armingelion:
Armin looks at Jean like he doesn’t know what to make of him. It isn’t every day that neighbors turn up at his door asking how he’s been. The people around him are more or less friendly, but he doesn’t know any of them like that. Jean’s no different. Just an acquaintance who occasionally dropped by with a noise complaint. Come to think of it, he hasn’t done that for a while now. One month, three days. Another painful squeeze from beneath Armin’s ribs.
“I’m–” Terrible. Horrible. Did you know having your heart broken actually physically hurts? Because I didn’t. “–fine. And yourself..?”
He’s trying to be subtle about the fact that he’s looking Jean over with an air of scrutiny when he feels something glide between his ankles and glances down in time to see his big, orange tom cat come sauntering out of his apartment. Straight to Jean. It weaves around his neighbor’s legs, and Armin’s taken aback. Archimedes is never this friendly.
“Ah– sorry. He doesn’t normally take to people like that. You’re not allergic, are you?”
Jean shifts his weight from his left foot to his right, trying to seem casual. He’s unsure as to what to do with his hands, so he stuffs them in his jean pockets. “Oh that’s-” Awful. He can see pain clearly displayed in the blonde's delicate facial features. Jean wants to reach out and hug him, which is a new and strange instinct for him to have. There aren’t many people Jean wants to touch let alone hug. “Good. Yeah, I’m good.”
He feels a pressure on the inside of his leg and jumps a little at the sensation. “Ah, o-oh” he says looking down. A very large orange cat with a pushed in face is rubbing its chin on Jeans shoes. Never really having been one for cats he hesitantly reaches down to scratch between it’s ears, hoping that’s the right thing to do. The fur is soft, yet seems to crunch in places. “What kind of, uh... cat?” he scrunches his nose getting a closer look at the bug-eyed furball. There’s a spot of drool on his shoe where the animal was rubbing it’s face. “Like what breed is he?”
