“Vitoria,” her tone uncharacteristically sharp when addressing their younger sister. “We would never kidnap anyone for personal gain or power. That’s beneath us,” she huffed. She didn’t think such commentary would assist in mending the riff between the two. Helena hid behind her planner to frown in peace. “Can we, at least, keep the current number of security? It’s hard move without being crowded already.” She resigned to Maite’s requests as always. “We’ll offer aid wherever it’s needed be it sympathy or otherwise, within reason of course.”

“ As if we really cared about the people on that plane or their families.” Well technically Vitória cared about Xiuying so that was partially true. “ At least now, nobody remembers that someone almost died at my boat party.” Amazing how the news cycle moved fast. The foolish princess had not even needed to release a statement about it and the whole thing was in the past. All the press talked about now was the missing plane. “ I assume that you don’t want me to talk to anyone ? ” Maitê most likely would entrust Helena and Miguel with the PR stunts. “I’m the genius of our family, aren’t I?” Helena rummaged through the oversized tote that hung off her shoulder. Maite’s request for deeper knowledge of the events leading up the unfortunate plunge into the depths on that boat wouldn’t be an easy task. Vitoria kept her secrets close to her vest; it was her leverage in the family. Helena needed to be creative and play to the young girl’s obvious mischief. “Stop using your tatas as a get out of jail card, okay? One day I might see a nip and I’ll cry.” She tossed the tasteful red wig at Vitoria before fitting the longer black wig on her own head.

 “I may have snagged a few plain black outfits that staff use, we’re going to play dress up like we used to do when you were a baby. I hope your acting skills have improved.” 

“ Sure you are.” Vitória was certainly not the genius of the family. Helena could keep that title, among others. “ It works most time you know. ” Flashing money also was a good way to get out of a bad situation. “ Don’t act like a nipple would offend you.” She laughed. As if her sister had never seen a pair of breasts before. 

She toyed with the wig. “ Red ? Can’t I be blonde ? This colour is not great.” She was not sure it would go with her complexion. “ Who do we know that is a redhead hottie ? That might help me get in character. ” She could not help but being difficult as always. “ I’m a great actress. You know how much work it takes to look contrite when I get scolded or have to record a public apology. Or how I can pretend to be interested when people talk about public transport network or lame things like that. Or fake an orgasm. ” Vitória could do a fine job when she wanted to. Unfortunately she lacked the will to do so most of the time. “ And I’ll do pretty much anything to escape this place and Tete.”

“ Really ?! ” Vitória perked up. Helena had her sister’s full attention. “ How ?” They had been held like prisoners for what felt like forever. “ If you think about flashing your boobs or reais bills, I already did and it didn’t work.” The soldiers had not moved one inch which had been terribly annoying.

“She’s just joking,” her voice lower as not to agitate the fragile calm that washed over the room. It wasn’t everyday they got to spend any time together without one of the three of them fighting. “..not the best time for jokes but Vi is just processing what happened like we all are. Unfortunately, even if correlation doesn’t mean causation, it isn’t the way we hoped carnaval  would conclude.”

He looks up from what he’s reading and regards Vitória. He’s no longer sure if this is still a defense mechanism or if she’s just— “No. The programme was responsible for the flights, not us.” He glances at Maitê, shakes his head subtly. It was a bad idea to tell Vitória what not to do.  @vitoriadobrasil··

“ It wasn’t a joke.” Vitória appreciated Helena’s trying to defend her but she truly wondered if her family was responsible of the plane’s disappearance. “ Like if we kidnapped them, we could make China or any of those countries our bitch ! ” She tried to sound intelligent, as if she had any idea about what she was talking about. Not seeing that the missing royals harmed Brazil and its reputation. “ So you think the program kidnapped them ? ” She turned to her brother. ( @maitedobrasil· )

He was already a few drinks in when he thought he saw a familiar face and the party atmosphere did nothing to deter him from being friendly. After all, he couldn’t be bothered to do up the buttons of his shirt. It was far too warm for that anyway.

“ Bold of you to assume I know who you are. ” Vitória had never seen him period. “ But I’m happy you’re having fun ! That’s a nice look for you ! Let’s go dance ! ” She took the man’s hand in hers.

         he swore he’d only been gone a couple of minutes,   it had been a nasty line trying to get some water bottles,   but when he returned to where he had left his sister,   someone else seemed to have occupied her seat instead.     “  uh   —  ”    this was awkward,   “  have you seen my sister ?   the nice, pretty one who is always smiling  —   not the mean,  grouchy one with a scowl on her face.   ”
