(Jessica Chastain/46/ciswoman/she/her) Vixey Cameron has been in Eden Ros for two years, and is from Isle of Skye, Scotland. She is 46 and works at Ol’ Pav as an Events Coordinator/incoming Owner. Rumor has it, she’s a selkie associated with Pelagi. She is steadfast and compassionate, but also compulsive and shallow.
Headcannons
Vixey has spent her entire life in and around the ocean. Born to selkie parents on the Isle of Skye, Vixey has never known a life away from the sea, and it’s for the best for obvious reasons. As a child she spent lots of time in the ocean in her selkie form, but as she’s gotten older she spends more time on land because she likes the attention in her human form.
Growing up she had a deep passion for performing. From a young age Vixey would put on performances for her family and would convince cousins or friends to “star” in her shows. There was always one condition, though - that Vixey got to be the leading lady. She had never been one for sharing the spotlight.
Her love for performing followed her all throughout school. Vixey was the lead in school plays and musicals, charming her way through every audition, she truly thought she could do no wrong on stage. She attended school in Edinburgh and majored in performance. She left school with an offer to travel to NYC to audition for a graduate program, but she turned it down and accepted an internship as a performer on a cruise instead.
When Vixey was in her twenties her parents moved to Eden Ros and bought a gorgeous events venue, Ol’ Pav, with sweeping views of the Scotland coast. She only visited once prior to now.
Vixey spent twenty-four years working for various forms of ocean liners. From taking center stage on some of the biggest liners in the world to performing for intimate crowds on yachts for birthdays. If it’s a gig on the water that involves performing, Vixey’s done it.
Unfortunately, she suffered a rough fall while performing as Donna in Mamma Mia on a Mediterranean Cruise and it was recommended that she recover at home rather than at sea. After much devastation (and dramatics) over cutting short one of her favorite contracts to date (tied with her run as Roxie in Chicago years ago), Vixey decided to join her elderly parents in Eden Ros for her recovery. What was meant to be a six week stay has turned into two years and now Vixey’s parents want to hand down ownership of the events venue to her. She’s caught between wanting to return to open seas, while wondering if it might be time for her to attempt to start a new chapter. For the last year or so she’s been working as the events coordinator at Ol’ Pav and dreading the thought of her parents passing the baton.
As soon as she heard the crunching of the pebbles of the pathway to the doors of Ol' Pav Vixey knew one of three situations was likely. One, her parents had scheduled a tour for an event and failed to tell Vixey, two, her parents had scheduled a tour for an event and straight up forgot about it, or three, someone was just dropping by.
A fourth possibility could've been a delivery they'd all forgotten about as well. And most of these scenarios involving someone forgetting didn't seem to bode well for the red head. She'd also only just come in from a swim a few minutes ago and hardly had time to securely stash her pelt. The thought of someone sneaking upon them while she was out in form made her uneasy.
But that was just her overthinking, as she did for most things nowadays. What happened to the old Vixey, who used to salivate at the thought of a little danger or a grand adventure? she thought. Was she turning into her parents as she aged? She hated that thought.
"If you're here for a tour of the venue I fear you're out of luck." As she spoke she rose from an oversized white lounger just off to the side of the stone structure, donning a red one piece swimsuit and tiny cream netted skirt cover-up. If she closed her eyes she could pretend she was on the Mediterranean but the slight chill in the air kept her grounded in Ireland.
"I also have to apologize as we're usually much more ready to show it but it's rather dusty and there are boxes everywhere as a few rooms are getting a little upgrade." Upgrade felt like a strange word to use as they were enhancing some of the more classical features of the building but explaining that felt a little too much like rambling and she had already started to do that without the clarification.
The music was vibrating the walls of her office and Fiadh tapped her fingers across her desk for a moment considering if it was worth pushing things off until later. There were always the wee hours of the morning to be serious. Her fingers stopped and she stared at her door for the briefest moment before deciding it was in fact worth it.
Flashing lights and a booming song welcomed her into the eternal party she had managed to curate for herself. She smiled at those who met her eyes as she made her way to the bar. Fiadh was hard to miss as the reflections of the disco ball never quite reached her as her own skin emit just enough of it's own light it was almost as she had her own spot light. To create that magic she had her lighting guys play with the levels so it wouldn't be brighter than her when the disco ball spun on it's own. It brought her joy to control reality where she could.
Joining someone at the bar who was just receiving their drink, Fiadh grabbed the attention of the bartender before they could pay and cut in, "put it on my tab with my usual." She turned to the other, "tell me, how's your night?"
Harvest Gold took Vixey back to parties on the ships. Every voyage was different, every ocean liner had its own quirks, but many of them at least made an attempt to recreate a viable dance floor for cruisers who craved a little party atmosphere. Though the vibes here were far more extravagant and Vixey was a big fan.
She adored sparkling under the lights though tonight she'd opted for a more subdued look - a classic little black dress with a black sequin trim that hit perfectly mid thigh and a black pair of heels. She enjoyed a brighter look but something about black complimented her red hair perfectly.
At the bar she was just about to pay for her martini when the bartender was stopped by a beautiful woman, radiant even. As Vixey's fingers wrapped around the stem of the glass she couldn't help but look over and thank her. "Thank you." Her lips pursed together. "And it's fun!" Her eyes wandered around the bar for a couple of seconds before finding those of her new companion again. "I like this place. What's your usual?" She inquired about their own drink while brining her own to her lips for a slow sip.
The man had seen the redhead around the diner before. Not quite a regular, at least not yet, but she’d come in often enough that Todd recognized her face. Usually, she was with an older couple. Sweet folks, the kind who always left with a slice of pie to go. Todd had long since made it a habit to warm up extra syrup whenever they walked through the door. Pancake people, through and through. Apparently, it ran in the family.
He’d noticed her preference for the blueberry pancakes, and Todd would’ve bet his shotgun she’d order them before she’d even settled onto the barstool. There was no need to write it down. Instead, he simply reached for a mug, already pouring her coffee. By now, it was practically muscle memory.
“Blueberry pancakes coming right up. Black coffee, one sugar.” He set the mug in front of her with an easy smile. “You feeling butter today, or warm syrup on the pancakes?”
Vixey hadn't asked for a packet of sugar but somehow the man before her knew to offer it. Maybe it was just a diner thing but it was more fun to think he had some kind of epic memory. Though it would've been incorrect to say that Vixey could go places unnoticed. Even in Ireland her long red locks often stuck out. It didn't help that she hardly left the house without her signature red lip. She didn't really try to deter attention from herself. Plus she figured people may have known of her considering her parents had lived here for 20 years now. Whatever the reason had been it was awfully strange she was sitting her overthinking it right now!
"Thank you." Vixey spoke and smiled sweetly. "No butter, but definitely warm syrup, please."
After he poured the coffee Vixey fixed it with just the right amount of sugar and brought the mug to her lips. Coffee had become a bit of a lifeline for her while on ships but she hardly had the chance to enjoy it via ceramic mugs. Being home these last two years had taught her to at least try to slow down and enjoy the taste of the coffee. Try being the key word there. Slowing down didn't exactly come easy to Vixey.
Vixey took a slow sip and brought the mug back to the table and her eyes met the man's once again. "How did you know?" She asked, not being able to help herself. "About the sugar?" Her question was more curious than direct. She didn't want him to think she was interrogating him. "I didn't ask for it. Not this time, anyway." Surely she had on a previous visit because she did need just a touch. "But you knew to bring it." Now she was just dragging this out.
"You know what, actually I didn't mean to put you on the spot like that. It's probably just a normal thing to do." And now she's making a fool of herself, great! She thought.
Vixey lives and breathes for social events. As she's gotten older she's realized she doesn't need to be the center of attention to fully enjoy the event but it definitely doesn't hurt. Unless of course the reason for the attention is negative in any way - then she wants nothing to do with it.
🕳️ : what do they spiral about at night?
Currently about the fact that she's 46 and living at home with no job, no friends, and no prospects. Which is just her being dramatic because she does have a job that her parents secured for her at Ol' Pav, and she does have friends. She also frequently wonders if she made the right decision by coming home instead of trying to recover on the open seas. And if that decision will keep her from performing ever again. And after all of that spiraling she takes herself out for a little swim.
🪤 : what pattern do they keep falling back into?
Vixey loves patterns and making not so great life choices for herself. A big one has to do with relationships or rather avoiding relationships. She loves a date and a night together but don't call it a date because dates are serious, and serious is scary. Avoidance is her favorite pattern.
✅ : what do they pretend to have together that they don't?
Plans she has for the future. If anyone asks she'll talk about how she can't wait to leave home to get back to her cruising but the truth is she's enjoyed being home the last two years recovering with her family. And that scares her because she's always been one for an adventure away from home. Staying feels like settling and Vixey hates to settle.
🧱 : what walls are they aware of building? which ones are they not aware of?
Vixey knows that she runs from trouble, sometimes in a dramatic fashion. She somewhat abruptly left a contract for a role on one ship for another. As far as everyone knew it was because she was offered a better role in a show she was more interested in and that part isn't a lie! She just auditioned for that contract because she was starting to catch some feelings for someone on the other ship and knew they felt the same and she didn't want to deal with all of that.
She doesn't know that her fear of commitment and security is holding her back. Vixey will make every excuse under the sun for why she makes the choices that she does.
🖊️ : do they write things down or let thoughts rot in their head?
In Vixey's mind writing thoughts down will make them real. She makes simple notes like grocery or task lists, but she won't dare journal or keep any sort of personal diary. Those thoughts will come back to haunt her and she's not about that life.
The smell of coffee and bacon wrapped around every customer walking through the main doors, 500 Miles playing softly through the speakers while the waitresses made sure everyone’s cup of joe stayed full.
It was a usual early morning: busy booths, the bell from the kitchen ringing, and Todd at the grill flipping pancakes, a towel over his shoulder and his flannel tugged up to his elbows. He added extra blueberries when he noticed the usual 8 a.m. customer sitting at the bar. One of the regulars — and he already knew they needed an extra bit of pancake goodness before heading off to work.
The customer had barely sat down before Todd was there with a fresh cup of black coffee and a plate of pancakes in front of them.
“The usual this morning?” His smile was faint, but already there, welcoming anyone in with carbs and caffeine.
Even while stacking dirty dishes and wiping down the counter, Todd’s eyes drifted for a second whenever the door rang with someone new walking in.
“Morning. Know what you wanna order?” Todd asked as they sat down, menu in hand, while he came over with a fresh pot of coffee.
The funny thing about Vixey is that prior to her arrival in Eden Ros she kind of hated blueberries. They were inconsistent - sometimes mushy, occasionally sweet but also sour. No bunch was ever the same and despite all of her efforts to enjoy the fruit alone or with something like yogurt she just couldn't stand them.
So it was safe to say she even surprised herself when she ended up with blueberry pancakes at the Dumont Diner and enjoyed them. From then on she vowed she wouldn't try fresh blueberries again but maybe they weren't so bad baked into something.
Today she had a long list of tasks to accomplish related to Ol' Pav. Most were easy and only one involved a phone call, which was a real treat. Though Vixey loved a good gab over the phone, she hated making phone calls for work or appointments - unless of course those phone calls involved her booking a job. God, she missed those. But nothing of the sort was on the list today. Just a phone call to a vendor. It'd take her ten minutes, maybe.
But breakfast was necessary before anything else. She'd only been to the diner four times now, and three of those times were with her elderly parents. They had left for a few weeks on a holiday of their own now that their daughter was 'fully recovered.' Though she'd been recovered for months now. The last time she'd been to the diner, which was earlier this spring, her arm was still in a sling.
She took a seat at the bar of the diner and smiled at the man asking for her order. "Two blueberry pancakes, please." She said sweetly, her red locks falling from her loosely tied ponytail. "And a black coffee." She'd add a packet of sugar but she gave up on asking for sugar to be added years ago. No place had ever gotten her preferred ratio right. "Thank you." she added.
who: open
where: annual solstice jubilee, morning dip
The morning dip seemed like a good idea about an hour ago. Very fun, very whimsy, even. Nice crowd, vendors setting up, hot coffee on the horizon? All he needs is a warm pastry and he's set.
Except...after frolicking in the sea, he stands at the edge of the surf, a shiver beginning to set in, and staring at the empty patch of sand where his things should be. No shirt, no towel, no shoes?
He knows exactly who the culprit is and he wonders what crime he's committed this time. Had it been the Love Island commentary? In his defense, not everyone has the discipline to explain six different interpersonal disasters over a pint. Had he taken his shirt off too often this week? Had he finished off her last bottle?
His list of possible offenses is endless, it seems, so he folds his arms over his chest and scans the shoreline for the nearest person. Warmth first, revenge later. "Morning!" he calls out, tries to hide the slight tremor because he's not a wimp. "I don't suppose you have any uh...clothes or anything to spare, do you? A towel? I'll pay you back, trust." His smile tightens painfully as another gust of wind hits him.
Though Vixey wasn't about to participate in the morning dip, she also wasn't about to pass up on the opportunity to bask in the morning sun. It was something she could've done on a cliff near her cottage but it just felt different on the beach. Sand between her toes was one of her favorite feelings in the world. Plus the views at the dip wouldn't be half bad, and she wasn't thinking about those of the ocean.
It wasn't a proper trip to the beach without her bag stocked full with the essentials. Though Vixey was well equipped to fare the ocean blue with nothing but the skin on her back, being a selkie and all, she was a fan of things. A blanket to sit on, a luxurious towel for drying off, beach cover ups, skincare items.. It was just nice to pretend she was normal, which she sort of was while in human form. Oh, and a woven sun hat that currently sat perfectly atop her red locks that occasionally whipped around her face in the wind.
"Hmm?" She turned at the sound of a voice calling from a few paces down the beach. Then she squinted. "Avi?" She questioned. "Clothes?" Vixey calls, a little louder now so he can hear her. As the wind blows again she grabs the top of her hat to hold it securely on her head. "Did you lose yours?" Perhaps it was a stupid question but now she was curious.
"I have a towel, and an extra coverup." A cute little knitted top that stopped just above her knees. It at least had sleeves, though it was loosely knitted so there were holes. "It might not be your style, but I'd be happy to lend it to you." She had opted for a pair of black athletic leggings and an oversized and loosely fitted cream colored sweater herself. Even two years later she couldn't help but miss the Mediterranean sea she'd left so abruptly. It'd be warmer there at 8 in the morning.
