It shouldn’t besurprising, really. As much as he’d been cut off from the
outsideworld for a couple years now, he knew that society had been
changingand growing as a dizzying pace. Plus, influences, news, tended
to leak in, regardless of if they wanted it to or not. Johnhad never admitted
such out loud, much less in front of his siblings, but he was a little…uncertain
about this. Doesshe possess a soul? The drive to sin? To be righteous?
That’s what madehim all the more willing to pull her apart, listen to her
thoughts, listen to her talk. Make her confess as he’s done tocountless
sinners before her. Joseph told him that she was special, that she would
expand his flock, but John wanted to know whyshe was. Having her standing
in front of him was certainly convincingenough—without bring privy to previous
knowledge, he would havebeen convinced that she was just another lost soul.
Maybe she justwas.
She held herself ina way that was interesting to him. No tears, no
pleading, no running. In body language alone, she would be hard to read,
but therewas…something. John had remained rather impassive himself as
he had looked her over from a couple steps away. Though, as if he had
snapped back to the situation at hand, a grin crossed his features, arms
opening as if he was going to embrace her.
Instead, he simplyreached to touch her shoulders, the gesture usually
inviting. Yet,from him, it didn’t always hit that mark.
“As The Fatherhas told me, and for the reason he’s sent you here, you’re
ready toconfess?”
eyelids flutter at the embrace, doesn't flinch yet is —— unnerved by it. feigned submission to his grace, she was no scrub to survival. she told robots how to do it daily. practice is different than theory, however. she holds her own. eyes never leave his, almost as if she's searching for something inside of them. a hint of resolve, a crack in the iceberg. makes no mistake of disrespecting him, watched as the man who'd said no ended up on the ground, pistol whipped into saying yes.
forces a broken voice from her being, for once she's grateful for her lack of infliction when she speaks. her affirmation cracks in the middle, she had not spoken in a while, throat unsure how to form whole words in her normal voice. ❛ yes, i am here to confess for my sins. ❜ she could ( and would ! ) splay her deepest secrets here, her fears only fretted upon in the privacy of her bed, 3am secrets between her and the moon —— and god, wherever he may be. surely, her pride would suffer for her survival.
❛ i —— have played GOD. i have created ... a mockery of humanity. they walk, they talk, they FEEL ... as if they are human. but i have —— cut them open. and they are hollow. no heart, no lungs. MACHINERY. ❜ THE DISGRACE. the almost perfect attempt ( depending on who you'd ask, ) at creating LIFE. a better life, a PERFECT LIFE. a life she wanted. a life she DESERVED. no matter of money, it was the idea she was in love with. infatuated. she conveys her regret, her disappointment, her SADNESS to him as she looks up at him, head now bowed.
the eyes, chico. they never lie. and she's telling him the truth, digging deep for her confession. this she would never speak of again, she promises herself. promises herself she would leave her confession RIGHT HERE in front of the baptist. and she will not care about it anymore. she prepares herself for her punishment, she prepares her fake atonement. she will do anything, so long as she survives.
