The realisation hits you like a punch in the gut, the air abandoning your lungs as you repeat your best friend's words in your head on a loop.
“You were the one that got away. I just wish I'd have told you back then, maybe things would be different.”
Your throat feels tight as you try to swallow, searching his dark eyes for deception but seeing none. Your friendship with him races through your mind, every minute detail trudged up from memory as you analyse it all, looking at it with a fresh perspective.
He had been your first proper boyfriend, which had been an adjustment in itself.
You'd known each other your whole lives, with your mothers being best friends it was only natural you would spend so much time with him. He had always been a permanent fixture, there for you at every bump and turn, so when you both became teenagers, the pressures of adolescents and school took over. Feeling the pressure, you'd started dating, nothing much changed at first until a game of suck and blow at a friend's party.
You had kissed. A first for you, not just with him, and it was a milestone you'd gladly given him. And while your heart had soared, he had expressed his doubts to you about continuing on with your relationship, this leading to your first heartbreak; at the hands of your best friend.
Not wanting to lose him, you'd forced yourself to get past it and move on…straight into the arms of Taehyung.
Taehyung ~
A sweet boy, who was in many of your lessons. With a habit of being the centre of attention and always making people laugh; the resident class clown, but was endearing and always kind to you.
There was no doubt of his popularity, the most handsome boy in your school with girls always vying for his attention. But it was you who received it, and the two of you began dating towards the end of school. His affection was obvious, with grand gestures in front of the other students, hand holding in the corridors and heavy make out sessions after school.
Your best friend and ex did not like him. He thought he was too loud, too arrogant and you deserved better. But you had ignored all advice and warnings he had given and instead threw yourself into it. Your relationship grew serious fast, and you both fell head over heels for each other, leading you to give Taehyung a different milestone of yours. Yourself.
The first time you were scared, but he made sure it was perfect; candles, rose petals, everything you could want. It was a beautiful moment, with every time after that your confidence and enjoyment only grew.
Everything in your life felt like it was going right…until you left school. You and Taehyung had been accepted into different colleges, too far apart to realistically continue your relationship, resulting in your second heartbreak.
But who had been there to pick up the pieces? Him. Your most trusted friend. The one who was accompanying you on this journey into the next chapter of student life.
He had held you while you cried, watched your favourite movies with you to help cheer you up and learned to cook your favourite meals, just to see you smile again. Although you wistfully wished he would want you more than as a friend, you would not risk his involvement in your life. He meant too much to you.
And before long, with his help, you had gotten over Taehyung.
Yoongi ~
During your time at college you met many interesting people, Yoongi was definitely one of them. After being paired up on a project, you'd started dating, albeit awkwardly. He had many desirable qualities, most obviously; he was handsome in a brooding and mysterious sort of way. That had been your initial attraction, but the more time you spent together on that project, the more you discovered how sweet and incredibly smart he was.
You asked him out, and he shyly agreed. He was endearing and cute, always had his nose in a book, or spouted off interesting facts, he was the first to finish his homework and even asked for extra. He was focused and kept his head down, and that led to him being a straight A student. Being the brightest student in school wasn't easy, but he made it look like it was.
You also liked being the more assertive one in your relationship, as well as vying for his attention, but after two short months, you got bored, and it dwindled out.
The problem was, as interesting as you found him, he had more interest in his studies than you. Not that it was a bad thing; he's probably made something of himself by now and is living a great life, but at the time you wanted someone to want you and unfortunately, that just wasn't him.
This break up had no tears, no tantrums, just two young adults agreeing to go their separate ways.
Your ego took a slight hit by this though, and the unwavering support of your best friend saved the day again. He showered you with compliments, sent you morning texts consisting of “hey beautiful,” and “wassup pretty girl,”. Without being asked, he somehow knew exactly what you needed to hear.
And just a few short weeks later, you went from one extreme to the other…
Hoseok ~
His smile lit up the room like a sunrise, making even the most miserable day seem brighter.
He took an interest in you instantly and showered you with attention.
He was an old-fashioned romantic; holding every door open, pushing your chair in when you took a seat, even carrying your bag when you went out, it was endearing…at first. After only two weeks he wanted to see you everyday, if you couldn't, he'd send flowers to your dorm, or slip love notes under your door. It was lovely but was beginning to feel a bit suffocating. During week three he confessed his love for you, that was when you knew you had to end it.
He had sat there silently while you explained, and before he left, gave you the saddest smile you'd ever seen. That was the first time you'd broken someone's heart.
And once again, your bestie came to the rescue, as usual.
A few weeks later he introduced you to one of his new friends; a co-worker at his weekend job.
Jimin ~
Whenever there had been a gathering, a party or just an evening of food, drinks and games, he would bring Jimin along too. He slotted in nicely with your friend group and very quickly became a regular staple. You're not sure when, but flirtatious glances and lingering touches had turned into a slightly drunken night of great sex.The next morning, waking up next to each other had been awkward, but you had both agreed to resume your friendship and never speak of the previous night. That is until it happened again.
Another night of the best sex you'd ever had. This time, however, you decided a conversation was necessary, and after an hour of debating you both agreed a relationship was not what either of you wanted. And so began a very casual agreement between friends that continued well after you'd left college. You would hang out with your friends and then, after saying your goodbyes, would sneak off to Jimin. It became such a routine that over time you both got bored of it, and great sex was just…sex. Structured, passionless and pointless.
Thankfully you were both in agreement on ending your arrangement and could continue your friendship.
When he found out about it, that's when everything changed. That's when life as you knew it was never the same. He distanced himself from you and no matter how hard you tried to cling to him and persuade him back, he refused.
You couldn't understand his anger, but you tried to defuse it none-the-less, to no avail. He maintained his distance, and your heartbreak only grew.
You needed him like you needed air, and without him it was hard to breathe. He had always been such a fixture in your life; a part of you. Without him it was like walking around without a limb.
And after months of adjusting to a new way of living, you needed a release.
A night out with the girls was how you met Joon.
Namjoon ~
There was not much to say about Namjoon. You didn't really know anything about him. His dimples made him endearing, and for your brief conversation, he was charming. That was about as far as your interaction went.
But after one too many drinks, you'd ended up back at his apartment and had your first clumsy one night stand.
The next morning with your mouth dry and your head pounding, with him still asleep beside you, you gathered your clothes and snuck out. The journey home, hungover and feeling ashamed, had not been the best, you had made a vow you would never do this again.
Getting home and climbing into bed, burying yourself in the sheets wishing he was here with you. Missing him more than ever even after the time apart.
At first you'd seen him here and there; he was polite, trying not to make things awkward but remained distant. For the first time in your life, you felt truly unwanted and unloveable. He couldn't stand being around you, were you that unbearable to be friends with?
Eventually you didn't see him at all. Only hearing things about him from your mutual friends but as life went on and got busier you soldiered on.
Until you met…Jin.
Jin ~
Jin came along and swooped you off your feet. The whole thing was like something straight out of a movie. He was older than you, and perhaps that's why it worked so well. He was ready to settle down, there were no games, no pretenses. He always gave you just as much effort as you gave him. He was present and keen to be with you. Cooking for you, arranging surprise weekend breaks away, buying you gifts for no reason. Always there and always supportive of your choices and career.
After two years of dating you moved in with him.
And another year after that, you got the promotion you had dreamed of but it meant longer work days and more stress. But you were finally at a position in life where you wanted.
Jin broached the subject of marriage and children first. He hesitantly put it out there to see how you'd react. Of course you wanted those things, but was now the right time? You didn't think so. When you expressed that, things started to change.
You and Jin were arguing more frequently; he was always complaining about how much you worked, how little he saw you. With both of your hectic work schedules it was difficult but it was only temporary. Jin was up for a promotion too, his meant more freedom. But that came and went, when he was overlooked for a younger colleague.
He was devastated. You'd try to convince him that maybe he just needed to move companies, that he would get treated better elsewhere. But he refused, he needed time.
In his anger though he lashed out…at you. He picked fights over every little thing and something deep in your gut was warning you to tread carefully, otherwise you could lose him for good.
You surprised him with a trip away, a week in Italy. Romantic dinners and hand-in-hand walks through the cobbled streets. Smiles and sex. Everything felt great again when you returned, and he took your advice, looking for jobs elsewhere.
But after a few months the same problems returned. Constant fights, tears, followed by the most shocking news of all.
He'd been acting strange for a few weeks, no longer picking fights but instead, being absolutely perfect. Attentive, understanding and needy.
A feeling deep in your gut stirred one night while he was asleep, taking his phone off the bed stand you searched, for what you do not know, but when you found it you were in utter disbelief.
A message thread between him and his new and younger secretary…they'd slept together one time at work and since then he had been trying to get her to back off.
Your sweet, kind Jin. How could he be the one to do this to you? After all this time together…how could he? And in the most clichéd way possible.
Your fury woke him in the middle of the night, and you'd thrown him out in your rage.
Two days later you were calmer and agreed to discuss it. Back and forth blaming, yelling and more tears, you both agreed to take a break.
You went and stayed with one of your girlfriends and nursed your broken heart.
Unsure if you could forgive him, you had agreed to stay on a break but still attempted dating again, hoping to rekindle something you must have lost along the way.
It didn't feel the same, no matter how the two of you tried. You could not stop picturing him with her and you could not move past it.
You'd told him it was over and he had begged for you to stay but knowing what your relationship was like before this would only make matters worse. You packed your stuff and left, finding a new apartment and moving.
A year on and an invitation to a wedding had a smile spreading from ear to ear. One of your college friends was getting married and she was one of the only ones you still spoke to from that old group.
When the day came, your silk dress clung perfectly to you, your hair and makeup fitting and you watched them say their vows. Two people so in love, so perfect for each other, you envied them.
The day is perfect, the food delicious but when you step outside to get some air, a familiar voice behind you stops you in your tracks.
“I was wondering if I'd see you here.” Jungkook spoke. Seeing him after all this time, your old best friend, the person you didn't want to live without but had to, it felt surreal.
He smiles softly at you and you can't deny how relieved you feel.
“I wouldn't miss it.” you reply. “It's been a while.”
He nods, grimacing slightly as a slight blush spreads across his cheeks.
You use this moment to take in how different he is. Maturity seems to roll off him in waves, not to mention his physique. Muscles that bulge beneath the fabric of his shirt, his sleeves rolled up to reveal impressive forearms and an intricate tattoo on one of his arms.
He's more handsome than you could have ever imagined, but still with that boyish charm.
“Listen, about that,” he starts, “I’m sorry for how I behaved before, I feel like I should explain. Will you give me a moment?”
You nod, and he leads you to a spot under a tree away from prying eyes and ears.
You watch him, waiting to hear what he will say.
“I would have told you this sooner but they told me you were with someone and happy, and the last thing I would ever want to do is ruin that.”
“Ok…?” Is the only word you're capable of, not sure where this conversation is about to go.
“And since I heard about your breakup-sorry about that by the way-I felt I needed to explain myself.”
“Why couldn't you have told me back then? Before cutting me out of your life?” Your words came out harsher than you meant them, but you couldn't help the hurt you still felt after these last few years. You still felt incomplete without him; there was a part deep inside you that yearned for him in a way that constricted your heart, as if he held it in the palm of his hand. Seeing him after all this time only made it clearer how much he meant to you.
“I know, I should have, and it's my biggest regret. In all honesty, when I found out about you and Jimin I was…jealous, I couldn't think straight and that was the problem-”
“Wait, hold on,” you interrupt, “you were jealous of what? I'm confused.”
He scrapes a hand through his hair, and you note how effortlessly it bounces back, “I was jealous of Jimin.” He admits and sighs, “You were the one that got away.
How could you have gone through all those years of friendship and never noticed?
“I don't understand…” you start, trying to make sense of it all in your brain, “we dated…and you broke it off.”
“I was scared. We were young, and I didn't know what to do with the feelings I had for you.” He steps towards you, reaching out but waiting for permission. You take his hand and let him pull you closer to him.
“That first kiss was everything to me, but I wasn't mentally equipped to deal with it then.” he continues, staring so intently into your eyes it felt like he was seeing every part of you for the first time…or maybe it’s the other way around.
“But I am now.”
The thought of you starting again had your heart hammering wildly, your mind racing with what if's but you felt something you hadn't in a long time…excitement.
“At any point do you think you'll let me take you out on a date…dinner, drinks, anything?”
You lean on your tiptoes and plant a soft, tender kiss against his lips. He stares at you, dazed for a moment before shaking his head and pulling you against him, deepening the kiss. His lips explore yours eagerly and your hands grab his shirt to keep him close. All your pent up emotions from over the years poured into this sensual and yet, sweet kiss. When you break apart you're both panting, foreheads touching, refusing to part.
“How about we start with a dance?” you suggesting, grinning.
“If you think you can keep up.” He beams, pulling you back towards the wedding party and the dance floor.
You move past him, taking charge and pulling him along, “Oh, Kookie, you must be mistaken…I'm not sure you can keep up with me.” You glance behind you with a suggestive wink that has him biting his lip in response.
You don't know what's in store for the two of you, but you would make sure to enjoy every moment with him.

As you pass through the rows upon rows of books, you can't help but feel a tingle of excitement as you read "Adventure". You always loved adventure stories growing up, and you were actually on your own adventure right now.
Of all of the genres, your brain ran rampant at the thought of what awaited you. Pirates on the high sea? Lost in a jungle, looking for treasure? Climbing a mountain to get to the peak?
You smile as you go to grab a thick novel but then a small, thin book falls to the floor in front of you. Frowning you pick it up, accidentally letting it fall open in your hands.
"Oh fu-"
Sunlight warmed your skin as you sit up, rubbing at your eyes. The smell of grass and springtime assailed your senses. All around you was fields of grain, and other random vegetables and fruits.
You inhale the fresh air, standing up and dusting off your clothing. You'd woken up beside a dirt road, and you finally spot a small village in the distance. As you take a step, suddenly a small screen appears in front of you.
"What the..." you mutter, focusing on it. It was a small screen, much like you'd see in a video game. But this was a book? The words on it read:
Objective-Speak to the villagers.
That was it. Nothing else. Shrugging, you sigh, trudging towards the tiny houses.
After what seems like longer than it should have been, you approach the people there. As you draw closer, you notice they are about a foot shorter than you and they were busy hustling around, with small wagons, or baskets of food items.
Approaching, some stop and stare at you, hesitant. You put your hands up at their wary eyes and smile. "Good afternoon...I um....seem to be lost and I was wondering if you could help direct me....?" you start, not exactly sure what else to say. The quest wasn't giving you many details.
An older woman, by the looks of her greying hair and wrinkled eyes as she smiled, approaches you. "Where ye be headin, pretty lady?" she asks, hefting her basket up against her hip as she studies you.
"I am unsure, but I've been traveling for awhile now and I was wondering..." you think momentarily, and then inspiration strikes. "I am just passing through and was looking for food and shelter...but I have no coin. Would there be any jobs that need to be done to receive either payment or a warm bed and food for the night?"
You'd played countless games so you decided to treat this like one, given the whole quest screen thing. This could be exciting, maybe you needed to slay a dragon or rescue a princess!
The small woman eyes you, seeming to decide you were harmless then nods, spitting to the side. "There be a task, for sure. Mayhap you could earn your stay."
Smiling, you thank her and then your quest screen pops up once more.
Objective-Speak to the Villagers COMPLETE!
New Objective-Accept the quest.
Following the woman to what looks to be an inn or tavern of sorts, you are guided to a small wrinkled man behind the counter.
"She be wantin to stay this eve...and take on some work for her keep." she nods at him, and he grunts, clearing his throat. He studies you much the same as the woman, taking in your appearance.
"I won't be askin ye how ye got here, but if yer willin to help with our...neighbor....I can give ye a warm bed and some stew to warm yer belly."
"Ok, you just let me know where to go and I'll go do what needs to be done!" you say enthusiastically. The man just nods, pulling out a piece of parchment.
"This 'ere be the map to the cave o'er the hill to the west. Could ye go chase off the beast that done took up livin there for us?" he asks and you look over the map as you take it from him.
"A beast? Do you know what kind of beast?" you frown down at it. It's a very crudely drawn picture, mostly with an arrow pointing to the left and a circle around where he wanted you to go. This is like a children's drawing, you think, sighing.
"He be huge, hulkin'! He done skerred off our game and lurks in the shadows!" he says, his eyes darting around. Excited you nod at his description. I'll just have to get some kind of weapon and go for it! you think, smiling.
"I'll do it!" you say and set out of the tavern, deciding to see what the distance was for this map. You could walk over the hill and see if you could even see the cave from a distance.
Objective- Accept the quest COMPLETE!
New Objective- Deal with the beast to bring peace back to the villagers
What you hadn't expected was to walk about 20 minutes up the hill, to crest it and see the cave about 100 meters in front of you. What the actual.....
Shaking your head, you trudge forward, slowly wondering if this was even going to be hard. You could just drive whatever creature it was off with the stick you'd grabbed along the way.
Finally reaching the cave, you are shocked to see the remnants of a fire pit, along with some makeshift tools fashioned out of wood and rock.
Venturing into the dark cave, you see it's not large at all. Nor is it empty. You take in the crude bed with hay and some rough fabric, a badly built chair that was broken and a few....books?
What in the world was going on? you think before you hear a crunch behind you. Spinning around with your stick at the ready, you are completely unprepared for the sight in front of you.
Instead of a large hulking beast you are faced with....
Well he was definitely large. Maybe even hulking.....
Your eyes scan the giant man...yes he was a man. He was shirtless and wet, eyeing you warily as he sets down his pail and the pieces of wood under his arm. Running his hand through his hair, he gives you a moment to take in his form.
He was tall and lean, but very...very fit. His thighs were hugged by some kind of leather, his stomach flat and you kept having to force yourself from following that line all the way down...
Clearing your throat, you shake some sense into yourself. Finally focusing on his face, you relax a bit. He had beautiful brown eyes, dark hair and his frown produced a dimple on his cheek as he studied you in turn.
This man was gorgeous, you think then he speaks finally. You weren't prepared for the deep richness of his voice as he says, "Are you hungry?"
"So they sent you to chase me off." he says, frowning. You nod, sighing. This wasn't the adventure you'd been hoping for. Just a big man scaring the smaller townfolk because...as you learned through talking to him....he was shy. Mingi, he'd said his name was.
He kept blushing as he glanced at you, his cute laugh making you want to cuddle him. He explained that the villagers scared him with their torches and screaming when he'd tried to approach them.
"I guess that's fine, I can just go find another place. It's not like this is exactly...." he says, waving around, ducking his head again.
"I feel bad...why don't you just go talk to them? Maybe I can help?" you say, laying a hand on his arm. His head shoots up at the contact, his eyes flashing momentarily. Then his dimples pokes out again when he smiles at you brightly.
"You'd do that for me?" he asks and you can't help but smile back, his sweetness so adorable. "Sure. I don't see why not? But it is getting dark...maybe I can come back in the morning and we can go talk to them together?" you say, rubbing his arm lightly.
You feel his skin prickle as he bites his lip, his head tilting, glancing at the setting sun. "Could you...would you....stay with me tonight? I...am...lonely..." he says, a small pout forming on his lips.
Was he...flirting? You couldn't actually tell, given his seemingly innocent demeanor so far. You didn't see how it could hurt to keep him comfortable....just for tonight....
"I can stay, if you'd like." you say, as he grasps your hand, his excited reaction making you have to bite back laughter. He was just so cute.
After a warm meal and helping him clean up, he directs you towards the cave. You rub your arms as a chill makes you shiver. "Oh..." you murmur, looking at the bed. He comes up behind you and you can't help but be affected by his nearness, his natural scent intoxicating.
His low voice hums as he moves around you, adjusting the bed. He slips in, then looks up at you. Realizing he wants you to get in with him, you blink.
"Aren't you cold? I'm sure....I can....keep you warm...." he says, smiling. Without a second thought, you crawl in with him. His big arms immediately pull you into him, engulfing you and pressing you against his chest. Oh hell yeah.
You are reminded of his naked chest from earlier and you feel your body react. Suddenly you're looking up into the face of this beautiful man, the innocence you'd seen in his eyes earlier replaced with curiosity mixed with what could only be desire.
"You...smell really nice..." you say, feeling heat creep up your neck. He brings his head down to your neck and inhales, causing you to stiffen up. "You smell good enough to taste..." he whispers then his tongue is on your skin, licking a trail up your neck.
Gasping, you grip his broad shoulders. This wasn't the adventure you'd expected but fuck if you weren't going to indulge while you were here. This man was luscious and you were too horny to care about your objective at this moment.
"Mingi..." you sigh, and then suddenly he's on top of you, his huge form hovering above you. "I love when you say my name..." he moans, settling his hips between your legs, his thick thighs pushing yours apart. "I need you..." he groans out, and you can feel his thick length proving that need as he grinds himself against you.
"Please-" you whimper, feeling your panties soak through at his low noises. He leans up and tugs your pants down, discarding them. You pull at the strings on his as well, and he removes them quickly, settling back between your legs. The weight of his huge cock on your mound causes you to mewl out, suddenly wondering if you were going to be able to take him.
"Mingi..." you moan again, as his length slides against you, your slickness as he rubs against your clit making you arch up. His large body covers yours as he grabs you behind one of your knees, pressing your leg up and to the side.
"I'm going to show you what kind of beast I really am...." he growls into your ear as he rams his enormous girth into your eager pussy, stretching you painfully. You scream out as he sheathes himself completely, the sting of pain and pleasure mixing to make you dizzy.
He doesn't even hesitate before he's grasping both of your wrists, yanking them over your head, holding you down. "You're all mine now, and I'm going to fuck you until you can't even think anymore..." he murmurs, his hips thrusting in and out of you at a steady pace. It's not long before you feel the build of your first peak, taking you by surprise as your body trembles beneath his.
The weight of him holds you down, actually drawing out the high at the feeling of helplessness. "Fuck yeah, baby, just like that. Scream for me...." he's groaning, the slap of his balls against the wetness seeping out of you causing him to bite his lip and rut into you even harder. He holds himself up to look down, so he can see his large cock burying itself into your tiny hole.
"Such a pretty pink little pussy," he's panting, then he yanks your top up, his lips encircling your sensitive nipple, grinding his hips down into you. The pressure has your legs shaking again, another coil about to burst in your abdomen.
"Mingi! FUCK!" you scream, your aching walls clamping down on him. If he wasn't so heavy and his weight was holding him into you, the force would have ejected him. You watch his jaw clench when you can keep your eyes from squeezing shut, enjoying his reaction to your noises and body.
"Going to make you cum all night around my dick." he states, huffing and beginning to sweat. He pulls out of you, the feeling of sudden emptiness eliciting a cry from you. But then he's lifting you as if you weigh nothing, turning over to seat you on top of him, facing away.
"You want more of this cock?" he asks, seating you so his thickness is rubbing against your slit, slapping it against you. "PLEASE!" you moan out. He chuckles into your ear, one of his hands cupping the weight of your breast, his fingers pinching and pulling.
"Beg me..." he murmurs and you can't help but sob his name, crying out for him. "Fuck me, oh my god...please...I want you to tear me in two with your big fat cock!" you whine. "Mmm that's what I like to hear..." he groans, leaning you back so he can guide himself into you.
As he forces his way deep into you again, he grabs your arms and holds them behind you with one hand, his other slaps your sensitive clit, making it sting.
"Cum on me, do it." he growls as you whimper and bounce on him, the sense of being torn apart never felt so good to you. His long fingers slap against your nub once more, but then he's pinching and pressing on it, ripping yet another orgasm from you.
"Oh my god....how long....can ..you...last-" you gasp out, almost collapsing from the countless times you've cum tonight. "Mmm, do you want me to fill you up, baby? I can fuck you forever if you'd like...." you plead with him, tears falling down your face. Your poor body overused and shaking from overstimulation.
"One more..... this time- cum with me while -I fill- you up.....going- to make you- burst from the amount of- cum I have for you..." he's moaning, his mouth on your neck. His grunts start to pick up as you bounce faster, his hand letting your arms go to grip your hips.
Your head falls back against him as he sucks on your nape, leaving a mark as you start to feel yourself quaking. He murmurs incoherent pleased noises as you clench around him yet again, but this time he grits his jaw, a gutteral noise coming from his throat as he pulls you down one last time, and you can feel his thighs tremble beneath you.
"God yes, fill my pussy! Fill me up until I can't take anymore!" you're screaming, his hand dipping between your legs to rub you where you both meet. You cry out yet again as he lifts you briefly to pull you back down, his thick fluid seeping out from the motion. "Fuck yeah...." he moans, repeating the motion one more time, the sticky mess coating you both.
His hand goes to your mouth, his fingers forcing themselves into your mouth. You can't help but suck the mixture of the both of you off of him, reveling in the bitter salty taste. "Fuck I hate letting you go again..." he murmurs and you frown, too dazed and exhausted to say anything. The last thing you remember is him cooing at you, laying you down with him as you drift off to sleep.
Waking in the morning, everything seems like a dream. Minus the soreness between your legs. It seemed that he'd bathed you with something while you slept, as you were clean and reclothed. You rub at the nape of your neck, realizing that your whole body was aching.
Worth it, you think, taking in the form of the big man as he comes to tell you he's ready to go meet the villagers.
Finally setting out on the very short trip back to town (grumbling under your breath about the lack of actual adventure), you turn to Mingi on the outskirts.
"It's probably best if I go speak with them first to explain, then we can go from there. How does that sound?" you ask, looking up at the large man. He just smiles at you brightly with his cute dimples, giving you a nod.
Sighing, you turn to go talk to the villager who gave you the quest in the tavern. The switch from the animalistic beast last night to the adorable innocence and happy puppy dog personality has you rubbing your head. Who the fuck wrote this 'adventure'? you think, grumpily. Minus the sex, it was horribly boring.
Walking into the town, you notice the villagers gathered to greet you. A few are wringing their hands, worry on their faces that turns to relief as they see you approach them.
"We thought ye'd done got ate up!" one of them calls and the rest murmur their agreement. The tavern keeper pushes through and you look down at him. Clearing your throat, you address him and everyone around.
"I did meet the ... creature you all sent me to handle. He is indeed very large." Mutters of agreement and gasps escape the crowd. "How did ye survive?!" they ask and you put up your hands.
"This so called 'beast' is just a tall human man who was just too afraid to come to your village to speak with you all. He thought he would be fine where he was, but I explained to him the issues it was causing." you explain.
"How do you know he tells the truth!?" a voice calls out, echoed by others nearby. Sighing, you smile and gesture to yourself. "I spent an evening with him, and we shared a meal. I am in one piece and was not ravaged by him." you say, doing your best to hold back the snicker that threatened to escape you at that particular comment.
"Tis true, she do be livin." they all whisper amongst themselves. "Listen....I have spoken with him and he has expressed his desire to speak with all of you on his own, and explain himself. Perhaps you all could reach an agreement for him to live there and he could help you all around the village?" You're met with some shocked looks from some of the more wary people, but others are pondering the idea.
The tavern keeper walks forward and eyes you up and down. "Does ye trust this beas- this human?" he asks, squinting at you. "As much as I can trust someone I only met for one night, yes. He seems genuine and I believe he's not here to cause any harm. He's quite shy." You say, motioning to the outskirts of town where he waited.
"I've brought him here to speak with you all, if you'll allow it. But he's agreed to leave if you are uncomfortable with it." you explain before they can all freak out.
"I mean...he came all this way..." someone says, then others are nodding, while others are reluctantly kicking the ground expressing their doubts. "I'll go meet him!" a small woman says, coming forward.
"Momma!" the tavern keep says, pulling on the older woman's arm but she shoos him away. "Big fraidy, you all are. He wants to help, I say we talk to him." "Thank you," you smile at the woman and she just gestures you on to go meet him.
"His name is Mingi," you tell her as you both approach. You definitely don't fail to notice the entourage following behind as you both go to greet him.
As Mingi watches you approach, he ducks his head a bit, holding onto the little bucket hat he'd brought with him. "So ye be the so called "beast", Mingi?" the woman says, walking right up to him. She stood about as tall as his hip.
He looks down at her shyly, and nods briefly. "I'm sorry for causing any issues." he says quietly and she just throws back her head and lets out a loud guffaw.
Smacking him on his rearend, she grabs his hand and drags him with her to meet the others. "No need for 'pologies her, mister Mingi! My you're a big boy, I bet we 'ave lots o work for the likes of ye...." you laugh as he looks back at you, shocked as he's forced into the crowd of little people.
Once the greeting was over, and Mingi seemed like he was finally warming up to all of them, the tavern keep comes to speak with you.
"Well, it wasn't what I sent ye for but you done did deal with the issue. Looks like we got ourselves a new townsfolk. Thanks to ye." he nods. "That bed and meal are still yers for the takin'." he says, patting your arm as he walks away.
"Seriously?" you sigh out. "This easy mode shit is what I get for my adventure?" you kick at the dirt path, but then let your gaze wander over the gorgeous man you'd spent the night with.
Well...you'll take it, you think. Suddenly the quest screen pops up and you clap.
Objective- Deal with the beast to bring peace back to the villagers-Quest Complete!
"Yay! Quest complete!" you cry, drawing Mingi's attention as you reach out to let the key fall into your hand.
Momentarily before things go black, you hear, "NO! DAMN YOU HWA AND YOUR STUPID GAME TUTORIAL BOOK-"
You open your eyes to the familiar dim light and the rows of books. What a weird story for adventure, you think. You turn around to the sound of a cat yowling softly, slowly slinking away with it's odd, sad noises.
This place was so strange.
You open your small box and notice there are six slots. Sliding the key into one of them, you shut it and look around.
Smiling as you think upon your 'adventure', you touch the mark on the back of your neck, oddly the only part of you still sore before you make your way onwards.

Authors notes: This is for the @lapydiaries annual winter event, I used the prompt: "New year's kiss...with a fist"
“Please, for the love of all things good and festive,” your colleague and best friend Lisa starts, spinning unsteadily around on her bar stool to face you, “I cannot deal with another year of listening to you pine over Jackson Wang.”
You almost choke on your drink with the volume of her words, looking around in a panic. Luckily everyone was far too busy preparing for the new year's countdown to take notice of your conversation.
“Jesus, keep your voice down.” you say, attempting to put your hand over her mouth before she swats you away.
“No,” her words slur slightly from the drinks that have been flowing fast most of the night, “I’m sick of it.”
She grabs both your shoulders and turns you to face her. “If you don't go and tell him tonight, so help me, I will.”
Your breath catches at her words. The thrum of your heart hammering into overdrive, vibrates through you. You know she means it by the fierce determination in her eyes.
“Put on your big girl boots and speak your truth, woo!” She yells out, arms in the air and spinning around on her stool. She focuses her attention back on you, “Grab this year by the balls and make it yours. Use the countdown!”
Trying to make sense of her words, a frown furrows your brow, “what do you mean?”
“When the clock strikes midnight, what happens?”
You look around at the drinks flowing, your colleagues chatting excitedly and people on the dance floor swaying close together. “People cheer?”
She rolls her eyes so hard she almost slips off her seat. “People kiss! They kiss!”
Realisation hits you like a truck as you finally understand what she's implying.
Ten!
The countdown begins, snapping you out of the conversation.
Nine!
The chants ring out around you, almost deafening you as you survey your colleagues, wrapped up in their excitement.
Eight!
When you turn back to Lisa, she's sliding herself off of the stool.
Seven!
“Where are you going?” you ask.
Six!
“To find someone to kiss!” She calls out, walking off with a drink in hand.
Five!
You watch her sashay away across the dancefloor before she disappears into the crowd.
Four!
Your eyes fall back to your half empty drink as you mull over her words.
Three!
The sounds around you fade into the distance, as you down it with one swig.
Two!
Slamming your glass on the bar and with determination deep in your gut, you turn, flicking your hair off your shoulder as you do so.
One!
Your hand connects hard against something. Snatching it back and spinning on your heels, searching your surroundings, your heart plummets when you find yourself staring into the eyes of none other than Jackson Wang.
He clutches his nose as blood drips onto his blazer.
“Oh my god,” you start, completely horrified. “I'm so, so sorry.” You yell over the excited cheering erupting around you, no one else even noticing the scene you've caused.
Looking back at the bar, you lean across the wooden counter rather ungracefully and grab a fistful of serviettes.
“Here.” You practically shove the tissues at him out of sheer embarrassment and watch as he tries to clean up.
Wiping at his nose and hands he looks back at you, smiling, “How does it look?” He asks.
There’s blood stains under his nose, chin and chest, and all you can do is blink, until his brow furrows, his expression pained as he reads your face.
“Let me help you,” you say, almost pleading with him as you point to the restrooms. He nods, covering his nose with tissues once more and follows you out.
Checking the bathroom locks as you go, you find one that's free and hold the door open for him. You take a deep breath as you follow behind, an attempt to calm your erratically pounding heart, and lock the door.
Your ears ring as soon as you enter, shutting out all the noise of your colleagues singing “Auld Lang Syne” at the top of their lungs.
Your gaze meets his briefly and you awkwardly busy yourself, grabbing some tissues and turning on the hot water tap. He slides himself up onto the counter adjacent to the sink.
Painfully aware of his stare on you, you find yourself apologising again, “Jackson, I'm so so sorry. I-”
“I know, it was an accident, don't worry about it y/n.” He chuckles unexpectedly, making you smile in return. “I've had worse.”
You glance at him nervously, any courage you had to confess to him well and truly died when your hand connected to his face.
Dabbing the tissue under the warm water, you close the distance between you.
“May I?”
He nods, moving the bloodied tissues away and opening his legs slightly to give you easier access.
Gulping, you step in-between his limbs, trying not to let your eyes hover at the impressive muscles you can see outlined in his trousers and focus on the task at hand. Not that it was any easier. You've never been this close to his face before. The man is the definition of beauty, of which you begin to get lost in at this close proximity, until he stuns you with a breathtaking smile, even covered with blood. Shaking your head to snap yourself out of your trance, you begin gently wiping at the red smudges staining his face. The metallic smell hits you, but you ignore the way your stomach lurches.
“Well, this isn't exactly how I pictured my New Year's Eve going.” he jokes, making you grimace.
“I'm so sorry about that, I really am.”
He puts his hands up, “I know, don't worry, you don't have to apologise anymore.”
You sigh, “if it helps, this was not the way I pictured my night ending either.”
He raises an eyebrow at that, “oh?”
The idea of thinking about him for another year, torturing yourself into believing he might want you too, exhausts you. And suddenly you need to change that.
“My plan was to kiss someone at midnight. Someone I've liked for a while.”
Sitting up a little straighter, he watches your face intently, “and my face got in the way of that, now it's my turn to be sorry.”
You can't help but laugh at his silliness.
“Funnily enough, that was my plan also.” He adds.
Instantly, you stiffen. Oh god, you couldn't tell him now, knowing he has a crush on someone from the office. “Anyone I know?”
The words come out of your mouth before you can stop them, but you're desperate to be put out of your misery. You'd bet it's Rose, everyone has a crush on her, with her confidence and natural charisma. Or maybe it's Mina, they both seem to really get along, then again, he gets along with everyone, the perfect social butterfly.
“Yes, actually, you're quite close with her.”
Your mouth pops open, that could only mean one person and this you did not see coming. “Lisa!? I did not think she would be your type. I don't think she's seeing anyone, if you wanted me to I could-”
“No,” he cuts you off and you're thankful. The words coming out of your mouth did not seem like your own.
“It’s not Lisa.”
A frown creases your brow as you chuck the bloody tissues in the bin, you're not close to anyone else here. Your mind races with names and faces as if flipping through a mental filofax.
He reaches up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind your ear and your heart feels like it stops, frozen in this moment. Every little noise is magnified as you watch the way his eyes soften before falling to your mouth.
Is this happening? All along he wanted you too!?
As he leans in to close the distance of your lips, an unyielding need rises inside you. Your heart; impatient and no longer able to hide the feelings you've caged inside. Reaching up, you grab the lapels of his blazer and pull him towards you.
In a blur of chaotic actions and emotions, his lips crash into yours, matching your hunger. He tastes divine, better than you've ever imagined and it makes you want more.
He slides himself off the counter, bodies now flush against each other, as your hands eagerly grapple in his hair, keeping him as close as possible. Until an alarmingly loud knock on the bathroom door snaps you back into reality, making you both jump. Lips parted and panting heavily, neither of you can help the giggle that escapes.
“Just to clarify,” he starts, “I was your midnight kiss?”
Your cheeks heat as you nod, looking at his chest. But his finger hooked under your chin, pulls your gaze back to him.
“I've liked you for an embarrassingly long time.” He admits, intense eyes fixated on your face.
You want to laugh, this all seems like some dream you've created in your head but your hands pressed against his chest show you he's very real.
“Same.” You grin back and watch his eyes widen before he beams at you, closing his lips to yours once more. Only briefly before another loud knock cuts into the moment yet again.
“Did you want to come back to my place?” you ask quickly.
He strokes the length of your cheek, “let's go.”
Smiling he grabs your hand and leads you out of the bathroom, past the queue of people that are gathered outside. You ignore their questioning gaze and head to the exit, hand in hand, feeling giddy and excited by what the rest of your night had in store.
Catching sight of Lisa still partying, she meets your eyes and you can't help but wink. The resounding cheer that she releases, echoing through the room has you and Jackson laughing, as you grab your coats and walk out of the building, into the cold night air.
It’s a new year and you are going to grab it and make it yours, taking every wanted opportunity that comes your way…starting with Jackson Wang.
