“That’s why we gotta join the Horde. Soon as we’re old enough, we’re getting out of here and going somewhere better. Prove we’re more than nothing.” “… I just wonder if the mangoes in the orc city are as good as Mama Zakuli’s.”

Why We Do It - An Introduction
Some people do it for the adventure.
Some people do it for the escape.
Some people do it for the calling they’ve had all their lives.
Some do it for all three.
Those of us who fall in the cracks try to make due. We sacrifice time with our loved ones for something that gets our blood pumping faster.
We leave behind the comfortable life for the unpredictability and beauty of the sea.
We understand, at a different level than we have before, that there is a different set of people who need us.
“I never said I wanted to be dedicated crew, Penelope,” an older, white-and-grey furred worgen murmurs as she works on healing the wounds of a human male, still half frozen from sitting in the cold. Homeless. Without anywhere else to go or be than the church.
“I didn’t think you did,” the younger one responds, her head tilted as she surveyed the work. Dark and light brown made her a little less ideal as a rogue, but the dark leathers and formidable blades helped.
Another world over, there’s a woman who’s trying to find purpose in the silence, even though her happiness lies in the children she’s been watching grow like weeds. She leans against a railing and watches a clumsy little draenei girl stumble over her ever-growing hooves, while chasing a little human boy.
While she has all the love and comfort in the world, including a partner with a heart too big to contain to a single person, she longs for more.
“Then what are you asking me?” Ainsley wondered, tying the tourniquette and feeling the cold man’s cheeks.
“If you’re ready to see things that aren’t inside of these holy walls,” the rogue returned. “Not if you’re wanting to leave them full time.”
It had never been a question before, nor something she questioned. But the years that Ainsley got left behind in Gilneas with one of her closest friends, she had that taste of something new and exciting and dangerous. Survival, and forcing herself to get better and do better to save those who would perish otherwise.
She licked her lips and sat back, watching the man stir some, color returning to him.
“What do you get out of it?” She whispered up at her friend.
Penelope gave a soft grin. “I miss the sea,” she admitted.
The mage, the woman with everything, turns and heads out of the room. She didn’t need the taste of survival, she didn’t have strong feelings about the sea. She just wanted something different. She wanted warmth and cold and culture and life.
