DDR Max is my personal benchmark for the Y2K aesthetic in gaming and music as it really was at the time and not just in its modern retrospective incarnations. There is trance & eurodance, but there is also house, R&B and hip hop, and it feels completely natural to me. Your Y2K throwback needs to be blacker if you wanna do it justice, I think. There has to be techy shiny surfaces and low poly breakdancers with baggy pants. you gotta hit both robert miles and missy elliot.
