The most important reminder I’ve gotten from Dracula Daily is that media, especially classic literature, can be much more enjoyable when there’s no pressure to get through it as fast as possible.
In high school, I had to squeeze time into my busy homework schedule to skim through chapters and chapters of assigned reading each night. But the only thing I got out of those books was good grades, and that really damaged my relationship with reading for fun.
I’m not a fan of binge watching, but I always feel pressured to get through entire seasons of TV shows the day they’re released just to avoid spoilers or be the first person to post about a particular observation or headcanon.
It makes me sad that the latest trends and fandoms and memes are only relevant for a short time before they’re deemed dead and everyone has moved onto the next big thing that will also lose its sparkle in a span of weeks.
In a society where we’re encouraged to rush through everything, even things that are meant to be fun, it’s nice to have one thing like this to enjoy in small doses over a longer period of time.
The second most important reminder I’ve gotten from Dracula Daily is that Dracula has a mustache.
Bokuto crushing "Tsum-Tsum's" shoulder with one squeeze is my aesthetic🥵🥵

I love this tiny idiot <33 - Lev shift
Everyday we could potentially be one step closer to Timeskip Bokuaka art by Furudate-sensei and the thought of it scares me

There’s something to be said about the way Akaashi’s indulgence in Bokuto’s antics and endearment towards him grew more and more visible throughout the narrative.
Helloow! Can i request manga Bokuto (Haikyuu) wallpapers? I know you already did icons but your wallpapers are always so pretty 🥺

For the love of everything Haikyuu, READ THIS! If this comes across your pages: READ THIS! It's complete! It's action, romance, scifi, plot twists everywhere! Do you love tough, fun -but dark- Bokuto and calculating, beautiful Akaashi like I do? It's got it!
A big Daichi and Kuroo Fan? With some delicious couple arguments that-- BOOM! NO IMMEDIATE RESOLVE because one of them is taken?! [What!?]
Think Kenma deserves bionic eyes so that he can shirk on responsibilities? And have rainbow hair?! I know I do!
So please read this. It's got the drama, the action, near-death experiences, gritty fights -IN SPACE-, romance, everything! The writer worked her ass off and for a VERY long time on it and I'm super proud of her! [And give the rest of her work a read too 😘😗]
MY FRIEND MADE A BEAUTIFUL COVER FOR MY FIC. IT IS AMAZING AND I LOVE IT!
Why do people stop commenting on fics if they’re more than a week or two old? Please comment on old fics. Tell me you like my one shot from 2014. Tell me you like my old multi-chap I finished in 2016 that I spent a year writing. I will be fucking thrilled.
Fics are not social media posts. There’s no “stalking” someone’s “old posts”. They’re meant to be found and enjoyed years down the line. No need to be nervous.
I reblog this message every time it comes across my dash because it’s true. And also:
When I first started writing fanfic, back in the mid 1990s (yes! the late twentieth century!) one of the discouraging things about it was that people treated fanfic as if it was disposable. It seemed like what most readers wanted was a constant stream of new content, whereas I tend to produce one big work every 6-12 months. It made me sad that people seemed to think there was no point to re-reading or saving old fic. There is no sell-by date on fiction! It does not get out of order! It can still work even years or decades later!
So yeah, I have stories up at ao3 that are literally a quarter-century old, and every time someone leaves a comment on them I am very pleased to get it. We get attached to our stories and it cheers us up to see that they are still finding readers. It means that they are still ‘alive,’ in some way.
AO3 is not social media, it’s (essentially) a library.
You’re meant to engage with any and all of it, regardless of age.
This. (And you could make a case that the older the fic on which feedback is received, the more it’s appreciated…)
i am. so sorry if i have ever used the phrase “i have an au where—” and led you to believe that there is an actual fic out there for you to read rather than, at best, a post where i explain the concept, and at worst it is simply something that lives in my brain
if it helps i also wish there was a fic
want to be clear that if i ever talk about a headcanon and then later discuss a headcanon that is directly contradictory to the first one, that’s because headcanons exist in a quantum state where they are all simultaneously true and not true up until the point where i discuss it in detail, in which case that is the one that is true in that instance. schroedinger’s headcanons
The final chapter is posted! Sci-fi!au, 36 chapters, 190k, two years to write. Main ships: KuroDai, BokuAka, and KyouHaba, but there a bunch of other background ships and characters.
Also, space pirates!

When reading fanfic keep in mind that for professional literature:
Short story: under 7,500
Novelette: between 7,500 and 17,500
Novella: between 17,500 and 40,000
Novel: over 40,000
Fics over 40k are literally a novel written and shared for free. If you have written a 40k+ fic, you have literally written a novel.
thinking v hard abt matsuhana the past few days ;____________;;///
if ever you find symbolism in my writing please tell me i’d like to know about it too
Commenting fanfiction is the easiest thing in the world once you start doing it.
I leave a comment on every single fic I read. Sometimes when I read published books I go and leave a comment somewhere the author can find it. Granted, I literally majored in ‘leaving comments on fics’ (English Education), but once you start doing it it just becomes second nature. Now you’re gonna go to the Ozymandias school of leaving comments:
Problem: I can’t leave kudos again.
Beginner: This is a second/third/fourth Kudos
Advanced: This is my second/third/fortieth time reading this, I still love it so much. Here are a few new things I noticed. I like the way you personally do x, y, z compared to other authors I’ve read (in this ship/genre/fandom).
Problem: I don’t know what to say :(
Beginner: Just list what you did to read this fic. “I stayed up late reading this”, “I read this on a crowded train”, “this kept me company while sick”.
Advanced: X,Y,Z parts made me get butterflies, and I had a physical reaction to this part of the story, I squealed outloud when characters did x,y,z. I blushed at this part. I laughed out loud here. Whatever.
Problem: I’m embarrassed to leave a comment (what if I annoy the author?)
Beginner: Short answer: you won’t EVER annoy the author (unless you’re needlessly mean) But to start, be generic, you don’t have to spill your soul in the comments section. “I liked this” “I enjoyed reading this” “nice fic”.
Advanced: This really meant a lot to me that you wrote this. This is something I feel like I’ve always wanted to read. This fic hit me in all the right places. Etc.
Problem: I don’t know how to express myself/my experience
Beginner: My beginners go to is to highlight a line, put that in your comment and say “i liked this” or to identify basic emotions you had while reading and comment those “this made me happy” “this part made me sad” “i almost cried” “you made me laugh” Advanced: “Highlighted line” This line made me smile because it has to do with character development/it’s really romantic/it’s so unique/it’s moving. Sometimes I don’t highlight a line at all, I just talk about the stuff I’ve noticed were unique to the fic. “I love the way you did this particular thing with this character”.
This? This is an amazing post. This is the Captain Awkward of commenting posts—it addresses all your fears directly and gives you actionable scripts for each one.
doing this will make authors / writers love you forever.
