LJS for W (Julyā16) - Part 3
Translation note: Part 1 and Part 2 were based on the website version of the interview. The following are the extra questions that are included in the magazine version, so they feel a little disjointed.
W: Was there any reason that you had such a long period of rest?
I was getting scared about acting. Since I love dramas, even when I was working non-stop, I would watch my own acting and try objectively critique it. When I look at the acting of other actors, I would also learn from them. But I started to not be able to do that⦠which made me think that acting in so many consecutive projects is eating away at my energy. So I had to take a break to recharge.
W: After your debut, you have been taking on projects with bravery, or should I say ambition?
I have always been shy and introverted.Ā āHigh Kick 3ā² andĀ āSchool 2013ā² were projects that demanded auditions, even from famous rookies; but somehow I had no fear and just did it. After my projects met success, it started to make me scared; I would judge my own acting.
W: Would you stay it is slump?
Rather than saying it is a slump due to not working, I wanted to get rid of the acting habits that I have gathered, but couldnāt find the way out. When I work with a new character, I kept thinking how I could use acting styles that I havenāt used before.
W: Rather than adopting extreme change for each character, it seems to currently be a trend for actors to use a set of similar tones and habits for each character and expand upon that.
I feel that audiences judge acting with some preconceived notions of where that actor comes from, like āthis person is from independent film, this person came from modellingā¦ā. I never emphasized that fact about myself, and I tried to do movies and dramas concurrently since my debut, but somehow I still get sorted into the category of model-actors. Since I want to break the preconceptions related to that title, I really focus on my acting. When I didĀ āDoctor Strangerā andĀ āHot Young Bloodsā, I threw myself into acting to a degree that I think I may never be able to do again.
After that, I joined the production of āPinocchioā. Writer Park Hye Ryun, rector Jo Soo Won and the staff members are all part of a team I love, so I decided to act in that drama. However, when I watched the drama, I felt my acting inĀ āPinocchioā was much better. It seems I do better when I am able to relax myself rather than using all my attention to analyse every detail before acting, that is quite amazing to me.
W: During your resting period, did you watch any dramas?
I watched the dramas I participated in in chronological order, about two or three episodes per day. It was quite interesting to see how my acting was improving.
W: You seem to not suit dramas that are preproduced then?
I think Iād be very exhausted. My motivation to overcome the sense of inferiority when I act is when I see the reaction after it is broadcasted. This time, the drama began filming quite early, so I unfortunately couldnāt receive that feedback and turn it into motivation. When the script comes out just a few days before it airs and you are filming to match the broadcast date, the body becomes very tired but audience feedback fills me with energy.
W: If you werenāt an actor, what would you be doing?
Probably nothing. Since my parents are running a pension, maybe I would help out there.
W: If you donāt get to know anyone new, what do you talk about you with your staff members?
I seldom make conversation; our dialogue is usually confined to asking about todayās schedule. Everyone is pretty self-involved, so we all have our own trials and emotions. I find it difficult to put my troubles into words, so I donāt really chat with people around me.
W: What makes you happy?
Going on a trip and buying food from the seaside, that kind of stuff. Iām the type that donāt need to go on a specific trip, I only need to stay at home for a day or two. Itās not because Iām a star and I worry about peopleās gaze that I donāt go to places with lots of people; I had never liked to leave home even before. Even when I really had no money and I just had 5000won, I would take a taxi home instead of going for good food.
W: What is the thing you believe most about yourself?
Obstinance with details. If there is something I donāt like when checking my own acting, I would watch that repeatedly for 300 times ā the full shot, waist shot and bust shot, all of them. If that can be counted as a good point about myself, then it is.
Pictures Any Dog Owners Will Understand.
Precious cinnamon buns, too good for this world, too pure.
Guys, this is pretty damn AMAZING if I can say so myself! In 2002 I was at my heaviest weight ever, 210 freaking pounds! ā Since then Iāve been on a roller coaster ride trying every quick fix out there where I would lose weight then gain it all back. ā When I signed up as a coach with Focus T25 I was already at my goal weight but I wasnāt fit, strong or healthy I was just SKINNY! ā 125 pounds was what I had in my head I HAD TO weigh in order to look GOOD. ā Boy was I WRONG!!!! ā I weigh more now than I have in a LONG TIME and it was starting to play with my head until I REALLY started looking at myself, my life, my body. ā I feel and look better NOW than I EVER have!! Please DONāT look at those BMI charts those will royally F with your head!!!

Overall Mark: 48/50 - 96%

I LOVE IT! Oh My Venus will always have a special place in my heart. I think it is one of the best romantic comedies in drama land :D
The plot wasnāt really original because a man helping out a woman to lose weight after her breakup has appeared in so many books and movies. However the cast did such a good job and it felt so real (I am sad because itās not real :ā( *cries*).
Kang Joo Eun is a 33 year old lawyer who was once known as her townās Daegu Venus (a nickname she got during high school because she was very beautiful and had an envied body).
However 15 years later she has become chubby. To make it worst, her boyfriend and first love of 15 years, Im Woo Shik, decides to break up with her when she thought he was going to propose, to be with Oh Soo Jin, her friend who she hasnāt meant for awhile and was chubby during her school years.
Upset and angry she just happens to meet Kim Young Ho, also known as John Kim in America where nobody knows what heĀ looks like. He is known for helping celebrities transform their body. He was involved in a big scandal and decided to go to Korea for a bit with his twoĀ friends/students/kids, Jang Joon Sung and Kim Ji WoongĀ (itās the two guys in the above gif).
She somehow convinces him to train her which he reluctantly agrees. From their they train together and go through health issues and fall in love.
Iām laughing so hard at the above gif AHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA XD
The two main have amazing chemistry together, one of the best in my opinion I mean just look at this! Itās one of their iconic actions XD
CAST: Shin Min Ah as Kang Joo EunĀ - Sheās a great character and so beautiful <3
So Ji Sub as Kim Young Ho/John Kim - CAN WE TAKE A MINUTE TO APPRECIATE HOW GOOD HE LOOKS FOR HIS AGE (38) <3 <3 <3 Heās also a great character! I felt myself yearning for someone like him HAHA ;P
Jung Gyu Woon as Im Woo Shik - I disliked him a lot throughout the drama but everything is resolved at the end so all good now ;) I also mistakened him for young Kim Young Ho in the beginning when he appeared.
Yoo In Young as Oh Soo Jin - I disliked her even more then the ex boyfriend. She was annoying and had this weird haircut. But again everything was resolved at the end so ;)
Sung Hoon as Jang Joon Sung - Heās a pro boxer that goes to Korea to enter competition and is known as Korea Snake. I think heās a great guy. Heās so nice and isnāt mean or arrogant to Joo Eun when heĀ helps train her or to anyone really. He also gets his own small plot and love line which I really SUPPORT!!!
Sheās so persistent I love it!!!!! XD^^^^^^^
Henry LauĀ as Kim Ji Woong - Henry did such a good job! I never knew he was an actor but anyway he was so funny and caring. HE supported Joo Eun right at the beginning when he met her and also ships Joon Sung with the CF Queen (gif above).
Jung Hye Sung as Jang Yi Jin/CF Queen (she calls herself that AHAHA) - Usually I would hate characters like her but surprisingly I really shipped Joon Sung and her together. She was a fan of him and kept chasing him around for a whole year which is a nice change from the guy chasing. I really love lovelines where the girl chases after the guy and he doesnāt like her in the beginning but changes later when she stops chasing.
Choi Jin Ho as Min Byung Wook/Chief Min - He plays Kim Young Ho right-hand man and seriously he is one of the best. He truly cares for Young Ho and is extremely loyalĀ as he has known him from a young age already.
Heās the one in glasses O-O
Thank so much for listening to me ramble! This review was a bit longer then expected cause Iām summing up the whole drama but next time it would be a more one ep or two ep review. ;)
Do I recommend this drama? YES!
P.S recommend dramas like this please :D in the request box! I watch all kinds of language - Korean, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, China and Singapore!

Joseph ChangĀ å¼ åå Ø
He is not the so-called flower boy type nor is he the perfectly chiseled Adonis type. But thereās just something about him. I donāt know what it isā¦heās the type who grows on you. It may be because of how he plays his roles. Heās a fine actor. Just sort of like how I feel about Ethan Ruan. They are the type one canāt help but like.Ā
