“Did you mean it?”

Keith looked up from where he was twiddling his thumbs. “Mean..?”

“What you said… when you picked me to go home,” Lance glanced at the floor, a clear look of disappointment in his eyes.

Keith sighed, and motioned for Lance to sit next to him. He stared into his eyes as he sat.

“Yes,” Keith started, noticing the slouch in Lance’s shoulders after he said so.

“Oh. I just, I thought maybe we were starting to get closer, you know? I thought we were frie-”

“Lance,” Keith cut him off. “I wouldn’t be able to spend eternity with you if it meant you’d be happier somewhere else.”

Lance looked up, a bit surprised at the explanation. “What do you mean?”

“I know how much you missed your family, and I know how the team has been treating you… including me. I couldn’t bear to spend an eternity with your heart breaking the entire time.”

Lance’s eyes began to water, but he started laughing. “You care about me!” he chuckled, pushing Keith a little.

“You idiot, of course I do,” Keith laughed, pushing him back.

Their laughs calmed down and their hands gravitated towards each other’s. They sat in silence, fingers intertwining, words unspoken but still understood.

Eternity with Lance didn’t sound so bad now that he could choose it.
