It’s after rain here at my place. Finished rehearsing my mix on a track and decided to create something and this came up.
Will definitely finish this one and adding a female vocal would be nice. This is a raw idea, hopefully it will develop into something beautiful and cozy to hear.

So, it’s basically 1:47AM when I start recording this in which I can’t sleep and kind of bored.
Instead, I make this video showing you how my creative process starts when I want to make music, or bored, or just basically wanting to practice. I’m using logic pro x as my choice of DAW, in case if you don’t know what DAW is, it’s a Digital Audio Workstation. The easiest terms would be recording software.Â
I don’t have a midi controller or keyboard so everything I do usually just by drawing the notes. It’s a simple method and you have basic music theory in general. For start, I always have a template of creating 4 instruments/midi track, and 1 audio track for my bass. Those 4 midi tracks consists of Arturia Electric Piano VST (Virtual instruments), and the rest is for the drums.
Now, Logic have a tons amount of electric drums samples to work on but I always prefer the kit pieces where I can put one for a single track, like the kick one track, the snare drum one track, and the hi-hat. That way, I can have more control over each individual track better on the next stage rather than to have on track that is full with one drum samples (kick, snare, etc in one track).
As for the bass itself, it’s directly recorded from my interfaces. I don’t use any head amps or any kind of pedals. Straight bass directly to my interfaces and into logic.
Hopefully you can see what I do the process get’s longer, looking for ideas, looking for the notes for the chords, etc. In the end, it’ll just be a long jamming searching for that one idea that might stick as a composition.
This is just how I do it. There’s no right or wrong on this part of the process.

Not knowing how I feel, it just came out. Haven’t picked up the bass for almost a week now. Made a beat from logic pro x stock vst instruments.Â
Here’s the list and what I do with it :
- Depth Charge (kick)
Mainly add high pass to around 30Hz, boost with tight slope around 100Hz for that round bottom where the ball of the pedal hits the kick drum (somehow I mix it like I actually mixing a real drum lol). The chain continues to logic stock compression which I can’t remember the details of the threshold, ratio, attack and release time (I’m sorry). The track continue to a bus I set.
- Beat Machine (snare)
Using the EQ built in, but I set 5kHz back to 0 db, and then I boost around 700Hz to get more body out of the snare (again mixing it like I mix a real drum lol). I send a bus track for the stock logic reverb (sound designer) and using a short drum plate reverb with EQ boost around 1kHz. The track continue to a bus.
- Deep Tech (hi-hat)
Adding low pass on the EQ to attenuate around 16kHz. Send to a bus with the same reverb as the snare, and the track goes to a drum bus.
- Arturia (stage-73 electric piano)
- Bass
For the bass the chain was logic stock EQ to a stock compression and then I add waves puigtec EQ (although I can’t remember which, EP or ME). No amps or preamps when I recorded the bass, it’s a direct line straight to my interface and into logic.
Well, the rest is history, since I didn’t open the logic pro x session when I’m writing this, so, hopefully I can get more detailed on the next one. Hope it helps and have a great day everyone. Happy making music and mixing and any kind of stuff that you’re doing!
