Happy 10th Birthday UNDERTALE! It pains me that I couldn’t make some super cool big art because I’ve been busy, so I’ll share some very old (and cringe) drawings I’ve done over the years. (And an old video of me and my brother :)
Rant about UNDERTALE and how great it is under the cut vv (˶ˆᗜˆ˵)
UNDERTALE is my absolute favorite game of all time. It holds the specialist place in my heart. I got into it when I was around 11 years old, and I’ve never grown out of it. I used to imagine my entire life as if I was Frisk. Every time my mom made spaghetti, I would imagine Papyrus had just cooked me some. Every time I was in PE, I’d imagine I was training with Undyne. Every time I was doing homework, I would imagine Alphys helping me. I imagined Chara, floating around me and telling me to do devious things like eat more chocolate than I was supposed to. I imagined sans and Toriel laughing at my bad jokes, Mettaton singing with me, and Asriel hugging me when I felt sad. Hell I even imagined that I was carrying around Flowey with me everywhere I went. (Sometimes I would forget to not speak aloud, I definitely got weird looks). I went through my life with my favorite characters by my side, and I can’t remember I time I felt happier. It allowed me to fully embrace a side of me I never knew and I flourished with creativity and wonder. UNDERTALE connected me with my brother, as he was the one who introduced me to it. One of my favorite memories I share with him is watching him beat Sans in the backseat of my mom’s car. I was (and still am) horrible at all the fights in the game, so watching him beat the hardest fight was awe inspiring.
UNDERTALE also inspired me artistically. I don’t think I would be as into art as I am without it. It exposed me to a whole community of artists that have pushed me to go beyond the boundaries of what I ever thought was possible for myself. So many talented people that I found pushed me to strive to create. I’ve chosen my career path as an artist thanks to UNDERTALE. A long time ago I vowed to make an entire animated film of the entirety of the game…I haven’t quite gotten started on that, but maybe by the time the 20th anniversary comes around I’ll have something to show. It also inspired me musically. I have vowed to play every UNDERTALE song on the piano…and this I’ve actually been keeping my word on!! Toby Fox is so wonderfully talented in game design, but holy moly the music is just otherworldly. I used to listen to the soundtrack on YouTube everyday after school and scroll through the comments while each song played. Every year for my Spotify wrapped Toby is always my top artist.
If you made it this far, you sure do like to read lol. Overall, UNDERTALE has been one of the biggest and greatest experiences of my life that has changed me for the better. There is truely not enough words in all the alternate universes out there to convey the way I feel about it. From the gorgeous animations, to the hilarious, and slightly cringey comic dubs I was obsessed with, UNDERTALE has forever settled itself into my character.
