For the 175th anniversary of photography a project called “Päewapilt” was brought to life by nonprofit organization Estonian Photographic Heritage Society. In 2014 two workshops were held in Estonian Art Academy and in Tartu Art college, to introduce the process and history also the ambrotypes and ferrotypes of photography. The project culminated with the formulation of the digital booklet which includes detailed history of the process and fallowing video. The origin of the word päewapilt (that's what photographs were called in Estonia around the year 1900 ) is uncertain, but päew (nowadays päev) stands for day and pilt stands for image, so it’s probably derived from the concept of daylight studios.
