Image Hand

A new feature for VR development from Leap Motion and Unity allows you to see your actual hands in virtual spaces:

The Image Hand asset is a blend between Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). It displays images of your real hands from the camera sensors with the full interactivity and 3D behavior of our classic rigged hands. This works by projecting the raw images of your hands into a 3D mesh that can interact with other objects in real-world space – with total fidelity to depth, intersections and more.

But then again...

I’m getting really deep into this thing. I now know a bit of Javascript and realise I should have downloaded the developers edition of Firefox a long time ago. Urgh, am I making this more complicated than it has to be? Good thing I have a backup plan which replaces gestures with buttons (low voltage sensors) made from alfoil and stuck onto a pane of glass which is then projection mapped from behind with images of buttons. A la emulator aesthetic (see link) hmmmmm….

I think I found something important, also it seems a lot easier to set up than just going straight from leap motion to resolume for some reason. Current input data ➡ output data looks like: leap motion ➡ node ➡ arduino ➡ ascii ➡ resolume

I've come up with a few options for my hci. I know that I want to control a flying game / video editor by using gestures or proximity sensors. The leap motion controller is my go to input device at the moment but I could also use the xbox kinect camera......all things to be figured out now that I know its inappropriate to stick proximity sensors inside the dome.

Damn I've been slack on the tumblr recently. This is from class a few weeks back, we managed to use an arduino processor with low voltage sensors to make a HCI out of the class plant. The plant is now in my possession for the next 7 days. Fingers crossed my cat and dog dont eat it 🌈

HTC Collaborates with Valve To Launch the Vive VR Headset

Prior to MWC, rumors swirled that we might see a VR headset at this year’s show as popular gaming company Valve announced that it would be showing a VR headset along with its new VR-platform, Steam VR, at the Game Developers Conference (GDC). Sure enough, earlier this week HTC surprised us with a high-end virtual reality headset, Vive, which they have made in collaboration with Valve. HTC expects to launch a Developer Version of its headset this Spring with a Consumer Version to hit the shelves in time for the holiday season.
