#Gamergate was started by men who wanted to shame and harass a female game dev, and the term coined by a a celebrity gamer with a history of sexist comments online. If you want a movement that changes gaming, it's NOT "Gamer Gate." GG is about threatening three women out of their homes. But you'd rather continue a movement that is a vehicle for that. Disgusting.
Actually, Gamergate was started by Adam Baldwin.
But the movement that led to Gamergate, 5Guys, isn’t what you say it is. 5Guys was the disgust at the blatant use of sex to get something Zoe wanted. It is about the disgusting behavior, the hypocrisy and nepotism involved with the whole thing.
Zoe slept with her boss. She slept with Robin Arnette. She slept with Nathan Greyson. Of those, two had direct benefits to her, her boss and Arnette. Greyson denies the relationship happened while he wrote positively about her but pictures of them acting chummy came forward afterward that pretty much shoots that argument down. At best, they were close friends, at worst they were sleeping together. Either one was a conflict of interest that Greyson didn’t disclose until he got caught.
Zoe also attacked and set her cronies on TFYC. It ended up nearly destroying the charity. She blamed Wizardchan for harassing her, which they proved false.
The hypocrisy is that if she were a man, she’d be hung out to dry. In the last year, TWO scandals hit gaming. The creator of CAH was accused of rape, and a dude sent sexual texts to a game dev. Both were covered extensively by the game journalists. But not Zoe Quinn. When it was a man, their private lives were fair game, when it was a woman, her private life was sacred.
Holding somebody accountable is not harassment.
And, see, here’s the thing. None of those threats actually are linked to Gamergate. You can’t do it. There is no proof. You’d like it to be, so you can shut Gamergate up, but you can’t.
You seem to forget that #notyourshield is a thing. You seem to forget that Gamergate has called for the resignation of several male journos. You seem to forget that Gamergaters have been doxxed, threatened, harassed and some have lost their jobs due to at work harassment.
Holding people accountable for their actions is not harassment. Gamergate has repeatedly helped take down harassers, ones even targeting Anita Sarkeesian. But you don’t care about that. Not really. That would hurt your narrative.
