Final piece for Light Grey Art Lab. Print available!
♡ hi bbs! as many of you probably know, cybertwee has been working really hard on our first venture into the VR world - the cybertwee virtual HQ! we’ve hit the halfway point of our campaign time-wise, but have only funded 17% of the project. if you can, consider donating to the project, or if you can’t, please signal boost and share our project so we can launch the app for free and without ads, and make it as accessible as possible to as many people as possible! ♡
what is cybertwee? cybertwee is a community and arts collective that centers around reclaiming signifiers of various forms of femininity in the tech world. feminine, and especially cute traits and identifiers have long been culturally been associated with inferiority and submissiveness. women, genderqueer and non-bianary people have had to outwardly avoid appearing to feminine or cute to be take seriously, or even to avoid violence. our goal is to reclaim our unique femme / cute culture within an open-sourced community built around sharing art, teaching skills, and creating a space for ourselves to grow in the tech arena, which skews dramatically male and white. our past projects include selling cookies on the dark web , teaching workshops on encryption, and creating interactive self-care installations.
what is the cybertwee HQ? the cybertwee HQ is a virtual reality app that we will be launching for your iphone or android with google cardboard, and for other VR platforms. the app contains a virtual world and art gallery built with the unity game engine. our first project launching with the HQ is a virtual gallery containing the work of 22 international artists and special works by legendary cyberfeminists VNS Matrix. our goal is to develop this app into a residence space for future digital artists and into a library of digital texts surrounding cyborg theory, gender theory, afrofuturism, among other subjects.
why should i donate? we believe that creative labor is undervalued in today’s internship-laden world. so many artists are expected to do work “for the exposure.” we want to offer our artists an honorarium and value our labor as developers. we also want to make this VR space as accessible as possible to as many people as possible by launching it as a free app, to use with a smartphone in a very affordable cardboard interface. in order to launch the app for free and without ads, we’ve decided to crowdsource the project. we believe in radical transparency, so everyone can see where the money is going.
we have so many cool and affordable reward options including ascii art temporary tattoos, a high quality VR viewer for your smartphone, and tshirts!
please consider donating if you can afford it, or if not please reblog to signal boost the project! femme voices in VR are so important!
