I thought you were going to die.” The use of jetpacks aren’t new, and neither is Ryder’s seemingly inane ability to throw himself sky high. Unfortunately, the panic Jaal feels every single time he does it doesn’t seem to want to go away, either. “That would have been a bad tale to tell Evfra. ‘Ah, the Pathfinder rocketed into the air and broke all of his bones on the descent, including his neck. My apologies. Please do not demote me.’”

“You are saying it wrong. Are you not taking this seriously, Ryder?” Despite the seriousness in his expression, Jaal’s words hold little more than a jesting tone as he elbows at her side. “I thought you said you wanted to learn, Pathfinder.”

“You keep wild creatures for fun.” That’s a simple enough observation, Jaal supposes. Strange hobbies, the keeping of aliens – animals? “When I was a child, I took apart my pet after it died to see what components it was composed of and how it worked. Truly fascinating.”

Jaal fixes the pathfinder with a similar gaze. “Are you close with your family?” Cora has only just informed him of the fate of the man’s twin, and his father. Concern for his new friend has been falling onto him in heavy waves, as it is usually wont to do when it comes to emotions.

“It’s a figure of speech- like, ‘how are things going for you?’ If you’re doing okay…?” Already he could feel his face heat up, the beat of his heart ever increasing, realizing how foolish he must have sounded. Did the Angaran really not understand? Apparently not, made sense, seeing how they were new to the whole human interaction thing.
“If it makes you comfortable, feel free to stay here. But you don’t have to be a stranger to everyone- we are all in this together. If you ever need someone to talk to, or help you with- whatever you’re doing.” Hands moved to his hips, gesturing with a nod to the work scattered among his desk. “You know I’m more than willing to help you out. What is it you’re working on?”
a contented chuckle leaves him -- the sound is deep, and rumbling, like lightning across a low bridge. he follows scott’s gaze to the work on his desk, where his rifle lays completely dismantled. he carries himself over, gesturing for the human to follow in the process. careful hands run over the pieces of the kett technology, intermingled with angaran to make it more powerful than before.
“it is my own. i made it from scratch. it’s just... a project, i’ve had. i enjoy taking things apart,” he explains. “something to do. when my hands are not busy, i tend to---------” what is the word? fidget? no, not quite. “worry. i worry if i have nothing to do.”
