To Be Expected
Genre : heavy angst, heartbreak
pairing : Rin Kagamine & Miku Hatsune
Rin twiddled with the pink colored letter in her hand, nervously biting her fingernails as she stared at the girl across the hallway; She had long turquoise twin tails that almost hit the ground and eyes that were the same beautiful color. Everyone knew who she was; Hatsune Miku, of course. Every boy’s teen crush and every girl’s role model; She was beautiful, average height, intelligent, and not to mention filthy rich. Her parents were the wealthiest people in Japan, their estimated net worth was around 600 million dollars, possibly even more. It was no wonder everyone adored Hatsune Miku, and young Rin Kagamine was no exception; It didn’t take long for her to fall for Miku. As soon as Rin saw her walk into class and introduce herself to everybody, she was head over heels for her; Her voice, her appearance, everything about her. They’ve only ever spoken a couple times, but they aren’t friends, more like acquaintances. Despite their lack of any type of relationship, Rin was getting ready to confess her feelings to Miku, hoping she’d at least give her a chance. As she was mentally preparing herself to walk over there and tell the girl how she’s been feeling, Rin began to doubt herself; Why would someone like Miku go out with me? There’s dozens of others who she’d probably want to date instead. I’m not special. she thought in her head. Rin was the total opposite of Miku; she wasn’t that wealthy, but she wasn’t totally poor. She wasn’t beautiful in the eyes of other people, but she definitely wasn’t ugly. She never really paid much attention in class and only got decent grades, enough to graduate next year anyway, so why would a perfect girl like Miku want with Rin? To make her feel better, maybe. She’d probably pity her. What would Rin do if the girl of her dreams were to reject her? Feel disappointed in herself, maybe? Cry? Never show her face at school again? All of those, maybe. “Ah, screw it, I’m gonna do it.” She muttered to herself and took a deep breath, gripping the letter in her hands as she approached the female, who was speaking with two other female students about whatever, Rin stopped a few feet away when she noticed the other girls, hoping they would leave so she could speak with Miku. Eventually, they did, only ten minutes later. Rin was leaning against a random locker when she saw them leave. Finally. She said to herself mentally before approaching Miku nervously, starting to tremble as she got closer. Miku noticed Rin’s presence and smiled at her. “Oh, hello, Rin! How are y-” Before Miku could finish her words, Rin held out the bright pink letter that would stand out in any pile of plain while envelopes. “This is..for you..” Rin stated quietly and waited for her to take it. “Oh?” Miku kept that same smile as she took the letter from the smaller girl, inspecting it before opening it and taking out the piece of paper inside and reading the writing on it. Miku’s eyes would go from looking at the letter to Rin for awhile when she finished reading it, a look of shock on her face. Suddenly, she began snickering, and that snickering turned into full blown laughter. Rin’s face blushed a deep red, “What’s so funny??” Her small voice trembled and she stuttered, that darned feeling of embarrassment was crawling up on her. “I didn’t mean to laugh..It’s just..” Miku stopped and looked at the letter again, her face indicating that she was about to start laughing again. “I’m sorry, Rin.” Once the words ‘I’m Sorry’ left her lips, Rin’s heart broke into two, completely shattered and most likely couldn’t be fixed, “..I just don’t see you in that way. I mean, we barely even know each other. We’ve only spoken...what, four or five times? And we only spoke then because we either had to or we coincidentally bumped into each other. And, besides, I’m seeing someone already.” Well there you go, Rin was completely heartbroken, nothing could fix her broken soul at this point. “I..I see.” “Mhm.” Miku didn’t have a face of pity or anything, she looked like she didn’t care. “Well, see you later.” Were the last words Miku said to Rin before walking away with her books in hand, leaving a broken Rin behind to deal with the pain she had brought to her.
After that, Rin didn’t show up to school for many days, since after Miku informed her friends of what happened that day, the word spread and kids began picking fun at Rin and making fun of her for having a crush. She was reported absent and never showed up again.
