise, they are often cast out or isolated by both humans and drow. Bhaal wanted Balehrys to be easily isolated from any form of attachments from the beginning, and that starts with him being a half-drow.

Balehrys was intentionally made to look confusing and odd. He looks like someone that is easily mistaken to be half-elf or human or wood elf or drow, you would have to make a double take on what he actually is. He is too tall and buff for a drow. His skin makes him look more of a human than a half drow. He is considered to have a typically attractive face that draws people in and make them trust him enough, but at the same time intimidating enough to scare them off. So he looks ordinary enough at the same time something looks odd about him. He was always somewhere in the middle.

That’s what I was going for when I made him. Also I have a little HC that in a way Bhaal looks just like him when he was still a mortal. But that’s just me.
