For the life of him, Elijah couldn't understand why Eri though he would ever be thankful. "I wouldn't have needed more time with her if you hadn't killed her." He hissed. "I saw what you did, you broke her neck! You could have healed her, you could have teleported away, you had all the power you needed and didn't use it!" He let out a small cry when his back hit the wall, bringing his hands up to hold onto Eri's wrists. At least Eri didn't appear to be going for his soul.

"I don't want to fight you, I just want you gone!" Elijah tried to get free. He'd told Esme he wasn't looking for revenge and it was true. He'd gone through and seen enough losses to know that he was better off trying to move forward with his life. And part of that was leaving Eri out of it. "It'll be over with when you stop chasing me."

"I fell for you." Eri hissed back. "And you just want me gone?!"

Those words honestly stung more than they should. Eri tightened his grip, slapping Eli across the face in a mirror of what Matt had done to him all those months ago. It felt good. But far less good without Eli retaliating.

"I snapped her neck because letting her live was crueler than letting her die. I was going to just leave her, but you told me to bring her back! Do you have any idea what the hell you were asking me to do? It's deity fucking 101 that you don't use order magic to bring people back. And yet, I did it for you! And look where it got me: abandoned in the fucking woods with nothing but ghosts for company. So I just need you to tell me it was worth something!"

"What you did for-? Eri, you murdered the woman I love!" Elijah knitted his brows. Was he drunk? on drugs? How could Eri have forgotten about what he'd done? Or was he completely delusional? Nothing else could explain whatever he was raving about. He did look feral, and Elijah started to back away towards the entrance to the alley. "We have nothing to talk about, I don't want anything to do with you. Just leave me alone." He repeated. Elijah wasn't sure if he could teleport away or if Eri would stop or follow him.

"I know. I know I killed Persy." He hadn't forgotten. For a brief moment, the mask of rage slipped, and his regret found its way to his face. "But I gave you more time with her. I warned you that she was going to die. I gave you and her my final miracle. I did everything I could to take back what I did to her. And I never told the deities that you told me to bring her back, or that she was the one who attacked me in the first place. I'll accept either your thanks or a slap in the face."

The mask was back in place. He grabbed Eli by his collar, bending him down forcefully so he could shove him against the wall with more force.

"I wish every day that you'd just punch me and get it over with. I killed Persy, and I don't understand why you won't retaliate. But it seems like you're too busy running. I don't understand why. All I know is I'm going to have to initiate this fight myself."

Elijah had gone to Hedon to meet with a dark witch who was also working with techno magic. Unlike some other coven leaders, he'd always gotten along with dark witches, and his support for Lillian's spot on the council had only made forming relationships easier. He'd been lost in his thoughts when Eri grabbed him and wasn't able to react well until he'd already been dragged away from the public street.

So far he'd done his best to avoid Eri and had planned to keep that up for the foreseeable future, for the rest of his life. Of course the universe wouldn't be that kind. He never wanted to see him ever again, if Elijah had had a say in it, Eri would have been locked in the underworld or at least banished from the city forever.

"Let go of me!" He yanked at his arm, stepping back as far as he could. He hadn't really heard any of what Eri said. "Can't you just leave me alone, Eri? Haven't you done enough"?

"You've had a month free of me. Now I'm back, and we need to talk." Eri let Eli slide out of his grip, but kept a close eye on him in case he ran for it.

He glowered up at Eli, letting him see the hatred and hurt and that feral, untrusting edge that'd come to stay within him over his month of being trapped in the forest with nothing but ghosts for company. He couldn't stand any form of physical contact, but he was also pissed as hell, and he wanted to see Eli squirm.

He wasn't necessarily mad at Eli. He was pissed with the deities for cursing him the way they did instead of giving him a normal punishment. But Eli had been avoiding him even before he'd been punished, and Eri had decided while he had all that time to do nothing but think and sleep that he was pissed at him for not doing anything.

Where was Eli's spine? Eri had killed Persy, his girlfriend, and Eli had yet to say one word about it. He would've understood rage, or grief, but just pretending like Eri's appearance was nothing more than an inconvenience was getting old. So Eri intended to shake him out of that the hard way. He could play the bad guy well enough with his new fallen deity status. When you treat people like animals, they act like animals. Eri had been getting the 'dangerous demon' frightened eyes for too long, and now he was ready to make someone his victim. If Eli wanted to run and try to retreat now, he'd find himself running straight into Eri's claws.

"Look at me. I just went through hell for you, and that's all you have to say to me? No thanks for what I did for you?"

Eri had been itching to talk to Eli ever since his punishment had ended, but the man was hard to find. He figured after some searching that Eli was probably hiding from him for some idiotic reason.

Eri had tried to soothe his stung feelings when Eli had staunchly refused to talk to him. He would've been alright with Eli lashing out. He would've understood it. And, because he'd been expecting some retaliation, he took all of the blame for his role in Persy's death. It was his fault, after all. But Eli had been the one to tell him to bring Persy back. Eri had fucked around with order magic for Eli and Persy. He'd been thoroughly punished for it. And he'd kept from dragging Eli and Persy's names through the mud all this time. He kept it to himself that he'd been acting under Eli's orders when he used order magic. He'd endured a month of isolation and grasping phantom hands and truly not knowing whether he was alive or dead for Eli and Persy.

But it was getting hard to keep sight of why he was doing that when Eli was avoiding him. He'd tried for all this time to be patient, and hope that Eli would come to his senses on his own. He wanted Eli to acknowledge what he'd done for him. He didn't much care whether Eli was going to fight him about it or whether he was going to be grateful for those days Eri had given him with Persy. But Eli wasn't going to run from him anymore.

Eri had honestly just been waiting around Hedon when he'd gotten lucky and spotted Eli on the sidewalk with his briefcase.

As soon as Eli showed up, Eri was moving. He peeled off the wall and walked for him, throwing a big, fake grin up on his face so he wouldn't arouse any suspicion. An arm was tossed over Eli's shoulder. "Eli! It's been far too long. Let's talk."

With a too-tight grip on Eli's shoulder, he led him away from the crowd and into a secluded alleyway. Once they were out of eyeshot and earshot from most of the other guests, he let the grin drop.

"You kept me waiting. Here I was thinking we had something special," he said, letting his grip slide to Eli's wrists to keep the man from running. "I just went through hell because I thought it'd be a good idea to give you and Persy enough time to say goodbye. A simple thank you might be nice."

It was second nature for Esme to go into carer mode when someone was in distress. While she was meant to be the stoic leader of the pack, she was a mother first and that instinct was her strongest. Eri might not need the drink but the cup could still warm his hands if he needed that comfort.

Esme poured them both some tea before sitting back. Something was definitely weighing heavily on him. "You can talk about it," she assured. Esme wasn't the kind to give away her secrets but she was the kind of person to keep secrets.

"You..." she trailed off, knowing that it took something tremendous to make a deity fall. "You fell," she repeated. The wolf was silent for a moment as she took her tea between her hands. Eri hadn't seemed like the kind to kill for sport but for him to have fallen, Esme could only assume that he killed someone innocent.

"Something tells me you made a mistake?" she suggested.

"Yes. It was a mistake," he whispered. "I was drunk, and falling, and my magic was so... violent. I tried to heal someone I hurt, but I killed her."

Eri did not mention that he'd used the last of his divinity to bring Persy back. He'd told Matt and Eli, and that was enough. He couldn't mention Persy to Esme by name. He couldn't do anything to endear himself to her. Couldn't make the situation seem better than it was. He wanted for someone to just haul off and hit him. It might as well be Esme.

Eli had been all too eager to be rid of him, which Eri couldn't blame him for. He had no memory of her death. All he had was Eri's warning that Persy didn't have long. The deities didn't suffer order magic tampering lightly. He doubted he had long before someone came and caught him for a punishment. He wouldn't fight it. He just wished the deities wouldn't undo his final miracle. It made it feel like he'd fallen for nothing. It made his sacrifice feel like a waste.

"For a long time, I wanted to fall. I've never felt quite comfortable in my skin as a deity. But now that it's happened, I feel... rotten. From the inside out." He wished again that she'd hit him instead of trying to comfort him. She was being so unnecessarily kind, and what did he have to offer besides his corruption? Why should she waste her time listening to his confession?

He scrubbed a hand over his face, feeling sick and sweaty just from talking about it to her. Tears were gathering in his eyes, but he couldn't let them fall.

"..yeah, that." Reed repeated solemnly after the fallen as he was joined by him way closer. Nothing explained why he had chosen to come to his house yet but Eri had good intentions. He'd always had. The wolf did not obstruct the boy's actions, sitting still while his knuckles burned like a motherfucker. He did, however, show visible signs of discomfort when he was asked if anything had happened. "I guess you could say that. We're dealing with an 'internal pack issue' right now..has me questioning a lot of things." he sighed, frowning as much as his swollen brow bone would allow him. "It's..difficult."

The silence had Jaxon believe this was it. That they were not going to entertain either of those topics any longer..until, of course, Eri proved him wrong as he began to speak. He was behind Persy's death..the demon was the reason Elijah hurt right now and he felt sorry for it. Sad.. Jaxon stilled the boy's movements, squeezing softly as he cast a long stare into his eyes. "What happened after that?"

"What kind of internal issues?" Eri asked. He didn't like anything that'd shake Jax up in any way. He could definitely see why the other had gotten into a fight. He probably would've done the same thing.

Eri's heart rate skyrocketed as it kicked into fight or flight. Jax had grabbed him. He'd dropped Jax's hand and was halfway across the room before he knew what happened. He took a deep breath. Jax wasn't here to hurt him. He wasn't some faceless, voiceless phantom. And yet, adrenaline was coursing through him, begging for him to just run for it.

He sucked in a breath, trying to calm himself down. He couldn't stop feeling those icy hands on him, closing around his wrists, always trying to drag him somewhere. Logic said that they'd been people trying to help him. But after a certain amount of time, Eri had truly begun to wonder if he was still alive, and whether or not those phantoms were trying to drag him to hell. Jax wasn't going to hurt him. He knew that. But it was difficult to get that through his head. He spent a few seconds trying to remind himself that Jax was nice. He tried. But he couldn't quite convince himself to sit back down next to him, so he nervously paced around Jax's living room, rubbing at his flesh, hoping to soothe away some of the sting.

He knew he was acting weird and rude. Jax would probably think he was insane. He wanted to be normal. He wanted to just sit there and let Jax touch him so gently. He needed it. But he couldn't sit still and let it happen. He tried to find his voice to apologize, or to tell Jax that it wasn't his fault that Eri was so jumpy. Nothing came out.

"I heard that someone died.." That should have been enough detail to guess the rest. Elijah was also a friend of his, so when he told him, Jax was shocked at first, finding it hard to believe that the deity was behind such a thing. He did not know the whole story but he hoped that there was an explanation for it. That it had been the result of an accident. "And then you were gone so..I guess that confirmed things for me." his shoulders gave up and dropped, but the same frown remained on his features. Part of it being due to his own circumstance.

As Eri walk past him and into the livingroom, the beta followed. He patted the sofa, politely asking the boy to sit, and came back with the first aid kid within a moment's notice. "I got myself into a fight." he offered simply and put the object on the table. Shortly after, he sat, flipping the lid open. A silence ensued, until Jaxon realized he was probably being a dick to the demon and that this..was no way to treat a guest. "..okay, maybe I could use a hand.."

"Oh. That." He sat, thinking for a long moment about what to say. What was there left to say at that point? Persy was long gone. Eri had fallen to save her, and the deities hadn't even let her live more than a few days. The whole thing was a waste.

Eri frowned when Jax mentioned picking a fight. That didn't seem like something he usually did. He seemed like the type to settle things with a friendly drink. Something was under his skin. "Did something happen?"

Eri let out a relieved breath, glad to have something to do with his hands. He unpacked a few items from the first aid kit, and then, with gentle hands, he cleaned up Jax's wounds. Brushing against his skin made Eri fight back a shudder. Contact still burned coldly at his fingertips. He half expected Jax to grab him by his wrists and try to drag him off to hell. But he got through it.

As he worked, he spoke to fill the time. "I met Persy in the woods while she was a wolf. I was drunk and falling and my powers were so... violent. I was trying to put her to sleep. But I killed her."

If he shut his eyes even to blink, he knew he'd see Persy's lifeless body. He could hear Eli wailing. They were things he'd gotten used to over the course of his punishment. With nothing to distract himself, no company, or phone, or booze, he'd mostly slept. Persy kept him company. She didn't seem like she was angry. She was just sad. He was sad too. "I brought her back with the last of my divinity. One final miracle. But the deities undid it."

Jaxon's head tilted, disappointed. "Considering what I heard, you do owe some folks one hell of an explanation, Eri, but fine..I won't press you for answers." It would seem that the demon was just as messed up as he was and, judging by that look he got from him, the wolf would even dare say genuinely concerned. Over him. At least that explained why he lifted a hand towards him..which he took down upon realizing something. He couldn't heal him.

With the next thing he said, Reed summoned a soft smile but still, it did not quite reach his eyes, anger and frustration still visible through them. "I'm good." the male said curtly as he moved out of the way and gestured at him in an inviting way, "Would you like to come in?"

"What have you heard?" Eri asked warily.

He hated to see the disappointment spreading across Jax's face, and hated even more the tone of it in his voice. If it were anyone else, he would've given them some attitude back. But Jax wasn't just anyone, he was Jax, and something about it made him want to break down and cry. He'd stopped crying within the first week of his isolation, and he wasn't about to start again just because Jax took a slightly harsh tone with him. Still, his eyes filled with unshed tears as he shuffled past Jax and into his apartment.

"What happened?" He asked, the question coming out unusually small. "Are you sure I can't help?"

There was no way Eri could have known but Jaxon had just got home himself. It had been a long night, some might say. Part of it had to do with those goons he had come across on his way out of work. They might not have necessarily asked for it but the beta had been looking for a fight ever since shit had gone sideways and he'd got just that. He had beat the living shit out of them, crushing their bones and rejoicing in their pain..and well, now that was over, fingers curling around the edges of his sink.

Facing the mirror in his bathroom, the wolf felt the tenderness around his eye and was pressing a warm, wet towel to his split lip when he heard the knock to his front door. The absence of a wolf scent should have been enough of a warning that he should, perhaps, ignore it, but so much about tonight was about doing the wrong thing. So yes, he did walk over there and opened after a brief pause.

"...fucking hell, Eri...?" Demon. He smelt like.. But what was he doing there? "Where have you been..?"

Eri froze as he took in Jax's face. It was a bloody, swollen mess, and his knuckles weren't much better. He knew what it looked like to get into a fight, and Jax clearly had. But why? Who'd attacked him? Was it more humans?

"I'll tell you over a drink sometime." He reached out for Jax, then hesitated. What did he think he was going to do? He didn't have his healing abilities now that he'd fallen. Jax probably knew how to take better care of himself. But Eri still wished he could help. The image of the last time they'd met was fresh in his mind. It'd been a long time since he'd visited Jax in the hospital, but that look in his eyes was the same. Eri didn't know why, but it stabbed at him like a dagger in the ribs. He needed to do something to help him.

"We really need to stop meeting like this," he said, voice coming out croaky from disuse and strangled emotion. He lowered his hand back to his side, then gestured to Jax's face. "Can I help?"

Eri walked up to Jax's apartment door, hesitating outside it. He'd waited for some of the hustle and bustle of the day to end and for night to take over before he took to the streets. He was less likely to run into people like that, with the darkness for cover. He was a demon now, and it fit that he moved about in the night.

Nothing felt quite real yet. He still half thought that he might wake up one morning and find himself back in those grey woods. He dreamt about nothing besides that place.

But Jax might help. The wolf had proved to be a steady presence in Eri's life, and Eri needed people like that now. Just someone to be there to make him feel like maybe something was real. Eri doubted he was ready to talk about his month in isolation. He just wanted some company. Something to fill that yawning pit of isolation inside him.

Before he could think better of it, he knocked.

Location: a bar

Eri was, at long last, back in the land of the living. He'd just been dropped off in his apartment by the deities. It felt so strange to see people and buildings and plants that were whole, and not see-through and warping before his eyes. It almost didn't feel real. He was sure that this was just another trick being played on him for the sake of his sanity. He was still seeing Persy, which wasn't doing much to convince him that he was really home.

He'd sat in the silence of his old apartment for a few minutes before the silence and wrongness overwhelmed him. It didn't feel right, somehow, to be in his apartment alone. So he'd gone to the bar near his place, hoping something would happen to convince him that this was anything more than a kind dream.

But the dream turned into a nightmare quickly. Too-hot bodies surrounded him as he sat at the bar and tried to find his voice to order a tequila. Someone brushed against his shoulders and back as they walked behind him. He felt it the cold heat like a brand.

He bolted up from his seat, retreating into the bathroom, feeling his heart pound like he was dying. He felt like he was dying. He got his breathing under control after a few minutes of kind silence from the bathroom. Persy watched him in the reflection of the mirror, her bent face twisted into concern.

When he felt a bit more normal, he exited the bathroom, feeling wet and somehow too hot, like he had a fever. This had been a mistake. He needed to go back. Back to the forest, where the ghosts weren't quite so crowded. But he also needed to drink something. Carefully, making sure nobody touched him, he made his way back to the bar. Downed the tequila he'd ordered for himself, feeling it burn down his throat. Immediately, he felt calmer. He took a deep breath, and ordered another. Someone came and sat next to him in spite of the unfathomable look on his face. Half expecting the person to have no face, he peered at them from the corner of his eye. "Hello."
