SHIRO’S ARM  /  CANON DEVELOPMENT

As far as my Shiro goes, his arm doesn’t change too much.  Of course, as with any kind of prosthesis, especially one that’s as neurologically integrated as Shiro’s is, it requires maintenance to make sure it’s not straining his body and is up to full functionality.  The only people he trusts enough to do work on his arm are Pidge, Matt, and Hunk, end of discussion.  Because his prosthetic is wired to the remaining nerve endings in his arm, it’s a tricky task re-connecting it, and is often uncomfortable.  It also means it’s an exact science, and if something goes wrong in his arm, it causes Shiro a great deal of pain and his arm won’t function properly.  Over time, of course, his arm becomes more and more altean tech than galra, but the overall shape and design don’t change too much.

CANON BACKGROUND PT. 3

Continuing from this post, Shiro does what he can to help his team, and in time he’s able to pilot the Black Lion again, retaking his mantle as the head of Voltron.  But he’s different, still struggling to process the memories the Komar unlocked of his time as Zarkon’s prisoner.  It doesn’t help that their best ally at this point is Prince Lotor, son of Zarkon.  His personality changes, he’s more irritable and withdrawn from his teammates at times, and some moments acts like an entirely different person, desperately seeking something he can control, something he can lead successfully.  But he only seems to be making things worse, only seems to be causing rift after rift in the team.  The only positive that Shiro can see is that Lance is stepping up as the Red Paladin when Shiro needs him the most.  He can’t help but lean more and more on him, subconsciously drawn to the sense of security that Lance’s maturity and belief provides him.  Lance can’t replace Keith, no one can, but he doesn’t need to, and Shiro wishes he could communicate that better.
